If it helps, you can change the sensitivity of the VOX feature by holding down the VOX button for 3 seconds. The display shows L3 or d4.

Have you tried the Retevis MB3? It's got a large number display. Haven't found a review on one yet.

It's a cool little radio with a unique design, but for very similar money, I would choose the Anytone AT-500M2 / Radioddity CB-500 which will give you a lot more radio for the money. 73
