Keys yellow because of the oxidative effect on the material the keys are made of: acrylic plastic and polycarbonate. UV light catalyses the reaction. Some of it can be prevented with a keyboard cover/ avoiding sunlight, and some people use a high grit emery cloth (100 grit or higher) to remove surfance oxidation sometimes.

That was one of my firsts keybs, I bough it used with key damage, fixed it and sold it more expensive, with that money I got a damaged Alesis Q49, fixed it and sold it more expensive, 2 weeks ago I got a new Nektar LX61+ at a discount for cyber day xD.... I'm SOOOO happy with this keyb
2:20 The yellow color is because the keys are made of polymer, and those kind of "plastics" have a hard time under UV light (like natural day light reaching your room)
The problem with that Keystation keyb is that the keys are hold in place via a thin plastic bridge that is screwed to the base of the keybed, and over time, that bridge tends to break, I really don't recommend this keyboard if you plan to keep it for many years. Other keyboards Like the Alesis Q49 have a really good keybed and the keys are hold in position via strong springs.

Had one for years then couldn't get into home recording. Dug it out to try again during lockdown and am really appreciating a great piece of kit. Lots of YT videos don't go into the 'advanced features' mode. Download a PDF manual and, along with multiple other things, the issues with velocity curve are eliminated.

My dad was the injection molding industry for 30 years the yellowing is from UV light as others mentioned. The irony is there is an additive they can put with the resin to prevent the yellowing it would cost pennies per keyboard but they don’t care to spend the money.

@@charlesshaw6239 Hi, Windows 10 actually should recognize your device, regardless of which type of DAW you're using. Try hooking it up and switch on/off a few times -or hook it up, go to your DAW control panel and see if there is something in the settings that stops or keeps it from seeing it. For now that's the only thing I can think of really. Personally I'm using Fruity Loops and there's sometimes a problem if a few settings in FL's control panel are not right or fully switched on.

One I snagged one of these IN THE BOX today, it had a little yellowing on account of its age, but it was solid and had volume. Now, I'm all about hardware, I just like it. Love knobs and faders man. Plus I aint got a good computer. Do you know of any small, cheapish hardware synths I could get started on (pref poly)? I have a ton of rackmount effects and guitar pedals I could toy around with, I just need the sound generator and I'm new to synths. (I'm open to hearing about a software alternative too...I just want to have a solid piece of equipment at some point...even if its a cheap kinda starter set)

The key surface has too much traction. The best thing to do is to take the keyboard apart and sand each key with fine sand paper (grade 240 works well). Work the full length of the key to create a fine grain effect, same on the black keys, here though sand the sides also. Then buff with kitchen roll to finish. I can now glide around the keys much easier.

Hi, I'm on Windows, and just bought one of theses Keystation 49e. It's class compliant, meaning you just plug it in and it works and don't need specific drivers, but for those who wan't the specific drivers anyway they can still be found on the M-Audio website.
I was wondering... in the user manual, it says that it has channel aftertouch... but has it really channel atertouch when pressing strongly the keys (if so mine does'nt work) or is it that the channel aftertouch CC messages are transmitted with the volume slider while in some mode not desccribed in the manual (some midi controller like the Alesis Q49 say that they have channel aftertouch... but in fact send "aftertouch" messages with a slider and not the keys) ???
