Recently got my son a ps5 for Christmas and started playing Astro bot, the last of us and finally finishing kingdom hearts 3. This made me realize how the last few years of just pc gaming I missed just chilling on the couch relaxing playing a good game
The Horizon games are such a strange one for me... everything about the lore, the world, the graphics and the robots are so so cool to me... but when I look back on my time playing them, I feel the same fatigue I felt whilst playing them. There is just something missing from those games - I found it really hard to care or find any of the characters interesting, which made the quests and story fall flat.... I also think as much as the combat is intense and fun, its often a little tedious / annoying
I find it interesting how peoples taste is. I beat the first horizon and forgot about it like a week later. Ill never play it again 😂. I loved the combat though
YO this is the most spot on description ever. This is PRECISELY how I feel, down to a T. I love this universe and HZD was amazing as was FW in some ways, but I just... there's weird things that drag it down
There's no incentive to actually explore the world because the game uses the Ubisoft style put-everything-of-value-on-the-map approach. You never have genuine discoveries like in Elden Ring or Breath of the Wild. The dialogue is also pretty bad a lot of the time. The lore is great, but the actual storytelling for the present-day story is not good at all. Especially in Zero Dawn, which has some of the worst facial animations and NPC line delivery I've seen in a modern AAA game. FW was better in the animation department at least.
I really like The Horizon games. It's definitely one of my favorite franchises ever. Never really understood people who couldn't get into Horizon or calling it mid for some reason. I found the games to be so good. I had such a good time with both games. I usually play the Horizon games very slow and methodical taking my time with the games and really appreciating the world and atmosphere. I personally think the Horizon franchise has one of the most unique and intresting sci-fi stories out there.
I don't know if you've tried it, but Kena Bridge of Spirits is a really good game. It was one of the first games I got on my PS5, and it was unexpectedly a masterpiece.
Finally got around to playing mother 3 in January and it deserves all the hype it gets. Definitely teared up at the end. Playing pikmin 4 right now and something about that game scratches an itch in my brain in a good way
I've been playing Okami which is a nice change of pace from the long rpgs I'm used to playing. I also never finished the game back when it game out for the PS2. So it feels pretty good to be going through the story again with the prospect of seeing how the story plays out.
I try and break up my long open world RPGs with shorter gamier games. Just this month I’ve been breaking up cyberpunk with both ninja gaiden II black and evil west, both of which I hugely reccomend!
I’ve been super gun shy when it comes to starting larger games lately. My backlog is full of amazing AAA games like Baldur’s Gate 3, but instead I’ve been drawn towards smaller, gameplay driven games. I’ve been bouncing around with a different game almost daily and enjoying that, but have that constant voice in the back of my head yelling at me to at least try one of the bigger games I’ve already spent my money on.
I played Sayonara Wild Hearts a while back and it's a really fun experience. It's nice to just play through once in a while for the good music and visuals, and you can do it all in one sitting. I've put a lot of analysis into the kinds of games I enjoy and I've found that I don't really go for long, impactful stories myself. I always tend to get distracted or frustrated like 15 hours in and I end up playing something else. I leave those types of games to watching streamers or let's plays. The games I love most tend to be short, arcadey types that you play in one sitting like Tetris Effect, Dorfromantik, Against the Storm, Roguelikes, Slay the Spire, Balatro... or huge open ended sandboxes where you make your own path, like No Man's Sky, Dwarf Fortress, Rimworld, or Breath of the Wild... but nothing in between, lol.
been going through longer ones on ps5 also lately. I have Pathless on PS5 lately as my chill indy laid back game just to put in 10-30 mins and mess around a bit, feels less bogged down than the big ones Im working through. Im barely scratching the story just have some fun with the movement and messing around.
I got the platinum in Zero Dawn despite Aloy and the whole gang not really being compelling characters. The action drove me through. But when I got to Forbidden West, I just got bored and game up after about 20 hours and I don't see myself going back
I beat Dishonored in January and I am upset it took me this long to get into it. Because it is legitimately a fantastic stealth game with such an expansive sandbox for how to approach every mission. It legitimately kickstarted a new stealth game kick for me. Although now I'm attempting to playthrough Watch Dogs 1
Nicolas Doucet (team asobi) respond to a comment about a mario kart version of astro .. I think we will see more and more genre of astro games in the future !
Last few months I’ve gone back to play knack 2, vampyr, guardians of the galaxy, and now Alan wake 2. Knack 2 was surprisingly fun and challenging, vampyr had interesting mechanics that changed the story and world, guardians had an amazing story and its use of the marvel universe with obscure references and cameos was fun, and Alan wake so far is intriguing and I love remedy’s art direction but the story’s a ball of mystery so far. I’ve gotten tired of live service games so jumping into single player reminds me of when I was a kid ingratiating myself in these worlds and coming out the other end enjoying myself. Media that starts and ends seems rare nowadays.
Bought Elden Ring when it furst came out and put like 2 hours into it not knowing what to do and put it away. I just got into it last week and im already 40 hours in and its such an amazing piece of art.
I feel your disappointment on forbidden west so hard. I pre ordered the collectors edition after I saw the state of play on it. I knew my little sister would enjoy it as well, Seeing as she platinumed zero dawn on my PS4 while i was gone at work. (this is back when I lived with my parents) me and her did not get far in the game before, we decided that it just wasn’t it. The statue was cool though.
January's been a very busy month for me so I've really only been replaying RDR2 to wind down, but this February I'm looking forward to Civ VII. I also picked up AC3 and Legend of Dragoon on PS3 with the intent to get through both during quiet spells. Dynasty Warriors Origins sounded fun last month, so I'll likely wait for that to go on sale later this year.
Not PlayStation but exclusive, but if you haven’t already check out Inside, Cocoon. Shorter games that I couldn’t put down. Also don’t know if you’d be interested in Returnal
Haven't been able to play all that much last month, but I've been slowly going through the older Ratchet & Clank games (on PS3), and they've all been great so far I've also gotten into Falcom's Ys action-RPG series and got hooked, they're like, this very "video-gamey" type of RPG that seems to focus on fun gameplay over story (even though the story is also great), would definitely recommend checking this series out Also, it's been a while since I played them, but I'd also recommend Kena: Bridge of Spirits and the Gravity Rush games on PS5
I feel the same way about these overly long games. But at the same time it's a weird feeling. I've been playing a lot of action games like bayonetta, vanquish, stuff like that. And also a lot of games like Sly Cooper etc. But also longer games, kind of? For example I'm playing final fantasy X for the first time and I know the game has a ton of hours you can sink into it but it's so fun and I'm smiling each time I boot it up. I think I have just changed as a gamer and I'm finding different games to bring something out of me now. I ditched multiplayer a long time ago so I'm not really focused on that aspect anymore as well.
@@BBKDRAGOON interesting pick for your fave. I think it’s time you whip up a retrospective look at ffx and why you enjoyed it so much. That would be great. Keep up the great work.
Funnily enough, I just restarted my Forbidden West play through. I am going about it differently though. I always enjoyed getting surprised in BoTW and Tears of the Kingdom when I came across something unexpectedly. That’s why I’m turning off a lot of the map icons on this play through to not feel pressured into going into them; more so I want to come across them more naturally than constantly following map icons. Haven’t been able to go through much of the game yet because of school, but I’m excited to see how it feels.

Just finished the first Hellblade game, and played through devil may cry 5, both relatively short and super unique!

@@ZGuy115 Some tips, there is a wepon swap in the menu that allows you to quickly swap to the previous weapon you had it makes it a lot better. Smoke bombs are really useful if you feel overwhelmed or want to get out of sight, finding the machines elemental weakness can be really useful, it makes it a lot easier for heavy damage, focusing shoots on legs can build up knockout damage overtime and rolling or sliding towards the enemy can be more effective sometimes to avoid getting hit.
Please go play Everhood Dragoon. Its been in my top 5 ever since I played it. Undertale but guitar hero, and it confirms one of my favorite cognitive biases. (Its also very short)
I just finished Indiana Jones about a week ago and started on Final Fantasy 16. I really really liked Indiana Jones...until the final fight which annoyed me, and so far I'm loving FF16. It's so over the top epic in every way and has really nice combat. I've also played a little Assassin's Creed 2 on the Switch, and a little Kingdom Hearts 3 and Octopath Traveler. Those are just used as pallet cleansers mostly, with FF16 being my "main" game. Last year I finished 15 games, this year I'm keeping my goal at 12. Some will have to be short though.
Congrats at knocking out so many games last year, that's awesome and let me know how you like ff16. I'm a lifelong FF fan, but 16 I haven't gotten around to yet, still on the fence. Great recommendations and thanks!
Yeah forbidden west wasn’t great. The story was weak. Gameplay was good but the same as the first one, which is infinitely better. And yes it was too long. To clear 100% it took me 120+ hours. Wild hearts is absolutely fantastic. I discovered that one a few years back.

Second😂 just in time for lunch!🎉
Enjoy lunch and thanks!
First, let's go!
Cheers, thank you!
Oh my gosh I also played HZD FW and R&C and I’m so happy I did. What wonderful experiences 🥹
