Those drones are truely terrifying. Some seven years ago I was in an extra exercise with my regional defence forces. The opposing force had drones with them. You could hear the tiny motors from those drones quite far away, so you could try and hide from them. Lask week we had an exercise and once again the op-for had drones, this time you simply could not hear them. The guy who operated the drone, gave us a demostration of the drones capabilities. He was able to fly it around 15-20 meters above our heads before we were able to hear the rotors. The leaps technology has taken in just few years is baffling. On a cloudy day, no change in hell you'll see it in the sky when flying low. Truely fucking terrifying in reconnaissance purposes. Edit: Some spelling erros. And adding -> The drones used by Op-For, were commercially available. Nothing fancy. Just out of the shelf stuff. We could see our camp site in detail, after the exercise.
It makes sense because consumer drones have to have good cameras and not be loud af to be attractive to buyers. A drone customer isn't going to want a flying lawn mower causing problems with his neighbors or attracting too much attention when out in public. It is just advancements driven my market forces. "Exercises" merely there to demonstrate drone capabilities are retarded imo. Instead they should be coming up with ways to counter them, and testing their effectiveness. Then again it's like trying to come up with a counter against attack helicopters that can target you a mile away.
@@cryora Oh no, the demonstration was after the exercise. He came to us and asked if we wanted to see what it could do. They would have had those drones either way.
They've developed a rotor for the navy that reduces the noice of the wash produced by ships propeller, so it's harder to pick up on sonar. Air is just _reeeeally_ thin water, so it's just a matter of time before you see that drone with quite motors and a silent "- woosh -" for a wash...

They are flying drones that they know the enemy can track. They're not doing it because they're stupid. They're doing it because they don't have good alternatives, and because they've developed operational procedures to minimize the risks of being tracked. It's not mentioned in this video, but I'm sure Ukraine is also using Russian-trackable drones to feed Russia useful disinformation. That's adaptability, apparently a rare trait on the Russian side.
Oh, they've got choices, they've been using a wide range of drones, from Turkish high tech stuff at $1-2M/ea. depending on configuration, acquired before the war, to home build octacopters (~$2,000 worth of kit ea.) effectively dropping tank killing grenades on heavy Russian equipment. The Ukrainian use of drones for everything from collecting battlefield intel to much more offensive capabilities has really stood out in this war.

It's truly scary how drones have become such a huge part of warfare. You can't hide from them and it's really hard to counter them because even the most expensive commercial drones are dirt cheap in comparison to everything else militaries spend cash on. Future of warfare is electronic and soon manpower (except the operators) will become obsolete as everything turns electronic and even autonomoys robots are being developed. Future wars will most likely be decided who has the most cash to spend on electronics and explosives
As former Marine forward observer, I can't even imagine my job with the use of drones. I have a good sense that my knees and my back wouldn't be so messed up right now. Glad that the drones are leveling the playing field at least.

Don't exaggerate. They used a new, cheap technology to wage asymmetrical warfare against a superior military. This is a new development in warfare and as soon as other countries adopt to this new reality, Ukraine will not be noteworthy again, aside from the fact that they were to first to utilise commercial drones. It's one thing to use a $15 million drone with $100k of smart munitions to take out one or two bad guys and maybe a tank, but it's not scalable, it's not the close air support infantry need. It's completely different to using a $2k drone and couple of $50 anti-tank grenades to blow up the tank which is waiting for around the corner (like Ukraine has been doing with their R-18 drones and ancient 1950s era anti-tank grenades). And they've basically done that in a few months, they've figured out how to do it at scale and sustainably. A drone operator per platoon, most certainly something every military would benefit from, especially if they can get something like thermal vision too.
Ukrainian programmers created an app on how to most effectively use artillery and other weapons for effective destruction of an enemy. The most optimal position is calculated very fast for a precision attack.
i was wondering, how the heck are they able to use commercial drones to spot the targets and then follow through with such amazingly high precision military strikes . Now i know.
If you can fly a plane in a video game you can fly a drone. The same goes for most modern tanks and missile systems. Anything that uses a screen to view what is happening is very similar to a video game. The American tank crews do a lot of simulator training and a simulator is just a video game. The gamers of the world can become very valuable for a modern military, video games can create quicker reflexes and target acquisition, it does depend on the game itself but there are a lot of games that are based on real life equipment and environmental factors. Unmanned military vehicles are the best option for smaller countries that don't have the population for a conventional military. As the technology improves and it is improving at a very fast rate a conventional military will be at a disadvantage compared to a military that is made up of Unmanned vehicles. I am an old school gamer and have seen the advancement of games and computers as well as the advancement of military weapons and tactics, from what I have seen over the past 40 years modern warfare must adapt to include a majority of Unmanned vehicles.
They've been designing some of these systems and their controls to mimic video games for this reason. Why wasted a solid decade of training that their recruits have been honing since they were young children!

DJI its not US company ,its "private" Chines company ,so what do you expect, and they keep claiming they don't share any information with Chinese government ....yeah right.
DJI has drones with “remote ID” to allow tracking and identification by authorities like the FAA. I believe it’s Wi-Fi based, so the Russians were probably as close to the drone as the operator in this case. I don’t know that they specifically gave Russia the software as it is used in the US, France, etc. Ukrainians better fly the drones without this capability, like the Mini series, or turn it off it off. I don’t own the bigger drones, but I think it can be turned off until 2023 (that’s when it becomes mandatory in the US for drones weighing over 250g).

And adding ->
The drones used by Op-For, were commercially available.
Thanks for this. Good comment

Ukraine has pushed the boundaries of drone use massively. They may well be world leaders in Drone warfare now.
The US has been using Cessna-sized drones for decades now and so has Israel.
The reality is Ukraine has shown the greatest courage which the world has learnt from.
Ukraine do not need a ride but every courage to stand their ground. (Not even USA could say that)
Europe needed Russian Gas and Oil to survive BUT short sighted at what FREEDOM could bring to them.
Ukraine has been inspiration to every nations except the DUMB ONES.
The Drone Swarm will be next..
@@generalripper7528 Right, big, expensive, insanely long range HALE and MALE UCAVs have been done to hell and back and they've been... very effective lets say. That's not what Ukraine is doing though. What they are doing is using small, cheap, drones, with hand held base stations, in the field, to devastating effect.
It used to be that loud noises and bangs were what triggered a soldier's PTSD, but i'm betting a fair few russian "soldiers" are going to get triggered whenever they hear a quadcopter...

wonlt make any difference what brand they use if its off the shelf and even systems with military grade encryption are vunenrable ..
they are designed to return to where they were laiuched if theres an interruption to the control signal (if they don;lt have that ability they just drop to the ground or the controllerjust looses control and it will carry on till out of fuel)..
electronic jamming will force it to return home if it has an auto return mode ...
the newer switchblades the US is sending have limitations too, but they are designed to destroy themselves by launching at a target
, so it will be interesting to see how they perform
A drone operator per platoon, most certainly something every military would benefit from, especially if they can get something like thermal vision too.
Agree. Soldiers who can fly drones will be a standard part of a military group from now on.
Most have them available at this point
As long they're NOT Chinese made. They're watching this covertly for their benefit.
I believe the US Marine Corps is seriously considering adding one more to the squad sized element for this very purpose.
usa is already using these... undercover. pretty sad though as many civilians get killed for no reason...
Ukrainian programmers created an app on how to most effectively use artillery and other weapons for effective destruction of an enemy. The most optimal position is calculated very fast for a precision attack.

You're not. It's called propaganda

Many tech nerds (your term) are also gamers. If tech nerds are best at making drones, gamers will be the most skilled pilots, as many of them have experience with the controls used to fly them. The drones the guy in this vid is talking about have been made in China and the United States, so I'm not sure what you're even correcting anyone about. Are the labels really that big a deal?

I wonder what DJI has to say about this? They are by far the largest drone company in the US. They sell drones for the average person, commercial drones for industry, and even drones for public services like fire/police departments
That company is dangerous 😂 lol even drones you own can be track by Chinese 😂 US should sanctions DJI
Yep, all of whom having been mapping out the US in 3D for them. The thing is, they've never made a secret of the fact that all the data is fed back into their servers in China. Every one of their customers have paid for the privilege.

Yes, it's good in the bigger picture if they can defeat Russia, and beat back Putin's forces - but there's nothing 'fun' in killing people, even an enemy. This needs to be done - but as vile as some of the Russians have been, who nobody will shed any tears over their deaths, you'd have to be a sick person to find 'fun' in killing strangers, and destroying their mothers' hearts. It needs to be done. Russia must be defeated in their hideous war.
