    Those drones are truely terrifying.
Some seven years ago I was in an extra exercise with my regional defence forces. The opposing force had drones with them. You could hear the tiny motors from those drones quite far away, so you could try and hide from them. Lask week we had an exercise and once again the op-for had drones, this time you simply could not hear them. The guy who operated the drone, gave us a demostration of the drones capabilities. He was able to fly it around 15-20 meters above our heads before we were able to hear the rotors. The leaps technology has taken in just few years is baffling.
On a cloudy day, no change in hell you'll see it in the sky when flying low.
Truely fucking terrifying in reconnaissance purposes.
Edit: Some spelling erros. And adding ->
The drones used by Op-For, were commercially available. Nothing fancy. Just out of the shelf stuff. We could see our camp site in detail, after the exercise.

    • @cryora
      @cryora 2 года назад +5

It makes sense because consumer drones have to have good cameras and not be loud af to be attractive to buyers. A drone customer isn't going to want a flying lawn mower causing problems with his neighbors or attracting too much attention when out in public. It is just advancements driven my market forces.
"Exercises" merely there to demonstrate drone capabilities are retarded imo. Instead they should be coming up with ways to counter them, and testing their effectiveness. Then again it's like trying to come up with a counter against attack helicopters that can target you a mile away.

@@elmerjfapp5730 yeah this dude is probably stolen valor, just some basic POG in the army. They can track small targets in the air space, radio signals from the controller, incoming sensor reception etc. it’s also a networked node so it has a form of Mac-Address tracking. You can track drones mobile (on-the-move) and designate precise 10-digit grids of where the source is to apply indirect fire or other assets as we saw in the video you referred to.
This is even capable on an amateur / hobbyist level. As far as shooting down the drones as the news said was supposedly difficult, there are so many specifically purposed rounds and weapons tactics for that (available to civilians)… you’d have to be a gamer to not know. Lol.

The reality was these women were transporting brand new drones into the country because they had the freedom to come and go as they pleased. They interviewed one girl and she said "we're not married, have no kids, we want to help". This is so bizarre seeing people talk about killing like this...war is something that I understand but that doesn't mean you have to enjoy it. It's a different world so it's not seen the same way I'm seeing it by the soldiers and civilians who have lost so much because of the other side....UGH! That's not what Ukraine is doing though. What they are doing is using small, cheap, drones, with hand held base stations, in the field, to devastating effect.
It's one thing to use a $15 million drone with $100k of smart munitions to take out one or two bad guys and maybe a tank, but it's not scalable, it's not the close air support infantry need. It's completely different to using a $2k drone and couple of $50 anti-tank grenades to blow up the tank which is waiting for around the corner (like Ukraine has been doing with their R-18 drones and ancient 1950s era anti-tank grenades).
And they've basically done that in a few months, they've figured out how to do it at scale and sustainably.
It used to be that loud noises and bangs were what triggered a soldier's PTSD, but i'm betting a fair few russian "soldiers" are going to get triggered whenever they hear a quadcopter...

If you can fly a plane in a video game you can fly a drone. The same goes for most modern tanks and missile systems. Anything that uses a screen to view what is happening is very similar to a video game. The American tank crews do a lot of simulator training and a simulator is just a video game. The gamers of the world can become very valuable for a modern military, video games can create quicker reflexes and target acquisition, it does depend on the game itself but there are a lot of games that are based on real life equipment and environmental factors. Unmanned military vehicles are the best option for smaller countries that don't have the population for a conventional military. As the technology improves and it is improving at a very fast rate a conventional military will be at a disadvantage compared to a military that is made up of Unmanned vehicles. I am an old school gamer and have seen the advancement of games and computers as well as the advancement of military weapons and tactics, from what I have seen over the past 40 years modern warfare must adapt to include a majority of Unmanned vehicles.

DJI has drones with “remote ID” to allow tracking and identification by authorities like the FAA. I believe it’s Wi-Fi based, so the Russians were probably as close to the drone as the operator in this case.
I don’t know that they specifically gave Russia the software as it is used in the US, France, etc. Ukrainians better fly the drones without this capability, like the Mini series, or turn it off it off. I don’t own the bigger drones, but I think it can be turned off until 2023 (that’s when it becomes mandatory in the US for drones weighing over 250g).

It depends, the critics are going after peeps who spend way too much time vs productive members of society. Those who become detached can be a problem. I knew someone who troubleshoots games & he works from home and does well. AI will lead the way so deep thinking computers will fly drones, run robots and so on too. So gamers can be part of that too.

I've been gaming 40+ years, so I'm more of a gamer than those guys. And there is nothing - nothing - 'fun' about what they're doing. They're killing Russians, wiping out lives. Yes, it's good in the bigger picture if they can defeat Russia, and beat back Putin's forces - but there's nothing 'fun' in killing people, even an enemy. This needs to be done - but as vile as some of the Russians have been, who nobody will shed any tears over their deaths, you'd have to be a sick person to find 'fun' in killing strangers, and destroying their mothers' hearts. It needs to be done. Russia must be defeated in their hideous war. But finding killing an enemy to be 'fun' is something only a psychopath would say - I hope the Ukrainians win, but they must also be held accountable for anything they do on their path to victory.

These people are well versed in finding effective solutions in a very short amount of time and also we are very good at finding the enemy on the screen. All good but they run the risk of capture. Not only that, they are likely to be treated as snipers tend to be treated - very badly or even shot out of hand. They aren't trained soldiers. They are good at playing at war but they know nothing about it in real life. I don't doubt their ability but my concern would be them getting caught. Not to mention the long-term effects to them as people and what helping to take human life entails.
If they are actually categorised as military and are in uniform that will offer some protection but one wonders if they realise what they have gotten themselves involved with.
