China has been implementing strict policies, preventing Tibetan dissenters from obtaining visas to visit their homeland, and China. This is one of the most visible aspects of transnational repression of the diaspora Tibetan communities around the world. This approach has been criticized by the U.S. State Department and numerous human rights organizations. Even those who occasionally receive visas to visit their families in Tibet are routinely interrogated and harassed. Kunleng invites Lugyal Dhundup, a Tibetan living in Swaziland who had the opportunity to visit his family in Tibet recently to discuss his experiences of returning to his hometown in Amdo.
