  • With today's market, and the confusion about film cameras, getting into a point & shoot film camera, especially for someone who isn't well-versed with film, can be quite challenging. From the confusing outlets for purchasing, to inflated camera models, and potential killer thrift store finds, there are a lot of things needed to know when looking into cameras and ways to acquire them. Varying in lens focal length, size, portability, and price range, I go over my top, cheap, 35mm, film point and shoots that are AFFORDABLE but still give great function and use in today's inflated market. Let me know in the comments, which film point and shoots you started on, and if I missed any noteworthy cameras! Enjoy!

Thank you to the wonderful RUclips Film Community, Reddit.com/analog, and Lomography's Gallery for providing great BRoll and photos for cameras that I sadly do not own and cannot film myself. Without my detail orientated peers, this video would have been considerably more boring

The Ricoh FF90 is great and unique in that you can manually set the iso to non DX coded film. This works great if you bulk roll film. Also the Pentax pc35af is a great camera, and can be had for cheap, what I like about it is that it has a manual wind and rewind knobs, less things to break. Ive brought a handful back to life as they were considered "broken" but the fixes were simple. Both high recommend cameras IMO.

I am a professional resseller of sencond hand photography equipment. So here are my two pro tips: Do not buy a camera that has a roll of film in it. Chances that this camera was owned by Vivian Maier or some one like her are very slim. On the other hand, it is very propoble that the previous owner stopped using the camera because it stopped working. Films are and were expensive, so noone was happy waisting it. Second tip: Try to go for a model with a lens that open at 2.8 or more. These camera were usualy more expensive, build for better results rather than for being the cheapest one.

Excellent informative video! The Ricoh FF9 (FF7) also has a double exposure button for added fun - a pretty rare feature for a point and shoot.

Hello!! I am about to buy one based on what you wrote here, I can't find anything about it having that button online. I just want to make sure. I own the FF3 now. I need double exposure in my life. So I need the FF9 or FF7 for sure? haha. Sorry for my annoyingness.

I would love to see a guide on how to buy used point and shoot cameras! Whether it be on ebay or thrifting, I'd love to know what to look out for and/or ones you've seen on the market that are affordable.

Although it's not sexy, I like the Canon Sure Shot Z115. I've had it a couple of months and I love it! I put a roll of Cat Labs 320 and the shots were quite lovely. The camera was about $50.

I have a Fujifilm Zoom Date 90s. Focal length of 38-90mm. Maximum aperture of f7-f11.5, but it has a decent flash, a self timer and half press focusing. And it runs off AA batteries rather than anything exotic. Also you have to use DX coded film otherwise it will treat it as 100 ISO.

Why use point and shoot for film? It's a waste of film, as their lenses cannot be any good. Get a Leica m3 or m6(if you want the metering) or a m5 if you are really out of budget. If you really care about size, get a Barnack Leica model. It can literally fit in your pocket and I can guarantee that the Elmar 3.5/50 or even the summar/50mm summicron v1 is better than lenses on p&s cameras.

Accept that the video is not for you and keep it pushing man. Ofc spending 1k usd or more is gonna get you a better result than a 35-100 dollar zoom lens compact, but there's also no chance in hell I'm taking a leica to a party, or leaving it in my bag every day, or like letting someone else try it out without handholding, etc etc etc

Also, I always find a lot of Samsung point and shoots that are surprisingly small and actually do good work. Super random but yeah. But the go to I would spend the money on is the Nikon L35AF, literally would choose this over any other point and shoot ive shot with.
