Your layout demonstrates you don't need a large layout to have a nice ops session. Too bad Carl did not live to see another day, he violated so many safety rules it was only a matter of time ;) It is good to see you are having fun operating. I look forward to following your progress. -Tom

@@poorfrank Hi Dustin, thanks for your comments on being an inspiration for your ops sessions with the figure and operating derail. I find it helps to visualize what a real crew would be doing and slows down the session. One prototype note for you, a conductor should not be on the side of a car for a coupling as they can easily fall off. The crew should stop one car length prior to the coupling, and then conductor will dismount and observe the coupling from the ground. If you have any questions on ops you can contact me through my website at www.thomasklimoski.com
Your layout looks great and I am glad you are enjoying operating it.-Tom

Dig a hole right here, mark it with a cross for "my pooch, named Carl, got hit by the train"! New subscriber here. Cool little switching layout. Yes, I'm a truck driver, but I started out as a HO model railroader. Just taking a break as I'm remodeling the basement for my new and improved modular, portable, free-mo-protolanced port layout. Inaddition with an N scale home town free-mo-lanced switching layout. Port layout is MoPP Missouri Pacific Port, Port Arthur, Texas. Hometown N scale is MP/KCW. Missouri Pacific and Kansas City Western division. Road diesels are the KCS SD70ACe's with MoPac GP's as locals.

Love the one rusty hopper and the aliens on the side of the other! Carl was funny until he ate ballast. He'll be missed. They could have waited for rigor mortis and used him as a tie. His hi-viz could mark a clearance point. It's what he would have wanted.
5:50 They'd never push a car that close to a set derail IRL. They'd remove it when they lined the switch for the siding, before starting the shove.
