  • Just finished a very deep review of the brand new BenQ PD2725U professional designer monitor. In this video, I talk about how I use this monitor for editing and VFX, go over factory calibrations, test the average delta of all the colour profiles, check out the new HDR400, discuss 10-bit vs 8-bit + FCR, talk about reference video, specs, and much more. It's a very detailed review from a professional point of the video. Chapters are available on the video for quick navigation. Enjoy and consider subscribing, leaving a comment and sharing this video.

    Just orderered one, it started great but after one day it started to flicker like crazy, and I did not find a way yet to stop doing it. There are a few online threads discussing it with various suggestions for fixing - neither worked for me so it is going back.

    Hugo, great video as always. I was curious what you thought of the "Editors Keys" keyboard on your desk. Do you recommend it? How is the build quality? Ever use any logic keyboards? If so, how does it compare?

      I like them a lot but they are a bit soft. They don’t have very deep keys. I still prefer them because of the backlight. It’s great for grading sessions with a dark room

    Oh man, I want software color control. Great review. The BenQ PD3220u can daisy chain but you need to use a USBc to HDMI adapter. For laptops, i use that as it plugs into my displays + receiver + charges my laptop. Also in typical Amazon BS has the PD3220 listed as the 31.5in option for the PD2725U. I wonder if there's a 31.5 inch planned?

    Hey - thanks for the great review!
    I've got one question that I'd love to see if you could get an answer to - does the TB hub work as a true TB hub, or only for TB daisy chaining to another screen?
    I'd like to plug other TB peripherals into the monitor, i.e. Laptop -> PD2725U -> TB-SSD / TB Dock / TB audio capture device etc.
    If I can do this then I could have a desk in the middle of the room and hide all my electronics boxes in a cupboard out of sight.
    Hoping you're able to test! Cheers :)

    Still torn between this or the much more expensive Apple studio display to pair with my 2022 Macbook pro. I do mainly graphic and screendesign. As someone who's been working behind 27" 5k Imacs for the past 5 years, I find it hard to imagine dealing with 4k on a 27" display

    So ...
    What's the DCI-P3 coverage ?
    What's the AdobeRGB coverage ?
    What's the EXACT contrast ratio (and does it change per brightness) ?
    What's the brightness of the monitor in nits (20% 40% 60% 80% 100%) ?
    Sadly , this is the only professional monitor review that actually covers most aspects of the professional monitor .

    • @HugosDesk
      @HugosDesk  2 года назад

      This monitor does not have an AdobeRGB profile so I did not cover it. Regarding DCI-P3 according to BenQ it only says: 100% Rec.709 ,100% sRGB ,95% P3. Not sure if they mean Display P3 or DCI-P3. Regardless I would get hardware calibrated monitor if you need DCI-P3 so you can control the profiles in a better way. Regarding your other questions, I did not cover that. I will do that in my next videos. Thanks for watching

    • @chedinbuildsstudio5144

      @@HugosDesk Oh , when I meant AdobeRGB coverage , I mean percentage in standard mode .

    • @chedinbuildsstudio5144
      @chedinbuildsstudio5144 2 года назад +1

      @@HugosDesk I'm also not sure , but so far , whenever a monitor states P3 , they always meant DCI-P3 .
      And wait , since this is not a hardware calibrated monitor , this means cannot measure exact coverage ?

    • @HugosDesk
      @HugosDesk  2 года назад

      @@chedinbuildsstudio5144 Well it's possible with Calman but I did not do that on this review because I had limited time to make the review. But yes this is not hardware calibrated. Fo that I would recommend the SW321c.

    Thanks for a great and informative video Hugo. I'm a starting colorist with couple of decent jobs behind me and looking for an upgrade on my main monitor, I've found your channel.
    I'd like your input on couple of screens since I have a hard time picking the right one for my use case. Mainly I'm looking at BenQ SW271 and PD2725U you review here. Do you think there's a big difference between these screens for colorists? Or is the main difference the HW calibration? I'm also looking at EIZO CS2740, as a "true" 10bit panel, but my wallet would be happier without spending that much. Or do you think it might be worth it as a long term investment? Any input would be much appreciated.

    • @Trylobit
      @Trylobit 2 года назад

      What have you decided to gofor? I'm having the same dilemma SW271 or PD2725U. I'm leaning towards PD2725U, but I'm a bit conserned that the Display Pilot is not working on M1 Macs...

    • @SmolikDavidColor
      @SmolikDavidColor 2 года назад

      @@Trylobit I've actually went for HP Z27k G3 4K. It has the same backlight uniformity but slightly worse color uniformity as the SW271. I wanted the Z27xs G3 4K, but here it's out of stock everywhere. I'm really happy with my choice, the screen is actually really good after slight calibration.
      I decided not to go the middle road for the BenQ's and save up to later get the EIZO CS2740. It's a totally different league.

    My gamma,color gamut, hue, saturation is greyed out in factory stock settings so is there a way to use those options pr am I missing something.

    Hi, could someone explain about the mac compatibility ?
    I seem to understand that if you are using an HDMI connection out of a (recent) mac (through a usbc to hdmi adapter cable), you will be stuck at 30Hz 4K on the PD2700U, but will get the 60Hz 4K if using the thunderbolt usbc connection directly on the PD2725U. Did I understand this correctly ? Is it hdmi version mismatch between what comes out of the mac ? I'm trying to reach some rational understanding here... as the PD2725U is twice the price of the PD2700U.

    • @HugosDesk
      @HugosDesk  2 года назад

      HDMI 2.0 only supports 4K up to 30Hz so it’s a HDMI limit from the Mac and the display. Using Thunderbolt will solve this issue since Thunderbolt and Display Port has more bandwidth than HDMI 2.0
