I've been hearing this recording at Robert's Western World, on a "break CD". This is a great version, of a classic song! I got to play w Billy Robinson (steel guitarist) a couple times. He was one of the pioneers of Nashville steel, and a very nice guy!
Nobody can have an "original version" of a song that was circulating before they recorded it. If we complained about every song that was done differently than the original, we'd be here forever
It really depends on which version one hears first as to what impression it has on them. Usually, the first version they ever hear is the one that sticks. Also, Anita's version was not meant to be a 'blues version'!
I've heard this song as blues, as folk, and now this version...she's plain haunting and heart ♥ felt!
This beautiful lady has stole my heart
Anita working a blues at age 17. Gee Whiz, she is a transcendent artist.
She is absolutely killer on this tune. Anita sounds so good on those long high wailing notes.
This is another great song by the 17 year old Anita Carter..She's the best!
A gift to us all from heaven. Hope to hear her sing there someday.
Gorgeous
what a great job, my favorite version of this song!
Amazing song!

A fine version of the jazz/blues standard by Country royalty.
Sounds like Chet came and played with her this day.
Yes
The Dark Tower brought me here
As in Stephen King? I didn't know there was a film version.
@@entropyfan5714 yup. The book brought me here. Wizard and glass. There is a film but it was horrible
I was born 1950....
HERES A BIT OF ANITA CARTER TRIVIA YOU MAY BE SURPRISED TO HEAR
ELVIS PRESSLY PROPOSED TO HER, MORE THAN ONCE
He was married, she was from a good family, sorry hank. They shoot off sparks on their duet.
Anyway she wisely did not go there.
William Moore
Was he married to Priscilla then for sure?
I wonder if being in that family Elvis would have lived longer. June Carter would have been a good influence as she was with Johnny.
Elvis wasn't married when the Carter Sisters and Elvis toured together in 1955/1956
Anyone else here because of the Dark Tower books? I didn’t even know this was a real song…
Jerry Byrd on lap steel ?
Sounds like Jerry Byrd
Is the name of this song Careless Love?
What else could it be called?
I'm sorry, but this rendition strips every ounce of soul and feeling from the original blues version done by Bessie Smith.

I don't agree, but Anita was 17 at the time.
This is a completely different genre. Maybe you would enjoy the more bluesy version sung by Odetta?
@@peggymarsheck4926 I just checked out Odetta's version and really loved it. Thanks for recommeding it!
Not as good as Bessie Smith, but OK.
