I have anxiety and PTSD, this is my theme song. I used to be a First Response Rescuer, I’ve seen more than my share of deceased people from babies to elderly. I was confident, adventurous, social butterfly. Now I’m shy, struggle to be around people and polar opposite of “who I used to be”
Rob is an acquaintance of mine, and there is not a single person who is kinder, more humble, and just looking in his eyes his truth is out there for all of us to see. He is a wonderful soul who is full of love and light!! He is as rare as a Unicorn!!!
Love Matchbox 20! Rob Thomas has one of those voices that, to me, seems instantly recognizable. I think I have requested before that you check out the song "Smooth" that he does with Santana.
As a psych nurse, I definitely see paranoid schizophrenia in this. Also, if you'll notice, he (the paranoid schizophrenic) is wearing a t-shirt that simply says "Love Me". That's pretty profound.
I always thought it was about this and/or depression because the cartoon dog symbolizes depression. Never took any psychology classes though, at least not yet.
@@bipolarbear9952 yeah, I read it somewhere because I was looking up the meaning of the song and someone said that about the dog. Pretty sure the person who said that was either a psychologist or psychiatrist, but either way. I have never took psychology, just know this stuff because of either personal experience or just looked it up. (Lots of people that I met in high school had mental health issues or were mentally/physically handicapped and some of my family members have mental illnesses, so I can identify these people and I have my own mental health issues).
I love this song. I suffer from ptsd and about 10 years ago I was in a bad place and wasn’t being treated for ptsd, I was undiagnosed at that time. But I had two suicide attempts back before I began receiving treatment and of course they made me do some inpatient counseling and they would have a musician come and sing and this is one of the songs he sang.
Rob Franklin Can you watch it on RUclips? That’s my favorite song by them! He’s a great guy! When his wife got sick with one of the illnesses I have! They started a charity for it and one for animals !! To bring awareness to her illness but it still doesn’t get awareness! I know it all to well bc it’s called invisible illnesses and you never see commercials about them ! It’s also in the category of Chronic pain! I have 3 in that category and it’s REAL but even my mother doesn’t believe and she sees me every day bc I’m stuck in her house on disability! She thinks it’s my medicine that give me the side effects and she thinks I just need to get off my meds and I’ll be better! Bc she won’t even look up my illnesses and see what it does to your body! So we fight every day! I’ve even tried to get off my meds a few times but Even after lowering my meds , I had to start again bc all the stuff my illnesses bring to my body just got worse and two of them just got worse and I started falling down and hitting my head leaving gashes in my head and huge knots, even on my face! She blamed my meds, Even after seeing my neurologist who said every time I fall I need to use my walker for another year! She just thinks I got a walker bc I don’t wanna get better!! There’s no cure for anything I have! That’s how unrecognized Chronic pain / Invisible illnesses are by the public but Rob Thomas and his wife tried and Paula Abdul tried also but her manager said to change her diagnosis to the public bc it was so unrecognized! That’s Sad!
This song is about mental illness. Things like schizophrenia, personality disorders, even dementia. When you have an episode and people look at you differently when something's happening that you can't control. Check out Mad As A Hatter by Larkin Poe. It's only the live version that's available because they're not very well known, but it's another one about mental illness.
I love Matchbox 20, they were one of my favorite bands from the 90's. Rob Thomas (the lead singer) had a HUUUUUUUUGE hit with a song he did along with Santana called "Smooth" (which got way too overplayed back then on the radio/mtv, etc). Push, 3am, Bent, and Long Day are some of their best songs imo.
I know this song is about mental illness but the lyrics worked for my brother. He spent 20 years dying of a brain tumor and as you watched him die his mental state got worse and worse. At first you couldn't tell by looking at him but he was becoming more paranoid and also you thought of who he used to be. He would have the tumor removed and he'd be back to who he was before, then it would grow back and he would be a different person. I hope that's okay that I hear it this way.
It’s like on the surface I seem ok, but if you stick around you’ll see I’m not ok and when u finally see it you’re gonna wonder what happened to who you thought I was. Matchbox 20 has some amazingly deep lyrics ❤️ You should react to Push by them. It’s one of my favorites!
Great BAnd ... Love Matchbox 20 should listen to .. 3 AM ( it's about his mom ... Think she was going through cancer at the time )... also .... * If you're gone, Bent, Real World & Push ... also really good songs :)
Why is it that people are willing to help others with a physical illness but hesitate and ignore people who have mental illness?? All of us need to be loved, to know that people care.
I love Rob Thomas, the vocalist ! He sings songs about his wife who has an autoimmune disease! They also have charities for that and for cats and dogs ! Real sweet guy !!
Matchbox Twenty is my favorite band I love them I love Rob Thomas the lead singer of the band I saw him live on The Great Unknown tour and it was awesome
I promised my ex-husband that I would play this at his funeral...he loved this song. He was plagued with mental health issues and I always wished that he would get the help he needed. He died 10 years ago this Dec 26th. RIP Derek.
So glad to finally catch up with this reaction to such an amazing singer song writer. Check out his song "Rob Thomas- Peices (official video). God bless my u my friend. 🙏💕
Yeah Push is good and 3 am, My Fav MB20 tune is If you're gone. But "SMOOTH" Rob Thomas in colab with Carlos Santana is a must listen. Great Reaction as always.
We're all a little crazy, aren't we? Maybe it's just me. 😂 I had tickets for a Matchbox Twenty concert on September 11, 2001. Needless to say the concert was cancelled. 💙
I read that rob Thomas took care of his very sick mother alone for several years & then at age 16 set out to make his way in the music world. Thats real devotion real love. And real talent. The whole band is great! And this song tells me somebody has ADHD. ADHD people see things & make connections & hear things others ppl can't But adhd numbers grow every year by leaps & bounds. ADHD ppl see things others can't because most ppl stopped trying to see! ..and we all just stepped into the era of enlightenment. The Earth is growing! Changing! Flipping her magnetic poles! The northern magnetic pole is racing across Siberia ! Headed south! Think about that EVERYTHING we know changing. We should all Start looking closer. Maybe then we will all see compassion for what it really is. A way to save ourselves! I enjoyed your reaction ! Thank you again!
I like this song because it puts into words what I've been through with my depression and anxiety. When I had my first episode I had only a few friends that stood by me. You learn who your friends really are
This band is amazing. The lead singer Rob Thomas was homeless before was noticed. He collects food for the homeless in the towns they performed. It's a truly a gracious thing to do.
Yes! If you are interested in checking out more by them I'd recommend Push, 3AM, Back 2 Good, Bent and Rob Thomas did a collaboration with Carlos Santana called Smooth. All great songs and Rob's wife is in the video for Smooth.
Ha Ha Ha!!! Loved your reaction watching this video. I love Matchbox 20 and this song because that's the way I am without the voices and hallucinations. I'm not crazy I'm just a little unwell.
I know you probably won't get to read this, but I hope you do. I can definitely relate to this song, I've been there and still battle depression, and the line, how I use to be is always in my head Any way I came across your site the other night was in a really dark place, I ended up listening for hours and really enjoying it, I felt like I was hanging with good friend, it brought me back to some really good times, Jackir Wilson, the Righteous Brothers, you really have to check out more of Jackie Wilson his song, To Be Loved will blow you away!!! Anyway it was really great hanging out with you, it put me in a great mood, looking forward to doing it again, like the song said, how I use to be you brought me back to when I really enjoyed life, will be checking you out, I just need to find out how to get to your page!!!
Love this song! Thanks for sharing it. We should all be slow to judge and have empathy. If I were his friend, I'd have asked him if I could pray for him. Lol!!
First person to make a video where they say not to subscribe until you've seen their other videos! I always thought this song was about mental illness though! Love this song!
Hahaha I've always loved this song and I just now realized that there was banjo in this song. lol. Great point about how he used to be. Love your reaction videos.

Speaking of matchbox 20 the lead singer Rob Thomas now has some solo albums out I'm a long time listener but I just don't comment often I'd appreciate it if you could possibly do a listen to the song called pieces by Rob Thomas. I dedicated it to my daughter last year after she attempted suicide twice.

You should definitely check out more from Rob Thomas, especially his solo stuff. Also, you need to do the Beatles. If you want to hear a good song to start you off with the Beatles, start with In My Life.
Oh no, you just HAVE TO do Matchbox Twenty's song DOWNFALL...its alternative + gospel and its simply amazing. Will blow you away. Also, this was the theme song for the movie Beautiful Mind, that is why he is seeing things in the video.
