I love how Yoongi and J-Hope came up with their own verses. Jimin's voice is really unique and beautiful.
What I love about this group is that they are all about respecting those that came before them and inspired them. Just like with Coldplay’s “Fix You” which was a very personal song for Chris Martin who wrote it for his exwife when her father died, they understand and get PERMISSION, from the artist. Those sooooo quick to judge an hate, don’t or simply refuse to acknowledge the fact that there is know way in hell they could do this cover without Diddy hearing it first and giving his approval!!!!!
I really appreciated the change in the rap lyrics. It allowed for a step away from some of the hip-hop historical context that they are too young to understand in the same way as some of us and in a way that was respectful. Bringing the lyrics to current events, it opened the sentiment to a global audience full of people feeling the loss of loved ones - either how have passed or are simply too far removed for any comfort.
The change in rap lyrics is because they are directing this to the world going through this covid. Many ppl have lost their loved ones as the main meaning for this song DD & Faith just like them ppl are hurting due to covid. BTS has suffered as well cause seeing their fans is like oxygen for them.
I agree with you... finding a reason to hate this rendition is just bc there are just ppl who love to hate... And, I agree that Puffy probably did give BTS permission. Just like they got permission from Coldplay for "Fix You". There are just moronic ppl out there that can't find anything else to do but to spew hate... They're what's wrong with our society bc music is for healing. It's an appropriate rendition for us in 2021.
Yes, BigHit is very aware that Bangtan loves old school rap so they're very respectful. I wish Puffy had said something they way Coldplay and Elton John did, things wouldn't escalate like that.
It’s actually Sting’s song that Puffy used. Sting is still the real owner of the song and he tweeted after BTS did this song.
The same haters of this rendition are the same haters of the P. Diddy and Faith Evans’ version of Stings original. Oh how times have changed and how it hasn’t. For every good in the world, there is always bad not too far behind. Also Sting gave his stamp of approval. This version couldn’t come at a better time and be better suited for today’s changing world.

I think what annoys me the most about bts getting hate for doing this is that these boys grew up with this music (at least some of them). I understand that people in their late teens/20s and 30s in the 90s might feel like this song is in some way "theirs" but it's not. I might not have understood what this song meant in the late 90s because I was young, that doesn't mean I didn't know it and that doesn't mean the song doesn't mean something to me now. I vividly remember this song from my childhood, you couldn't turn on a radio/mtv and not hear this song. Just because I'm not 50 doesn't mean that I can't appreciate what this song meant to rap/hiphop community and love it just as much.
Yes! I'm only a teenager right now, wasn't even born in the 90s, and personally it was heartwarming for the guys to do this cover. I may be extremely young, but I grew up loving this song and I feel they paid due respects while making this cover their own. The experience of a song does not being to anyone, music is supposed to be shared.

MONQ, so many rappers we’ve lost in the past three or four years some to violent ends and some to drug addiction and overdose! Couple of weeks ago we just lost BIZ MARKIE to complications of diabetes! And he was giving back to his community and he was always on a positive tip when it came to giving back to his neighborhood! And as far is these small minded people who nitpick about BTS covering this song, I believe they don’t want to see BTS Bring positivity and change in the music industry and yeah P Diddy definitely gave his seal of approval!

One thing I do know is that I have become dishearten With the musical world that we live in because I feel that there are not enough musical groups or artist in the music industry that give off positive energy that gives a positive light in this dark world that we live in the only reason why I gravitate to BTS is because they have given that spark of light from their music! To me they are not the only group out there doing that but they definitely have made major dents in the music world when it comes to opening up your eyes! I like K-pop I also like classic rock I also like R&B I also like American hip-hop but I don’t want to be categorized in one type of music I feel that music breaks the barriers of language and music is universal. I just want to say one thing Monk thank you for opening up a dialogue and opening up opinions to be shared and explored and what is music if it’s not there to make you feel some kind away, I know music identifies with your emotions how you feel that day sometimes determines the music that you’re listening to at that moment if something is making me sad by listening to it and I don’t wanna feel that way I change it !!why can’t we do that in the world that if we see some negativity why can’t we just change it why is it so difficult that we as people are so separated!? What was most frustrating about the think pieces was this song has been covered by so many people but ppl act as if they were the first to cover it. Then said that the song was about gun violence when diddy literally said its for everyone who has ever lost someone. It was just frustrated because people want BTS to be the villain and be those ignorant kids from 8 years ago who made a lot of mistakes. When they have literally grown and prove that by actions and not just words.
For all those who are complaining that BTS had changed the cover of I'll Be Missing You probably don't even know that the originally was sung by the group The Police. The Police song was called Every Breath You Take tho. I believe it was written by the singer Sting as well before taken to be used in P Diddy version. I love all the versions and each one sounds similar but with a twists plus it makes it more relevant for the times we r in now.

Thank you for the such great comments regarding the hate the BTS continually gets from people, it makes me so mad that these 7 young men are so humble and kind, trying to help make a better world for everyone, yet they get walked on by as you said morons, Namjoon, Yoongi and Hobi respect rap music and the all the American rappers, BTS respects all artist in general, I have never heard them say anything bad about anyone.
