Ya’ll know Kenny Garrett, Branford, and Joshua Redman are still alive right? Kamasi? Chris Potter? Etc. He sounds great. Let’s just say that instead 🤷🏾♂️
During all your solo I was like "😳😳😳 No pentatonic shifting? Is Chad sick? Is he sad? Is he depressed??" Until 6:23 and there I was like "Aaah everything is okay 😁" haha
It is cool the see that he reads the comments and engages with the fans. I’m currently working on this tune and seeing chads take on it is really helpful. Thanks
Man, just listening again as working up for a January gig. Remember you guys doing these when it wasn't so safe to do so. These sessions were a godsend during a very dark time. And, now? Just another tasty chunk of funky Chad somethin' somethin'. Hope you're wailin' and busier than ever! 🌟🙏♥️
Fantastic. I wasn't even going to watch the video...I never really liked the song too much. Wow this is now my favorite version...what an effort. Thanks for sharing.
Very different from other versions but in a super cool way, solos were quite good, plus you can just tell everyone was listening to each other. Awesome!
Man. You are a great musician. I listened you playing a lot. But today I saw your clip. As a double bass beginner player (switched from bass guitar) I put a lot of attention to the posture of playing instruments. I've double-checked on your other videos and find out that you have symmetrical shoulders in life, but I feel pain while I'm looking at you playing. I want to see you happy and healthy in the future, I would have been happy if someone tells me about posture playing guitar at the very beginning.
Sick band. I remember playing a similar arrangement of this tune with you in Ensemble Class at SFCM. the tune sounds good in funky straight 8ths type groove. we were playing it faster like the Michael Jackson version. Sounds killing
Christ, my only question is why do you have so little subscribers?? You are literally one of the greats of today, just like Coltrane, Coleman, Bird, Dolphy were the greats of their time. Thanks for the performance, was a great watch while I ate my waffles.
Seth Johnston haha thanks man I do have almost 200,000 followers across social platforms currently though - I think that’s pretty good for straight ahead jazz in 2020 ;)
@@ChadLefkowitzBrown fact!! Big channels on YT are more there for entertainment purposes, but for real you deserve 1M subs on YT for the INCREDIBLE value you're giving us for FREE. That being said, thank you so much!
I've been working on the section from 6:24 to 6:30. Do you mind sharing what you were thinking on that part? I heard B pent to A pent to Eb- pent and back to G-. Masterful!
How often when you play a “line” is it something you’ve played before or specifically practiced vs you just being able to play the changes and fill in everything in between?
Josh ua i was saying that as an analogy on how its just vocab he uses and being able to change it based on the changes, its safe to assume he has practiced everything
Awesome, so well recorded/produced. Just a ''gear'' question, what is this microphone recording your saxophone? I know it's all about the guy, but I'm just curious... must be a ribbon mike! Anyways, loved it very much...

So true!
The best tenor player today . Keeping the tradition alive.
Daniel Abdelnour FACTS
Daniel Abdelnour nah fam that’s Ben wendel or Chris Potter
Evan Taylor yes sir, Chris potter, mark turner and Seamus Blake are top 3 in my book but chad is really amazing!
@@evantaylor7531 ben wendel?????? he sounds terrible in my opinion, because he's using a wayy to soft reed

Yanaël Lavaly hahaha 😂
Yes, the pentatonic shifting makes for such an interesting "shift" in how things feel. Had to laugh when I saw this comment, though, about sad Chad...
Brecker lick :D
It is cool the see that he reads the comments and engages with the fans. I’m currently working on this tune and seeing chads take on it is really helpful. Thanks
1:58 is the lick Nathan (Saxologic) was learning, if anyone's curious where it was.
Your PDF packages have improved my technique TREMENDOUSLY, thank you🙏
Matthew Dubovik so glad you’re enjoying the material, Matthew!! Happy shedding!

I can't describe how much this guy amazes me everytime I hear him.
Vallentin Lövström Wadell thank you!! That means a lot!
I totally agree with you!
Me too!! But I wish he wouldn't tongue every quarter note, and most eighth notes at medium tempos.
Beautiful rendition - this song is the #GOAT of American Standard songs. Great job!!

This has been my favorite standard the past few weeks! So glad this video exists
Man this is super killin! It’s dope to hear a version that’s not like every other one. This is really cool
Nathaniel Xavier Williford thanks man!! We actually borrowed a groove idea from the Michael Jackson version of this tune (no joke!)
Another interesting version of this is by Baptiste herbin, check it out
Are you kidding?

Rithvik Somayaji thank you!
This is the standard I have to play for my ensemble and not Im lovin this quartet
Well it's not how I would play the tune, even if I could. But, some is great playing here thanks for putting it up.
How often when you play a “line” is it something you’ve played before or specifically practiced vs you just being able to play the changes and fill in everything in between?
How often do you use the word "often" or is it a word that you try to force in every situation possible
criskilla ?? he said often once
criskilla all I can do is laugh dude... and type this comment to let you know that you said it more than I did.
Josh ua i was saying that as an analogy on how its just vocab he uses and being able to change it based on the changes, its safe to assume he has practiced everything
criskilla I guess that makes sense. still tho that analogy is very easily read the wrong way. Thanks though
Awesome, so well recorded/produced. Just a ''gear'' question, what is this microphone recording your saxophone? I know it's all about the guy, but I'm just curious... must be a ribbon mike! Anyways, loved it very much...
great jazz. children of Y. Redman
FONVILLE ON THE DRUMS THO!

1:59 epic chad lick
Is that the born under a bad sign theme inside the song or is that lick part of the original score ?
