somehow, in all his glory, i feel like Mike Clark is still such an underrated drummer! so many funk and jazz concepts he’s mastered and effortlessly demonstrates here, should be lots more citing him, one of my favorite players
As a drummer, mike bonham and zigaboo Gadd are probably the guys that have leaked into my playing the most. Paul is one of my five favorite bassist in no order with Jamerson Bootsy Victor(not his slapping) and maybe entwhistle i’m forgetting someone though
Lol, yes. And the ninja thing is true. He rolled up on me on one of the comment sections in RUclips, and I was like, "wait a minute...I didn't know who I was talking to" lol. Never met him in person, but that online interaction was funny. He's a kind ninja, lol.

45 years ago in 1976 I was lucky enough to get to play (guitar) with Mike and Paul for a few weeks. Although they had just gotten off the road w/Herbie, they were in essence just neighborhood Oakland guys. Wow, I can't believe not only have I never seen this video, but also that it has less than a thousand "likes." Rest in Power Paul Jackson! This man played funk the way it should be. No slapping, no nonsense. Just laying down the dang groove!

Hot damn. Before the internet. before Cell phones. Before rap. Before white people crossed over into RNB and Soul music. Back when the American Music Awards had a category called "Best New Black Artist"...... This was Herbie's Headhunters rhythm section.
I can remember when the Herbie Hancock album Thrust came out and in the first two measures of the first cut Palm Grease. I knew then and there this guy was special. I’m referring to Mike Clark, but Paul Jackson rates just as high in my book.

So agree
That level of devastating filth is probably illegal. Unrivaled nastiness. The master class.
I need boots to walk through this filth got damn the funk smell like shit just to nasty & 🤮 funky!
mike clark's snare displacements live rent free in my brain
I wish they lived in mine too so I could study them easily
R.i.p. master Paul Jackson who made me love électric funk bass
Rip Paul Jackson, arguably the funkiest bassist of all time, and thank you for your substantial contributions.
I'd say unarguably!
amazing groove despite of only bass and drums! I’m Japanese and I have big affinity to Paul Jackson as he was living in Japan with his Japanese wife.
Funkiest rhythm section ever!
This is the irrefutable truth
Totally...it never gets old...but have you heard max sansalone?...he’s got time like Mike

Agree but you must consider also the duo Tony Thompson & Bernard Edwards
They're like the coolest dads!
😂

Alright. This is the best comment I've read in a while. I'm laughing while I nod in agreement. That's a great way to think about their sound hahaha.
RIP. Paul ♥️ the funk lives on in all of us
This is easily one of the best videos on RUclips!
It really is
Just grateful to be alive when The Headhunters arrived.
Two masters of the highest funk and groove order - none could mess with them. Thank you Paul for your inspiration ....
This is what we are missing in today’s drummers Aint nothing better than old school
Check out Nate Smith. The funk is still alive.
Yussef Dayes, JD Beck, Chris Dave, Perrin Moss aka Clever Austin, Anderson .Paak, ...
@@modifiedcontent lemme add Justin Brown from Thundercat
We are still here
For rock, if John Bonham was still here. Jimmy Chamberlin does some nice work with Catalano. Subtler funk, but it's there.

The combination here is RIDICULOUS! WOW!
The rhythms and grooves to every Dirty Harry and porn movies in the 70's...
This is the most important video on youtube for a drummer and/or bass player
When a bass does what it should.
My fav couples ever: Clark/Jackson, Pastorius/Erskine, Garibaldi/Rocco Prestia ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

They did! In addition to their work in The Headhunters, they co-led bands together on the albums 'The Funk Stops Here' (1992) and 'Conjunction' (2001)
