  • @_thebigsteve

This game that's explained reminds me of my heart of the cards moment at a case tournament back in 2010. My opponent was playing lightsworn and I was playing machina. It was a very good back and forth game with us both shifting the power balance back and forth. It was the final round game 3 and my opponent had the advantage but I got him down to 1900 life points, he top decks judgment dragon and nukes my board leaving me with no cards in hand or on field and I believe it was the same for him (can't completely recall but it didn't matter for the outcome). He mills for his end phase after attacking me directly and puts me at like 1400 life points. I top deck reflect bounder, summon it in attack mode and end turn. He begins his turn only to realize I win. He can't pay 1000 to nuke the board because he only has 900 life points, when he ends his turn the last 4 cards of his deck will be milled via JD's effect, and of he attacks reflect bounder he takes 3000 damage before hos attack goes through. It legit felt like a moment out of the show and was one of my proudest tournament wins.

Then make Herald of Arc light during the opponents turn, Its battle immune and banishes every card they mill or discard that can sac and negate anything. Early Herald usually stuns them. Baxia can reanimate it if you choose to you its omni negate.

There was one guy who used to go to my locals a lot from a couple of cities away. He had a group of friends that were, for the most part, pretty chill guys. But this dude had a bad rep before he started showing up. Hes permanently banned from all regionals because of cheating. He use to pick up him opponents cards to *read* them, but would actually use his pinky nail to leave a scratch mark on the back so he knew when they came back up. He ended up getting caught so many times he got banned for it. And thats how he ended up going to my locals. He had one in his town but my guess is they banned him there too. Anyway, one day he came in after the first round started, and got told he was taking a game loss if he still wanted to compete (he hadnt paid to enter or anything yet) but got MAD. He started SCREEMING about how bs it was that we wouldnt restart the whole thing for 3 people (like 24 were already there). The whole room went silent while he yelled at the dude running the games. So much so that the owner (hosts wife) came out and started screeming back at him to leave before they call the cops. His friends were trying to get him to give up and leave but he started calling the owner a b word and like 3 of the regulars started threatening to beat him if he didnt leave (she was usually really nice). Eventually the host grabbed him and threw him outside and we only saw his buddies after that. We all gave a statement when the cops showed up and it was crazy.

I had a similar situation happen when I dueled some 14 year old regional winner playing a meta deck, I top decked three chain energy's ring of destruction, and secret barrel. Chain energy is a trigger cost meaning the minute the card leaves your hand to play it you lose 500 life points. I had 3 of them out meaning all three triggered simultaneously for a staggering 1500 burn damage per card. So my young opponent not really understanding what a trigger effect meant starts going off. While he is playing his cards and adding to his hand, I am sitting there calculating - 1500 -1500-1500-1500-1500. After he had three big beatsticks out at 3k each. I heard him all cocky and then I had my buddy come up behind me see his points and my points my field and my opponents field and begin to laugh so hard he was buckled over. Finally he stood up looked at the kid and said, how was the burning kid looked confused I then explained the effect of chain energy was triggering everytime he played a card. He at that moment had 500 points. He realized his mistake than confidently said when I have game attack directly, to which I flipped my secret barrel hitting him for a staggering 1200 points winning me the game.

Chain Energy's effect is a Continuous-like effect, not a Trigger-like one. It applies a cost to some player actions. It is not burn damage. Also, topdecking usually refers to hoping the 1 card you draw is an out, not to the opening hand.

@@craighorner5259 top decking typically refers to the situation where you have nothing & your only hope is to draw the card that you need. for example, your opponent's only card is 1 monster & they keep poking you & you have no cards & hope to draw a monster that can stop you from getting pecked to death. "open" is what is usually used to refer to your opening hand. it could be said you opened a playset off the top of your deck, but when drawing your opening cards, the game hasn't begun & there's no need to top deck anything because nothing has happened yet to make you in need of a certain card. if you open with 4 pieces of exodia & your opponent goes 1st & sets up a board that will kill you next turn & will stop you from drawing more cards, you will be top decking for the 5th piece.

I have a local tournament story. It happened maybe a week after the release of Phantom Darkness. I wasn’t interested in the yubel cards personally, but I got some important cards from that set for my deck. That deck being Gate guardian.
It was round 3 of my local tournament. I was playing against a usually very calm person, but he’s only calm because he uses some... green stuff to keep him relaxed. For the sake of this story, let’s call him Dan. Dan was playing cyber dragon for fun and it was a comfort deck for him since he liked using it. The first game was uneventful. I won the game and Dan said that I go first for the second game. I didn’t put in any important going second cards. The only cards I put in were 2 cosmic cyclones and a fun card that I forgot to take out of the deck. I got the fun card in my opening hand. I summoned heavy labyrinth tank and was able to get its effect off successfully. It placed suijin in the spell and trap zone as a continuous spell. I activated the effect of shadow ghoul of the labyrinth to add labyrinth wall shadow. Dan activates droll. That’s okay since I don’t add a lot of cards from deck to hand anyways. I activate the field spell to place kazejin in the spell and trap zone. I activate a second field spell to place sanga of the thunder in the spell and trap zone. Instead of banishing all of them, I send them to the graveyard to summon Hamon, lord of striking thunder into defense position. If hamon is in defense, it’s the only attack target. I banish all of the gate guardian pieces from the graveyard to summon gate guardians combined. Lastly, I shuffle all 3 back into the deck to summon dark guardian from the hand into defense l. I end my turn there. Important to note: Dark guardian is unaffected by opponents monsters and spell effects if it’s summoned by dark element. Because it wasn’t, its only effect is that it can’t be destroyed by battle. I tell. Dan this. He is starting to get frustrated since he doesn’t know how he’ll break my board with the cards in his hand. Dan is able to get cyber end dragon onto the field, though. He tries to attack my gate guardian combined, but I tell him he can only attack hamon due to its effect. He uses limiter removal to double the attack of cyber end dragon and then attacks. I banish shadow ghoul of the labyrinth from my graveyard at the start of the damage step to destroy cyber end dragon. With little to do, he special summons another cyber dragon and simply contact fuses it with my heavy tank for chimeratech fortress dragon into defense and ends his turn. I draw and I’m able to get a gate guardian of water and thunder onto the field and attack for game with all of my monsters. Dan scoops without saying a word, leaves his deck with the owner of the store, and leaves. Someone who was watching the game ended up telling me that he had raigeki in his hand the whole time. He didn’t use it because he thought dark guardian was unaffected my spell effects, but it wasn’t since it wasn’t summoned with dark element. He eventually came back to the store on a later day to pick up his deck, but took a break from yugioh for a bit. Apparently, Dan got so frustrated after the game, he got into a heated argument with a friend of his at home. Dan quit the green stuff as of typing this story because it affected his mental health too much and he’s a lot happier. That’s my little story for a local tournament.

Good on the LGS owner for calling Teki and warning him but I have to ask, why didn't he call the cops when this guy came in clearly looking for trouble? This guy apparently has a rep of being a criminal, is clearly there with intention to assault someone over a CHILDREN'S CARD GAME, and is asking around for when Teki would be there solidifying that intention; owner should have called the cops, explained what was going on, waited for them to show up, told this guy and his douche squad to GTFO, when they put up a fuss (because we all know they would) have the cops escort them out and ban them. Can all but guarantee that each of the little squad had a jacket of priors that would keep them off the streets for a while at least.

I’ve got a bit of a funny story that just happened yesterday at my local’s. So I went to my locals and I hadn’t played tcg yugioh in over 2 years as I had been away at trade school and had no reliable way of playing irl, so I spent those two years playing master duel and picked up on a few tricks. But I still semi kept up with the meta, new cards/decks, and the banlist so I knew about Snake-Eyes and Fiendsmith and all that jazz. So it’s about the 3rd round, I had lost my previous 2 matches, and my opponent is this teen that came here with his dad. Now at this point everything was fine, I won the die roll and decided to go first. Now, this kid had said that he had overhead me summon Souleating Oviraptor during my last match so he thought I was playing dinos, while he was partially correct, I was playing Dinomorphia, and I was about to piss this kid off so badly. Now fast forward a few turns into the duel and I have summoned both of the Dinomorphia boss monsters (Ketrigina and Rextrem) and this kid was playing Fiendsmith which was my first time actually playing against the deck so I was also trying to figure out where I should focus my disruptions at. Now one thing you should know is that my life points at that point was 1,000, and when the kid tried to activate the effect of the Engraver he brought back I told him he couldn’t because of my Rextrem’s effect. This is where the annoyances started, he began showing his frustration as my giant t-Rex prevented a lot of his combo from going off since he needed all his monster’s effects to activate, but with my life points so low, they couldn’t. He then tried to enter battle to clear the Therazia I still had on my field, and this is where the second annoyance started. He declared his attack on my Theriza and I said “Before damage calculation, I activate Rextrem’s effect.” and at this money he really started getting upset with me; see one of Rextrem’s effects is that (Quick effect): you can pay half you life points in order to make every monster your opponent currently controls have the same atk as my current life points. So a trick I usually do is I wait right before damage calculation to activate it so that they can’t stop the attack and will take battle damage. I knew about this because I learned it in master duel, where the game can tell you you have an effect you can activate before, during, and after an interaction, something that’s not so easily done in the tcg. This kid got so annoyed thinking he could redeclare his attack that he called over his dad to ask if he got a redeclare or not, which once I explained my cards to his dad, he agreed with me and said that since the attack was already declared and it was before damage step, my effect was legal to go off without a redeclare happening. The kid got so frustrated after that was just trying to figure out anyway to get rid of my Rextrem, but he couldn’t and I ended up winning the round 2-0. And despite being very frustrated, he stuck it out and didn’t scoop up his cards and I praised for that, even though he was still salty with me.

I believe, for mtg, players may not misrepresent information freely available to their opponents, but they're under no obligation to correct misplays or make sure they they understand exactly what an effect does, unless an opponent is making an illegal play based off of such a misunderstanding.
Basically, you're not obligated to help an opponent making a bad play, unless that play would be illegal. If an effect instructs a player to name a card, a real card must be named or otherwise destinctively described, and play cannot proceed until an existing card has been identified.

I have a curious one but don't know if it can be make in a video.
This happen in a local shop tournament in Mexico City in April 2008 when Phantom Darkness and the Caius structure decks released. DAD Turbo was one of the tier 0 decks.
I returned to play the game after being in a little hiatus due because I was going to university and going to voice acting classes.
One friend invited me to enter and try to win The Millenium Puzzle Trophy in a tournament that occured later that year (I didn't won that BTW), however, this story takes place in the local shop tournament, it was a way to prepare myself since I didn't knew what decks were top tier.
The GX anime was at its hypest and I built an E-Hero deck, BUT... I built it with Evil Heros in mind as I liked more the Evil fusions than the Elemental or Destiny ones... to be fair... it wasn't the best deck for its time because, as I said, DAD was the deck to beat, and Stratos was days away to be released, but I like how it turned out. (If you want the decklist tell me :) )
It was the final round of the tournament that didn't played 2 out 3, just one duel per round. I was 1-1, I go to my assigned table where my oponent was already waiting, he was a chill dude with a nice attitude. We fist bump (its the was we greet more in Mexico rather than handshake) and we started , oh and he was 2-0 in the tournament results. Since we were the top players, people gather around our table.
He was playing DAD Turbo with Destiny Heroes, He won the dice roll, however, in turn 3, I got a lucky blessings, as his Dark Armed Dragons were at the bottom of his deck, no matter how much he milled with Dark Grepher and Armaggedon Knight and how much he drew with the Destiny Heroes and the Pre-errata version of Dark Magician of Chaos, stil hew managed to attack me a lot and left me with low life points around 1000 and he had 4000. The audience was shocked seeing how DAD was not appearing to end this and that my opponent bricked.
Its my turn, I draw, my hand was, draw included, 6 cards: 1x Malicious Edge, 1 Burstinatrix, 1 Avian, 1 Clayman, 1 Sparkman and 1 Dark Fusion . I had an empty field and my oponent had Dark Magician of Chaos, 1 Dark Grepher and 1 Armaggedon Knight with a Bottomless Traphole. Keep in mind, this is turn 4 and I haven't played any fusion monster, in my turn 2 I played Monster Reborn and he chained a Solemn Judgement.
The card I drew was Infernal Prodigy. First, special summon Infernal Prodigy, then I tribute it to summon Malicious Edge, he stopped me because Edge is a level 7, but he read it and then told me to continue, BUT he didn't chain his Bottomless (don't know if he forgot or did it on purpose); I use Prodigy's effect and draw 1 card, another Dark fusion, It was now or never. I played Dark Fusion and Summon Evil Hero Lighting Golem and then I played the second Dark Fusion and Summon Inferno Wing, Becuase I played Dark Fusion in both cases he could not chain Bottomless.
My opponent and audience was surprised to see those cards since nobody was playing the Evil Heroes. I activated Lighting Golem effect and pop his Magician of Chaos, then I proceed to the Battle Phase, I attack Dark Grepher with Inferno Wing doing 400 of damage then, I activate Wing's effect and I do 1700 more damage, he now has 1900, I attack with Knight with Golem, doing 1000 of damage, leaning with 900 damage and then I ended the duel with Edge.
My opponent's jaw drop of what happen, but he wasn't angry, he fist bump me again and he told me: "Dude, its the first time I see someone play those heroes, good work, look forward for Stratos", I had no idea what he was talking about at that time. People around applaud me and give me a lot of palms in the back, I was happy and confused at the same time.
After we received our prices, my opponent left with his friends and other people told me that I should feel proud because, and this is the curious part, I beat the 3rd best duelist in all of Mexico in that year. And I am like: Wow... how's that for a coming back to the game.
See you later and kep up the good work man :)

Funnily my worst and best experiences in Yuigoh happened and the same event in back to back rounds
For context: This was a the most recent Birmingham UK Nationals event 2024, I play the deck Marincess, a link combo deck with plenty of one card starters and a boss monster that can be given some janky protection.
Best experience: going into round 2 off the back of a 2-0 win vs Snake-eye I sit across from my opponent, have a nice conversation with him before our game starts, we shuffle and cut each other's decks and wish each other luck.... What followed was one of the most intense, most fun and most exhausting 2-1 games I've ever had to play, opponent was playing Branded we ended up going all the way to time with finishing LP being super low (I think it was like 1100 me, 800 him), I took the win was super happy and then in one of the kind most unexpected things I've ever seen before my opponent pulls out his binder and proceeded to help Rarity bump my marincess deck for absolutely no reason than he enjoyed our match and wanted to help me out... I actually cried
Worst experience: jumping into round 3 on a high after round 2 I sat down at my table, set everything up and shuffled waiting for my opponent, round start is called and no opponent, 5 min pass no opponent, at this point I've spoke to a few judges and if he didn't arrive within 10 min I get a free win.... My opponent arrives at the table at 9min and 50s... No joke a judge was stood there when he arrived and he told him that had he been 10s later he'd have lost the round, this guy proceeded to look the judge dead in the eye and say "doesn't matter this match won't take long anyway....." Cocky doesn't even begin to describe this guys attitude, it took him a further 5 min to set up and shuffle and we started, I wished him good luck.... Silence, I lost the dice roll and he made me go first, straight away I figured he was playing tenpai so I get ready to try and face that monster deck... I enter standby phase, he plays Shifter..... I proceed to play through shifter ending on a modest but easy to break board due to the loss of resources, the entire time I'm building my board he's cursing and muttering under his breath about combo decks and stupid mechanics, he ends up winning game 1 and I side against tenpai and go first, but before we even got to begin game 2 I had to call a judge because my opponent wouldn't let me cut his deck and instead cut it himself and tried to hurry me up because we were close on time, the judge resolved the issue and we started I opened full marincess combo, dimensional barrier and a ash blossom, I was ready for this game...stand by, Shifter...... Again I built a modest board with what I had, set my barrier and passed, my opponent draws and then proceeded straight to battle phase, he hit me with a evenly matched.... I left the Barrier on the field and he proceeded to combo with me eventually locking him out of synchros and blocked a search with ash.... He passed, I drew.... Ash blossom.... I passed and he went to battle phase straight away and attacked with one of his monsters just as Time was called.... I lost 1-2 I proceeded to congratulate him and attempted to be a good sport about the loss and he just packed up looked directly at me and said "maybe now you'll start playing a real deck, instead of that shit" and he walked off.... I'll honestly never forget that comment because it genuinely hurt as I enjoy playing my rogue decks marincess in especially and to have someone attack the thing I loved right in front of me hurt, especially after having such a great round 2 before
I will say justice was served later in the day when a friend of mine got paired up against him in round 8 and proceeded to 2-0 him with Purrely and then standing up and leaving without saying a word to him, I'm assuming he didn't make it to day 2 because I saw him later that day complaining to people I assume we're is friends about "stupid tie breakers" and how they should "be allowed to play to resolve them"
Overall I really enjoyed Nationals and just wanted to share my best and worst moments with you all

    Alright, here’s my story:
2010 (or maybe 2011 I can’t exactly recall), Synchros are dominating, Lightsworns and Blackwings are going crazy, I decide ‘screw it all, I’m going to play Volcanics’. I built my deck to be anti swarm and to burn fast and quickly, so if I came across a majority of Blackwing players, I’d at least not immediately die.
I win the 2-1 in two matches against Lightsworns and Drill Plant Synchron (I definitely got lucky lmao) and then go on to play against a blackwing player. The first two games were very neck and neck, he won once and then I won once.
Game 3, he set up a board of Armored Wing and Sirocco and hit me to about 700 and then passed. At this point all I had was Shell in my hand and he blew away my Blaze Accelerator so I couldn’t use it: and I didn’t have any more Volcanic Counters in the graveyard to threaten his remaining 1700 points with. So I drew, begged to god for an answer.
So: one of the main reasons I won those last few matches? The controversially brave card, Ceasefire. And that’s what I drew. I had one gambit left: set Shell, set Ceasefire and pray they summon a third monster or I die.
Their turn comes around, they take a few seconds to think which felt like hours. And they SS Bora.
IMMEDIATE Ceasefire-game over. The LOOK on that guys face, it read “how did my 200 dollar Blackwing turbo lose to a scrub Volcanic deck???” He legit just picked up his stuff and lumbered out LOL

This reminds me of a duel where I faced an opponent who only summoned number 59: crooked cook. My turn goes by and I summon a bigger monster to attack it only for me to surprised that it was still on the field. Turns out I forgot that my opponent summoned crooked cook with astral kuriboh. In short, that monster was IMMUNE to ALL card effects AND cant be destroyed by BATTLE. I rest of the match was just drawing cards till one of us gave up(me).

    I got a story
Back in 2022 I have built a shark deck as I was excited to go test it out and bring it to locals tournament and hang with a bunch of my friends as when I went to my locals competing in the tournament as the tournament began excited I looked up at the board who I was facing and it was a BYE which means In locals if there is an odd number of people someone is gonna get a free win which happen to be me which in this case I’m ok with but I prefer to compete for a win instead of a free pass but I couldn’t do anything about so I waited till the first match of the tournament was over and began match 2 to which case I was facing branded and won the match and then my second match was Floowandereeze to which I lost too and last match of the night was facing HERO deck which is another deck I myself enjoy playing a lot with as well so I pretty much know the deck very well and the person I was playing against name Connor and he looked younger then me I was 25 he looked like middle school or close to high school age so 12 maybe and he seem to be very kind and a bit excited as we shook hands and rolled to see who went first and he won the die roll and went to go first going with activating fusion destiny fusing malicious and denier from the deck to bring out destroyer phoenix enforcer which now Connor is locked into dark Speacle summon now and now he continued his limited combo and then summons out sunrise which is not a dark but a light and I paused to think ok? Realizing he was going for absolute zero when I had to stop him and tell him your lock in dark you can summon sunrise or absolute zero and he said yes I can and I showed him the card of destiny fusion and explained the card to which like stumbled and asked the judge to confirm it trying to get an easy one off of me as the judge said that he was locked into dark and he was playing an illegal move so he had to rethink to which now I’m waiting only having Connor with just pheonix enforcer a elemental hero stratos and a cross crusader and pass his turn. Then it was mine turn upon draw phase drawing rank up magic the seventh one which can only be activated by drawing it at first then reveal it and then during main phase activate it to bring 1 monster with a number from 101-107 out and then summon a Cnumber of that monster bringing out silent honor ark To xyz summon silent honor dark then activating honor darks effect to attack destroyer phoenix enforcer only to chain to phoenix enforcers effect to pop his own cross crusader to pop my silent honor dark which triggers silent honor darks other effect to revive and I gain life points to its atk that’s 2800 life points I then proceed to activate raigeki destroying his monsters and activated DD crow to banish phoenix enforcer I proceed to summon my shark monsters and brought out totally buhamut shark, totally awsome and stealth kraken and using silent honor dark to bring out full armor crystal zero lancer which can be summoned since silent honor dark was a rank 5 and gain 500 since it had 1 xyz material i went to battle and brought him down a bit as he said Game 2 and he went first again and did everything correctly this time to bring out plasma and phoenix enforcer and passing to me only to be trapped as I had bricked and we went to game 3 as I went first as I had full combo with stealth kraken, buhamute shark, totally awsome, and abyss shark and I also had gozen match face down to which it was his turn he played destiny fusion only to be negated by totally awsome and then he summoned destiny hero dark angel to which I was confused as to why he summoned it on his field as then I played gozen match having us all only summon monsters with the same attribute and since all monsters in the field were now water due to stealth kraken I had locked both of us into water lock but then Connor had played polymerization to fuse it and neo in his hand…….i said can’t do that as I had to explain to him dark angel was on his side of the field and if your not familiar dark angel stops spells played on the field on the side it’s summoned on to which is his side so he stop his own spell card and then called for judge to only be on my side again as Connor screwed himself over but then proceeded to try to summon vision hero varis only for me to say can’t again cause he could only summon water monsters as to which he gotten pretty upset how he was explaining that the other matches he was allowed but that was only because the other people he played against didn’t pay attention to the text as he got up and shout to everyone IM BOT GONNA PLAY TO A BUNCH OF F***ing cheaters
As people looked at me and and ask what’s wrong and I said water lock
    The end

Oh boy have I got myself a story in need of sharing that might be worthy of a video such as this.
For this story you can call me Sam. It was Friday night a few weeks after Legacy of Destruction released, just in time for the typical local tournament. I am not a casual player in any sense of the word so I brought my newly updated Ancient Gear deck which was designed for going first. I had grown tired of the typical OTK strategy and honestly the deck has going first potential being able to setup various negates. This is a detail which will become important as time goes on. It's a small locals, only 3 rounds and by round 3 I'm 1-1. I get matched against a dude who's known at the locals for all the wrong reasons. He's got the anime character syndrome except he barely ever wins. So 9/10 times he's just very mad at the game and everything around him. He despises when people set up massive negate boards or just negates in general to the point that he doesn't even run hand traps or cards like Bagooska in the main deck. The Bagooska is relevant because he was running Lunalight, which needed to go second and break boards (he had like 0 ways to break boards as well). So I get paired against this guy and he's surprisingly quiet as I walk over to his spot. Normally he's talking everyone's ear off but considering it was round 3 I figured he was just 0-2 and not having a good time.
We roll the dice and it lands in my favour so I elect to go first, which would have happened anyway but still. I open the fullest of combos possible. With Ancient Gear Advance and Regulus in hand I get out a Hope Harbinger, 3 material Apollusa, and Therion King Regulus. This is the type of boards when I get whenever I test this deck so I'm feeling good about life. So he starts his turn and is grumbling to himself a little, which is the typical mainstay of playing against him. When he's mad he grumbles, and considering his hatred of negates he was not having a good time. He tries to poly, boom Hope negate. Tries to special summon, boom Apo negate. Anything else, boom Regulus. He does not even pass the turn with a set pass, after the third negate he just moves to go next. I decide to side in Effect Veilers and Drolls but these don't come up. According to my memory though he only ended up siding in 3 Ash. At least that's all that I saw.
Now he makes me go second to which I'm not surprised. Whenever he loses to a deck that goes first he makes the other person go second even though he has literally no turn 1 plays. Keep in mind though this is still Ancient Gear. I have Chaos Giant and with the new support I have access to a three attack, untargetable, can't be destroyed by card effects, and is unaffected by monster effects Ultimate Ancient Gear Golem. So his turn begins and I think I had no handtraps but it did not matter because once again my hand was a banger. He sets up a Lunalight Cat Dance, which cannot be destroyed by battle and for all intentions and purpose this thing is his hail mary. So I start my turn by setting up Ancient Gear Fortress. This is what makes my Ancient Gears nigh indestructible and prevents their affects from being responded to. From here I am free to combo off but when I summon Ancient Gear Ballista he tries to Ash me. I respond with "You can't do that," because well, he can't. He asks why and I say "Because of Fortress." and then he yells at me, "How about you explain the card instead of just saying it does something!!!" This draws the attention of literally the entire room because he was very loud. I take my time to explain the card and he huffs, quite unpleased that such a card dare exist. I continue my combo while he mumbles to himself about God knows what. Eventually I move into battle phase with a Chaos Giant and an Ultimate Golem with his Cat Dancer at 0 attack and defense because of my Ballistas effect. The moment I declare battle he scoops it up. At this point he is absolutely livid. He scoops up his deck, flips off my board and yells once again. "I'm not mad at you! I'm mad at this bullshit deck!! With all its negates and OTKS!! I just love it when Konami takes away a decks gimmick and makes it generic negate spam!!"
Meanwhile I'm sitting here in complete shock because, well what on earth just happened. He got this mad at Ancient Gear, in the middle of Snake Eye's dominance. In fact we had multiple people playing Snake Eyes and Tenpia there but I was the one to set him off. I chatted with some of the players telling them this story and wondering why he was so mad. Turns out he did not just go 0-3 at this tournament. But he had gone 0-3 for the past 4 locals. Since this we've dueled and this continues to happen. He plays Lunalight, loses dramatically, and everyone moves on. If playing against him has taught me anything it's that keeping a level head is always a good idea.
Anyway thank you for your time and have a good rest of your day.

I kinda feel that actually. I think they are understand some bits since they playing with Lightsworn, one of technical GY archetype. Perhaps they just misplay or misheard about effects. Their respond that kinda gain attention around it
Once I made mistake like that, at the end of the round I just said "Ah f-k, I misplay. I forget about that". Laughing matter tbh. Common example like "My Raigeki is useless, but my Grand Mole useful" or forgetting opponent Waboku resolve earlier and you attack for no reason

Dont know if it would make an interesting story or not, but back in the times where lonefire blossom and ultimate offerings were legal, i went to nationals and after a standing record of 8:0 i dropped out of nationals because my parents were celebrating marriage anniversary. It even gave me an article online

It is a lesson of read the freaking card and/or know the rules. And build your own deck to know how it works.

Reminds me of when I played a guy almost two years ago. I used Amorphactor Pain, the Imagination Dracoverlord, he thought it also made links usless. I told him about his mistake, that was my mistake, but I didn't want to win the game that way. I didn't win, but still.

Tenki literally had zero obligation to explain his boss monster to the shady guy but decided to live life on the edge and flex, then shady guy gets pissy he lost to a card he had the out to and simply didn’t use cuz he was too stupid to listen. Yugioh players, amiright?
