    Wynton Marsalis and Eric Clapton. Words can't describe.

    According to Lead Belly this song was first sung by Blind Lemon Jefferson "somewhere around 1904". That's Old School!

    I love the old New Orleans slow drive on this.Eric seems happy on stage with Wynton and his band.

      I live near Memphis, but really like New Orleans blues. Wynton is always so gracious and brings out the best of whomever sits in. Yeah, EC looks like he's having a fabulous time.

    Eric Clapton is truly one of the great guitarists of our time. Just so smooth. Wynton Marsalis is also at the top of his game. We only have so few great horn players, but he is easily recognized as one of the great ones. A great listening delight.

      There are countless magnificent horn players right now! Go to London or Birmingham - or any major city in the US of course - on any Friday night and there are many gifted players blowing beautifully.

    Wow, brilliant. That's seriously some of Clapton's best playing ever. I've got the next two days open. Time to study that solo.

      Gibson Blues Right??? Amazing. So unexpected! His voice and guitar in the best form I've ever heard them and I've seen and listened to him a lot!

    • @nickb3250
      @nickb3250 9 лет назад +4

      andrew wheeler I'm just wildly impressed by his ability to fit into Wynton's band and not seem out of place. His style definitely isn't right in line, but he found a way to tone it down and blend in. Can't speak highly enough of Wynton and team either, as they surely had to adjust. Awesome collaboration overall. And now I HAVE to have a sunburst ES335!

    • @jazzgtrplayer
      @jazzgtrplayer 9 лет назад +6

      Gibson Blues I remember an interview where Clapton said he tried to mimic Louis Armstrong's phrasing in his solos. Even though his note choices come more from blues guitarists, the way he plays with the beat and through the bar lines here, you can hear the Louis influence, and how the New Orleans style is a big part of his style.

      +andrew wheeler Very inspired playing. I've seen some of his more recent concerts and they're totally lackluster. He's just going through the motions. Here, you can see him feel it, and it's flowing right out of him.

    • @CompleteCretin
      @CompleteCretin 9 лет назад +8

      +andrew wheeler Hmm, can't agree with "best Clapton solo ever", but yeah I do agree it's very good. This series of concerts was wonderful. His live shows during the 90s just produced so much outstanding material - the top of his career - but unfortunately most don't get to hear it as it's bootlegger material rather than general release.

      I'm pretty sure this is what they call 16 bar form.....based on the Blues of course. Love the rhythmic change in the last 2 bars....And Yes EC's playing is spot on! He only get what the jazzers call "a chorus" 16 bars.....

    • @thebog11
      @thebog11 2 года назад

      It's not a Ray Charles track...sure, he did it, but this tune goes back to the Dixieland days and beyond. To be fair, his rendition is the first that comes up when you search for it on Spotify.

    • @peterhead9981
      @peterhead9981 2 года назад

      @@thebog11 - I appreciate that the song goes way back. Also, it depends on how you interpret 'track'; to me it is a song that someone records, so I stand by what I said two years ago.

      Steven Valiquette Ha, probably true. I've been waiting for a vintage sunbust es335 with stoptail bridge and kluson tuners. Biggest issue with the ones I'm finding from the late 60's is the neck is so damn skinny! Also, a lot of them have grovers, which just don't look right on a Gibson, as far as I'm concerned.

    W.C. Handy, the composer of this tune, became a Christian later in life and wrote music for an album titled "From Blues to Triumph". I've done an arrangement of this with different words...
    words that reflect the change in his life. I'm now in the process of trying to get my arrangement published. So far I've had no success. If you're a Christian, I'd appreciate your prayers asking the Lord to make Mr. Handy's estate allow me to try to publish my arrangement, if it's His will. One additional bit of info, when the commentary attributes this song to someone named "Smth", they're WAY off base! This tune is absolutely by Mr. Handy! Thanks in advance for your prayers!, Kim
