Someone in my comments wanted to hear what Bach sounded like on the Wurly, and someone else wanted to hear what the internal speakers sounded like on this instrument. So in this video I combined both of those ideas into one, and I hope you enjoy it!

Nice video! If memory serves, Wurlitzer made regular pianos when I was a kid in the 1940's. The U.S. produced lots of pianos back then.

Yessss, just about everyone I knew had a Wurlitzer Spinet Piano in their living room. They were beautiful, didn't take up too much room, very afforable and had a very nice sound. In the "I Love Lucy" shows (black & white era) you can see a 'spinet' in the background, I think that's what it was, although I do remember seeing (I was about 12 yrs old) a Steinway spinet in ebony at a piano store in Galveston, Texas. The things we remember, I'm 73 yrs olde now.

Wurlitzer also made theatre organs and, of course, jukeboxes. ...I had a keyboard, just like Ray Charles played, when I got out of the Army, that I bought at a pawn shop in Atlanta. I don't remember the exact model, but it was Wurlitzer likely from the mid-1950's, and it was yellow or beige (blonde?) and didn't look as modern as the one in the video. Seems like it's case was made out of particle board, rather than plastic? Anyway, it was just like this one: ruclips.net/video/-lPbxs515DQ/видео.html It had a sustain pedal and skinny screw in legs, that angled out for stability, if I remember right? It was worn out, when I got it and seemed to have been used by a pro, because it had a lot of custom work inside it, such as lead weights added to some of the keys. I bought it, because, unlike organs and many modern keyboards, it had weighted keys, so played somewhat like a piano. I had little money at the time, so a pawn shop worn out Wurlitzer electric piano for $15 was all I could afford. It had a built in tube amp and speaker. Anyway, once I could afford a regular piano, I bought an awesome sounding used 1903 Mason & Hamlin "Upright Grand" (just a rather tall upright), so I salvaged the tube amp out of the Wurlitzer to use as my guitar amp, and threw the rest of it away. If I'd known, that it had a following, and that Ray Charles, who used to play a lot in Atlanta, had recorded or performed with one like mine, I'd have kept it, but this was back, before you could just "google" an object to find out about it. ...For all I know, mine could very well have belonged to
Ray Charles, because the pawn shop, where I'd purchased it, West Side Loan on Peters Street, seemed like it had been there for centuries! ...Probably just 60 or 70 years at the time, but Ray could conceivably have pawned it a final time at West Side Loan, before he really hit it "Big", since it was worn out anyway. ...Probably not, but who knows? That pawn shop had hardly any turnover in it's showroom. I'd gone there for years just to look around, as if it were a museum when I was a kid, even before I was in the Army, and it had pretty much the same items in for sale in it's dusty nook, cranies, and corners, such as wooden legs and other oddities, that they had, before I went in the Army. They owned the property and taxes were cheap in this downtrodden area, so they didn't worry about taking up space with items, that wouldn't sell, like a modern pawn shop with a big lease payment to make every month. This was long before the area became gentrified, and there were still family run businesses on Peters St. West Side Loan was like a pawn shop from the old movies, not like Pawn Stars!
...Sorry, I digress. Got to reminiscing. My life was like a movie, and I was the star. Where has the time gone???

Bach would probably not think his music played on a Wurlitzer was much more strange than hearing his music played on a modern piano.
…well, except for the part about electricity. That would probably take him a minute to get used to.

James I have enjoyed many of your demo videos. But, just about every demo I have heard of a Wurlitzer 200 or a Wurlitzer sample in a modern day keyboard, the demonstrator always has the vibrato turned on. It is a unique aspect of the instrument which ads a certain character to it. However, it is quite annoying to listen to it being left on constantly. I owned and played a Wurlitzer 200 for several years as a full time musician. And, I used the vibrato feature only ocassionally. If one listens to most people demonstrating the Wurlitzer 200 today, you would think that this is a piano that has permanent vibrato which can not be switched off.

Hamburg Steinways can be very difficult to choose as there are many things to be aware of. There is also some changes going on at Steinway and I have been told, but as of yet not been able to verify that all Steinway pianos are now made in New York and the Hamburg pianos are assembled in Germany. I would not personally purchase a Steinway at this time regardless.
I would choose a Fazioli (the 278 or 308 in particular, although all their models are good) or Yamaha CFX. I would also be looking at Bluthner and C. Bechstein as well.
