I'll always remember writing him a letter asking where I could purchase waterproof9 when it first came out in 2001 - he just mailed me the CD, and this has always stuck with me.
Since I couldn't find em elsewhere, here are the names of the musicians Patrick Watson - Vocals Simon Angell - Acoustic Guitar Mishka Stein - Electric Guitar Mélanie Bélair - Violin Robbie Kuster - Percussion
I much prefer when those names are included on the notes and even more when the people with mics introduce everyone performing - it isn’t that hard to do and there is no reason why that isn’t protocol.
I saw him last week and there was a girl crying. Your not alone! One of the most amazing concerts and displays of musicianship I've ever seen... him and his band.
doesnt he have one of the most beautiful, soft and controlled voices in contemporary indie / folk?? can't believe no one else is commenting on that. i love his voice!
The workers who do this are so lucky to hear so many different bands and musicians right in front of them Like I’ll never get to listen to even half of what they have
Este video me recuerda muchas cosas y cada cierto tiempo lo vengo a ver para recordar lo bonito que e pasado y es triste saber q a veces algunas cosas importantes cambian 😢😢😢
Patrick is soooo talented! To me, he is a classic. I have been a faithful fan since the beginning. Everything he produces is a m a z i n g, with complexities through vocals and instruments. I appreciate his music. He is musically genius.
Graham Werner I love how he moves to the music - like he is channeling his energy not only through his voice. He is beautiful to listen to and to watch.
I love him - he sings like an angel! I love all the voices at 2:46. I love his smile and laugh at 9:17. I love how he is still wearing 3 concert bracelets.
Twelve steps in to your backyard Through tall green grass, and into the world Ain't it feel right Ain't it feel nice In your own backyard A dirty winding road, around your feet That carries me along and into the beat Didn't need to go so far To find what you were thirsty for Didn't need to go so far To find what you were looking for Cause it was always beside Just right behind Right up ahead You just didn't know What was in your own backyard Twelve steps in to your own backyard Twelve steps in to your own backyard Twelve steps in to your own backyard Twelve steps in to your own backyard
He seems like an odd fellow. I might or might not want to have a conversation with him. Probably not, because I'd rather listen to his music. This is not a criticism. His music is so beautiful that I would choose it over all but the most impressive of conversation. And he surrounds himself with extremely [multi] talented backing musicians. What a confluence of talent and apparent onstage respect. What a beautifully layered unique product their gripping music is.
i love the innovative instruments in all of these. saw with a violin bow instead of a lap guitar, spare change instead of a shaker, in another video a guy smacking a suitcase instead of a bass drum

Words In Fire Put your words into the fire Watch them burn your heart's desires Rise up in the air In a cloud of silk and smoke and dust Fade into the night It's a comforting feeling with you at my side Let me shake your honest hands And I'll sit down beside you know Lean our heavy heads Of the weight of the things that are left unsaid Don't worry about it now 'Cause in the morning they will all just be ashes on the ground So what's been on your mind Eating you inside Taking all of your time On this warm summer night Put your words down in the fire When we were down at sandy beach Old man talking in young man's words Tell me where you would like to be Tonight, don't be afraid to dream Lean on the fire for a while 'Cause in the morning it will all just be ashes on the ground So what's been on your mind Eating you inside Taking all of your time On this warm summer night Put those words down in the fire
Does anyone know how he's getting that feedback/distortion with the microphone? it looks like he is using a boss digital delay (maybe a 5 or 7?) and using the stereo outputs into those tiny amps. is the feedback coming from the pedal? or the amps facing each other?
There's no stereo setup on what looks like a DD-5 or 6, other amp is for the acoustic, he just has the little amp loud and those things distort very easily. It's just a consequence of a small amp/speaker and overloaded input. Honestly I think the opening song sounds awful, even though I love the song.
It's a Boss DD-3 and it's distorting because the speaker or amp (do not remember what his voice was coming out of on this session) can't handle the gain. I'm sure of this, as I was standing beside him playing guitar.
Went to his concert in Philly in 2023 and he was nuts. The music was beautiful. He makes everything up as he goes and conducts the entire band. It was beautiful
These are actually fairly similar to the album versions compared to how much he changes other songs in live performances. But still, fantastic. :) One of my favourite artists for sure.
It is the right to free speech and expression that allows this band to exist. But If you dont agree with a comment then you remove it? It is the responsibility of all people to uphold our values and freedoms as laid out in the Bill of human rights Dont be self righteous and destroy freedom please
God damn it, I was writing fast....seriously....mistake....As well, I'm a musical fanatic and kept getting Patrick WATSON confused with Patrick WILSON (who plays Raoul in the 2004 movie).

He's something else. What a great story.
that's so cool
That's so wholesome
that would be something I would also never forget
Thanks for sharing

Patrick Watson - Vocals
Simon Angell - Acoustic Guitar
Mishka Stein - Electric Guitar
Mélanie Bélair - Violin

The most underrated singer of all time
Let him be our little secret
Am telling you...
Agree
Yes, it’s so scary
The world isn't quite as awful when I listen to this
Aarti Vasudevan sike
Saw him live tonight in Toronto and life felt normal for a few hours. His music is like a hug. Intimate and majestic. What a treasure of a human.
La vie m'a semblé normal quelques heures \• Trésor humain
I seem to cry a lot when I watch Patrick Watson's performances on RUclips...and I'm a GROWN ASS MAN!
Cartiear Madlock ass men are deserving of a good cry every so often no matter how grown! ;D
I saw him last week and there was a girl crying. Your not alone!
One of the most amazing concerts and displays of musicianship I've ever seen... him and his band.
Just like cloudy with a chance of meatballs it's anoth to make a grown man cry
It’s got nothing to do with being a man lol. You cry when you cry, it’s human.
i love you for this
doesnt he have one of the most beautiful, soft and controlled voices in contemporary indie / folk?? can't believe no one else is commenting on that. i love his voice!
I've seen Emmy award winners play music but never an Emmy award player
I want to go to a campfire party with Patrick Watson omg
I really am always amazed at the beautiful and haunting sound that you can get out of something as strange and as mundane as a saw.
One microphone for all this magic?? This is a TRUE Tiny Concert
When they played in SXSW they had the audience go silent, because they were doing almost everything acoustic on one mic. It was really good.
I can't believe I just discovered Patrick Watson this year in 2023 😲😳. This man is talented, never heard an artist like him.
me too and thanks to my daughter, I'm 54 and my baby 10, she's teaching me music unbelievable!!🙄
The workers who do this are so lucky to hear so many different bands and musicians right in front of them
Like I’ll never get to listen to even half of what they have
here 9 years later. still beautiful
Thats Got to be the most creative session on tiny desk concert
i saw the band live twice in Minneapolis. Never heard such a great band live!
Wow, this is incredible...The saw is just mesmerizing.
It came from the 80's Québec comic group Les Foubrac... ruclips.net/video/YoGMVdjU9B4/видео.html
I agree with you. It's one of the most unusual and original live performances I've seen, who sounds quite like this? Brilliant!
Does someone else keep coming here to feel alive?
Time line:
0:00 : Adventures In Your Own Backyard
5:10 : Words In The Fire
9:06 : Into Giants

Piker. I suspect that I'm on number 50, here. :)

I saw him in concert last year just a few days before the first lockdown, it was a magical experience!
@@joybesseling7486 you are such a lucky person
@@joybesseling7486 Where did you see him? I saw him in San Francisco in early 2020.
Someone needs to give the man a guitar
He's a great pianist, just by the way :) Listen to his "Great Escape" song....no turning back then :)
Graham Werner I love how he moves to the music - like he is channeling his energy not only through his voice. He is beautiful to listen to and to watch.
Love that too ... musical genius
El esta tocando otro instrumento , su alma .
Such a lovely version of Into Giants in this setting! Kudos from Canada for this!

This is pure love for your ears...
God dammit Patrick, what are you doing with my emotions? I fucking love this man, and the whole band...
Patrick Watson is kind of hot, I guess.
I love him - he sings like an angel! I love all the voices at 2:46. I love his smile and laugh at 9:17. I love how he is still wearing 3 concert bracelets.
I love at @13:35: "You want to get in on this reverb? Yeah get in on this."

Through tall green grass, and into the world
Ain't it feel right

Twelve steps in to your own backyard
Twelve steps in to your own backyard

Psychoanalytical87 Great Big Sea , Metric Arcade Fire, Coeur de Pirate, Great Lake Swimmers shall I go on
Psychoanalytical87 I'd add Dan Mangan + Blacksmith and Arcade Fire to that list.

he makes the best singing faces
Wowwww merci mr Watson!!!
Good god I love him...
Words in the fire is so dope.....

Words In Fire
Put your words into the fire
Watch them burn your heart's desires
Rise up in the air
In a cloud of silk and smoke and dust
Fade into the night
It's a comforting feeling with you at my side
Let me shake your honest hands
And I'll sit down beside you know
Lean our heavy heads
Of the weight of the things that are left unsaid
Don't worry about it now
'Cause in the morning they will all just be ashes on the ground
So what's been on your mind
Eating you inside
Taking all of your time
On this warm summer night
Put your words down in the fire
When we were down at sandy beach
Old man talking in young man's words
Tell me where you would like to be
Tonight, don't be afraid to dream
Lean on the fire for a while
'Cause in the morning it will all just be ashes on the ground
So what's been on your mind
Eating you inside
Taking all of your time
On this warm summer night
Put those words down in the fire

This is one of the most amazing displays of talent and musical genius I’ve ever seen. Just....wow!
Quando a pessoa sente a música é outro nível! Nossa o patrick é demais 🤧💜
This is hauntingly good music...the voice of the girl and the guy in harmony with that crazy effect sounds so beautiful to me.
No other video on youtube have I rewatched so many times. Beguiling set.

My bestest! ♥
That's a wonderful story.

Imagine a Coldplay and Patrick Watson collab

pat tuman yeah I'm wondering if the mics just couldn't handle the amount of reverb coming out

Phenomenal 💕💕💕
So good.
God, he always has the best musicians. All the different colors that they pull out in a live performance...it's incredible.
It's funny that people are haterS are going to hate, when in reality it is a hater that is going to hate and his name is sirRandyTooth
This is some interesting music, right here~ Felt like I was listening to film score from the get-go.
Playing violin on a saw o_o These guys are talented :x
I still haven't seen you down at Sandy Beach for a while!
I love how he barely opened his eyes during Adventures into Your Own Backyard
Went to his concert in Philly in 2023 and he was nuts. The music was beautiful. He makes everything up as he goes and conducts the entire band. It was beautiful
Put this on to listen to while I did something else... Didn't get to that other thing til 15 minutes later
I think I’m in love.
I’ve lost track of how many times I’ve come back & rewatched this over the years. So incredible, so gutting ..
I love watching musicians who clearly FEEL the music. On another plane.
These are actually fairly similar to the album versions compared to how much he changes other songs in live performances. But still, fantastic. :) One of my favourite artists for sure.

Wonder if Shakey Graves knows he has a brother in Canada?
Thought the exact same! They're very complimentary too, folk rocky shakey and french indie vibes for patrick
Such a great artists, it's an amazing feeling just listen to them, Patrick has the most beautiful voice ever.
Hey friend its me Patrick Watson you're welcome to my world 🌎 of friendship.I really appreciate you for supporting my music 💋💋.
They get paid for this right? Answer my question or i will poop your pants!
is he playing a fucking saw haha awesome
Quite similar to the low anthem perhaps! With the saw and everything. Reminds me a bit of Ben Knox Miller too.
