Great review! Yeah this game is great but I never beat it.

I love this game, but some parts are infuriatingly difficult and sets you back so far when you make one small mistake. For this reason, I much prefer the 20th Anniversary edition since it puts checkpoints a little closer together. I think what made it difficult for me was that several sequences included trial and error, plus that area with the falling rocks was completely unpredictable with no discernable pattern. I actually enjoyed Heart of the Alien more than this one, but felt a bit depressed after the ending. Two other games I liked which had similar feel to this one were Heart of Darkness and Flashback.
