Hey man, I also fly the hornet, would you like to team up and go do some team flying at PVP servers? Sadly DDCS server is basically abandoned, but there are a few others that ain't that bad
Couldn't agree more It needs dynamic campaign like Falcon 4 A career mode would be good also Unfortunately now there are too many modules It's become overweight, complex and broken I take my hat off though to ED They must have their work cut out now 4 or 5 modules is enough Concentrate on the core game instead
@@oddursigurdsson9637 This is not a dynamic campaign, these are the same missions that we fly solo. A dynamic campaign is a full-scale war. Imagine a real-time strategy game where you and your aircraft represent only one combat unit among hundreds of others simultaneously participating in various ground and air operations.
@@Skipper441 This where the IL2 games winout over DCS. The multiplayer is way better since tanks can be player used, fighters often fly escort for attackers and bombers, and much more it feels like a big war not a "war" like DCS
What DCS NEEDS! is the ability to add other players to a friends list that lets you see when there on and in what servers they are on so you can hop in and join them because people have lots of people they know but with out knowing what server there in "right now" there's no way of finding them but dumb luck, unless your on the same server, AND NO DISCORD IS NOT THE ANSWER MANY PEOPLE REFUSE TO USE DISCORD BECAUSE IT INTERFERES WITH THERE SYSTEM CAUSES CRASHES OR IS JUST TO COMPLICATED TO CONSIDER USEFUL.
What really works well, for me at least, is to sign up for planned multisquadron PVE missions that some communities and/or squadrons offer. If squadrons are out for you, something like the Tactical DCS community somewhat frequently has a mission series or one ofs going where you can just sign up for that day in a specific airframe. No long running commitment but usually a well designed mission with proper briefings and objectives.
no it's not, I used to do that when I was single and had no kids.. but now I am father of three and can't find time for coordinated long mp sessions I can't pause. I need dynamic complex environment to fly with save game feature. With occasional hot seat hop in MP possibility for any of my buddies to help out as a wingman.
@muhammadsaleh7229 No, it wasn't 'easy' to make in the 90s. Quite the opposite when you were working with 1MB of RAM, no 'AI', and you had to reallocate and reprogram .bat files every time you wanted to play something just to free up enough resources to start games! 😅 Did you build PCs in the 90s? I did...lots of them. A DC should be a piece of cake in 2024.
I hope ED is bringing something nice with dynamic campaigns... But I fear the reality will go this way: It is released in a half completed state as "early access" and from this point on they release some bugfixing at first and then nothing really happens for years.
IMHO DCS can be very boring if one is essentially playing War thunder or Ace Combat with it. It is missing a lot of simulation aspects that make it *much* more interesting. Here are some simple things you can do to use the simulator's power which requires a lot more pilot work: * fly at night. then, fly at night with sufficient numbers of SAMS you can't DEAD your way out of it and terrain becomes a factor. You'll sweat * fly long distances. I notice the bingo was not set in your video and afterburner in use when not strictly necessary. This is very common amongst gamers but less so among simmers. Managing fuel and performance keeps one busy. * do the math in your head, time-to-target, fuel rate vs fuel remaining to determine range or endurance, calculate top-of-descent distance for your altitude, try calculate stern conversion range or vector to intercept. * maintain visual scan, which requires constantly scanning sectors, back to instruments, back to terrain, back to next sector, etc. real pilots must do this * fly with wind and weather. you'll be surprised how intense it can be to drop warheads on foreheads in terrain when there's cloud. plus perfectly on centerline, on the piano keys landings can be difficult . Spotting IR armed aircraft between clouds becomes hard if they're using IRST to track you * fly disciplined, fly within 50 feet of the planned altitude the *whole* way, use constant G turns at planned turnpoints instead of folks flying around half-banked all the time * fly low and avoid detection. calculate and manage fuel burn at low altitude * master every skill, every weapon and its modes, real radio. aerial refuelling, aerial refuelling where the tanker gives you 1k or 2k pounds instead of full fuel tanks (can you make it there and back now?), 9-line CAS, carrier Cases 1-III and then Cases 1-III in terrible weather, instrument approaches etc ... * allow some system failures and still complete the mission with an aircraft gripe. * fly wingman for someone else or AI and keep station, avoid collision and anticipate supporting how they'll manoeuvre * fly to the 4-th dimension and get time-on-targets with 15 seconds of the planned time (or better), amp it up and use dead reckoning in wind with visual checkpoints. Don't use the INS and still do it * disable aids, fly with no F10, external views, no AWACS * fight enemies with better equipment or numbers than you, try winning with Sparrow or early sidewinders against enemies with the latest and greatest * try planning your flight before you jump into the cockpit, use NATOPS to work out fuel, speeds, altitudes, timings, etc * do all the things above better than you did in the sortie before * regularly review TacView to see the difference between what you thought was going on versus what actually went on. Increase your tactical situational awareness to learn the limitations of your mental pictur and improve your building of SA in each flight * use bandits that fly flow as well as mid-altitude bandits, you'll really have to work hard to systematically scan the radar low as well as around the sky. * fly a campaign that has night/weat5her and can have converging gorillas of enemies like DCS Liberation. Then fly the campaign with a single life * fly missions with random twists and still make it to the target on time * return to base *every* sortie. Fly like your life depended on it * join a virtual squadron and fly as cog within the machine, which requires discipline and adaptivity Anyway, there are *heaps* of things creative people can do that the sim doesn't force you to do, but it's all there. Lots of folks love to gunfight endlessly but can't refuel or fly to manage fuel consumption over long distances, or can't fly a proper approach in IMC. I'm not dissing gaming over simming, horses for courses after all, but gaming gets boring a lot faster than simming, and everything is already there in the sim to pick up much of the workload that an actual military pilot would do. If you are working hard it is unlikely one will have time to be bored. It's not for everybody but it makes you a much better virtual pilot (with some benefits in meatspace too). With simming the reward is satisfaction for overcoming difficulties. not on how many times one can smash the launch button or trigger. The greater the adversity, the greater the reward for accomplishing the task and doing an excellent landing.
Honestly that's what veterans with thousands of hours experience do mentally without even thinking about it Like the check your fuel, the other day I went to do a sead mission, got intercepted by a f14A, killed him, quickly switch to to SP mode, I knew the sam (human controlled) was about fire on me thinking he trapped me, kill the sa2 and 3, drop to the ground in the pre planned scape route where Intel show low chance of IR Sam's, and when asked by magic about my fuel state I answered about 4 without even seeing my gauges, then i checked my gauges and it was 4200ish lol I think his problem is more about not having people to fly and cooperate with, and I can feel him, DCS PVP can be very fun, but is mostly a lonely experience, people have 1 or 2h of free time and they want to do what they want to do, you know what I mean?no it's hard to find a partner to do nice team missions, but when you find one, maaaan its pure joy
I can appreciate your suggestions and how you presented it in the comment. I actually agree that those are even more ways to dive deeper into the sim. The core issue for me, and it seems many others in the comments, is that before we can even get into the deeper stuff...you can't even have fun because the co-op experience isn't there. I would rather do all the things you mentioned with a few others in a mission than to do it solo. Flying solo, for me, got boring. That's pretty much it.
I have never played in multiplayers in DCS. I always play single player because i got family & got another game to play with such as F1 2021 even though F1 2024 is already came out. The current jet i fly right now is F/A-18. Well, I used to fly A-10C all the time until they didn’t make new mission anymore, but there are several new missions now. Also, i got F-16, Mirage 2000c, harrier, & FC3, but i have not got a chance to fly those
I prefer making single player missions myself, because multiplayer sounds like a nightmare to coordinate the things I want to do for all of the reasons you mentioned. I can’t imagine you’d be able to do something harder like taking out S-300’s wild weasel style with randoms.
I am just getting back into DCS my self. I felt the same way. I ran a group for several years and had little support with the group so I backed off every one just bailed out. So I took two years off coming back I got the AH64 I love chopers. And got a FFB base witch has made a world of difrance in helo flying. Also found a group (179th) that has no requirements really, just a few guys that love to fly and one guy the is building some very cool missions for us. I hate playing by my self and it is hard to find that group of people that I fit in with. Thanks for the video.
I've been flying in DCS World for about one year. I still have a lot to learn, like refueling and cooperative lazing, etc. But I love the challenge DCS SIM has to offer. It keeps my mind sharp. Anyway, I am starting to get to a point where I feel confident enough to start flying PvP with others. I will be green in a real mission, since I barely know the A10, F16 and the F18; the only jets I have flown so far in single missions. But I bought all of them. And I love watching all of the RUclipsr videos seeing how others perform, and I gain experience that way, too. I still have a long way to go, but I will fly with any of you. Maybe, figure out a way to start your own Squadrons: Rookies, Trained, Seasoned, Veterans (who knows) and let people choose their own skill set/level. I am surprised that ED DCS did not provide a Training Center/Server that we pay 29.99 a month to become a member of with different levels of experience to choose from. Or anybody out there for that matter that has the ability to start up a DCS Training Center of some sort. And if veterans with different experience levels or have various skill sets to offer as an Instructor help out in some way, you/they get a discount, providing some needed services in the SIM Training Center. I think that would be an awesome way to learn, just like the real world. Sign up today...I would. Then it might provide a lot more fun and provide a way to get to know more people and making new friends. That's my theory.
If you are looking for someone with experience who hosts their own server that is beginner friendly with no requirements and offer their own trainings. My suggestion is to find servers that the top twitch streamers are on. Their chat typically uses SRS and the streamer will use it as well because it creates emersion in their stream, which encourages their chat and server to use SRS.
You are right on spot. It has to do with what I'd call "the need for server hosts to show off". Let me give you an example: I used to fly A LOT on Alpenwolf's Cold War Server: It was great because the action was usually concentrated on one or two key points. That allowed the server to confortably tend to 40-60 players without losing "Event Density". 30 vs 30 on a small area offers the same or more action than 200 vs 200 splattered all over the map, with less strain on the host and potentially lower ping values for the players. Besides, Alpen did the right thing and hosted models that, by their very own nature, are very GCI-dependant (F-1, F-5, A-4, A-10 vs Mig-15/19/21 and Su-25). He also limited the missions to 6 hrs max, ending them on Red wins, Blue wins or Tie. Every mission offered a good percentage of slots for choppers and JTac/Operators. In short: Straight-to-the-Point, No-BS, well-designed missions using no more than the tools DCS gives you, SRS and CTLD. That creates randomness without the need for complex LUA-editing, because the Human Factor was not only taken into consideration but actually integrated in the gaming structure. After a while, a cadre of regular players filled the server to the gills, particularly on saturdays. Lots of familiar voices every weekend, lots of comradeship. It created a sense of belonging, brotherhood and friendship. Needless to say, the Teamwork was at an all-times high and tactics needed to constantly evolve because every surprise was a one-trick-pony. Lots of fun, with GCIs toasting their brains just to provide enough air cover and support to units on the ground, while having to serve bogey dopes like tequila shots and simultaneously trying to somehow discern together what the opposing team was up to! Then, Enigma happened... Promoted as a Super-Server with hundreds of slots, mostly for planes, and a plethora of features that were more a distraction than an advantage. Cero teamwork. No coordination. Everybody flying on his own or at best in pairs. A lot of our mates let themselves be impressed, went away just to get bored and stop flying. They never came back. Alpenwolf closed his server and we were left with the feeling of having traded "Da Good'ol Weekendz wiv ze Boyz at the Local Bar" for a stupid "Alone in a Rave Party at the Soccer Stadium". Enigma gave up and bugged out not long ago. I guess he got a burnout because such a huge server demands a huge effort just to maintain. Heatblur took over the server but attendance plummeted. The position for that type of server seems still vacant. Alpen turns his little bar on from time to time, but I fear he is gonna struggle to rebuild a base big enough to justify the bump on his electricity bill. I wish I could help, but I can't. Others have tried to resurrect his philosophy of "better a well-foreplayed good one than a bunch of quickies" but no success so far. With the growing popularity of Falcon BMS and (Ew!) Warthunder, ED really needs to watch out and calculate every move. Too many "new-toys-for-the-glory-boys" on BLUEFOR while REDFOR is being relegated to provide a target-rich-environment at a time that the Mig-17, the Su-17/22 and (critically) the Flogger should have been integrated long ago at least as part of FC3 instead of recycling the F-5, the F-84 and the Midget. We need to stop thinking on F-35s, Raptors and Felons that cannot be accurately simulated for at least 3 decades from now, and focus on the human component: the technology should be there to supplement our abilities, not to replace them. That means: Hi-Tech in our rigs reproducing Legacy-Tech of a past era. I am a fan of the Mid-Late Cold War because back then you had some technological help, but it all depended on the pilot while today you almost need a Master Degree in Data Science just to take of and land, let alone fight. We need to be able to manipulate the number of players by coalition to create more asymetry "quality vs quantity". We need GCI that can see only aircraft. We need Ground Commanders that can see only ground units. Then we need specialized ground radar displays, reflecting the different eras and technologies. We need the Reconnaissance Mission built in the structure of the simulation (Recon Pods, recon planes and REAL Fog of War). We need better, more varied ECM techniques, not just a mix between Noise-Gate Stealing and Barrage Jamming. Yeah, well. And so on... ED needs to understand that DCS World has much more potential than just to give people something to play with for a while because Ebay is already full of DCS accounts for sale. Sorry for the rant. Cheers! :)
I’m wanting to learn DCS , I fly multi player in MSFS with groups all the time. Im not a gamer so a noob and ask lots of question I love that they others help me out. . Would love to learn to fly missions and learn the f16. Just intimidated to jump in as the learning curve is much higher in DCS and watching all the RUclips tutorials and videos, I’d be dead too fast. Would love to find some friends to learn the ropes. I am ordering my quest 3 soon for msfs2024 so want to,jump into DCS at the same time. I’m retired divorced and disabled so plenty of time. Thanx for your videos.
Everybody starts from the bottom…. Only way to learn the game is to play it… yes you will die fast at first… but eventually you won’t… dont let the learning curve intimidate you, just put in the work.
@@brucetrathen8011 spend some time in the su25t frogfoot. It’s the free aircraft you get initially. The systems are relatively easy to use, but will lay a good foundation that will translate to more complex systems in fancier aircraft. Plus if you can fly and land the frogfoot the other airframes will be no problem.
Hey man if you want to learn and have a good experience with DCS let me know and we can chat. I have a group that’s not too over the top but not ace combat or war thunder casual either.
@@SQUID_2259 thanx man. I will definitely do that. I meed to get it all downloaded and vr set up when it comes and then jump in. I dont play either of those games. I just play MSFS2020 90% of the time. RD2 10%. Might be a couple of weeks as my vr is arriving on October 16, hopefully as world is burning.
Nope. I've been flying DCS since Blackshark. There is always something to do. I fly with a squad on some nights, other nights I practice autorotation landing in the Huey, taking out SAMs with Shrikes with the Phantom, or building an airshow with the mission editor - which apart from its limitations is brilliant. Some of the Instant Action missions are fantastic, and you can always buy a campaign.
Totally get you buddy. Kinda in the same boat. Bored. Tried srs & no-one answers. Not such a noob, but lack experience with flying with people & learning together how to act as a group. I do shifts & weekends.
fly the analog planes, F-4 and F-14. Do one thing and relax. I switched from the 18 to the 14 and it's pure joy. Mounted my T16000 HOTAS on a mount and fly with a squadron in my timezone. It's awesome.
I feel this so much, the peak of dcs for me was liberation with a handful of friends working together, not too milsim to the point of a large operation, more small scale but team focused. Squadrons for an american wanting something more focused on teamwork than having to be a 1:1 milsim is pain, everything is a several hundred member milsim group that only does ops at basically sunrise, or smack at peak lunchtime, and will kick you out for not dedicating a specific schedule to them. Or its a place people go to do the standard mp thing and have zero teamwork.
That has been my experience too with some Sqd groups and its just not my style. What you described is more of what I'm looking for. Feel free to email me to get some flights going, info is on my channel profile page.
I get that feeling sometimes. I've got a small group of wingmen that I've been lucky enough to connect with. When I fly with them it's a lot of fun. When I fly alone, it is usually boring by comparison. I'm semi decent in the Hornet with LGBs, dumb bombs, BVR, and basic BFM. I can do all the carrier stuff and AAR too. If you want to do a collab, let me know how I can reach out.
YOU CANT QUIT ON US !! You're videos on how to do things are crucial. Your simplified explanations make the learning curve so much more acceptable. You helped me a ton !
That means a lot man! Truly does. Sometimes I get flak for my "simplified" and "not by the book" explanations but I just know there are others out there like me and that's who I try to make my videos for.
@@callsigngrimeyI started with the Apache, so I took your cold start video, and was up in the air with your simplified step by step by the time the video ended... After that I tackled things as I came across them. I dont have the technical knowledge, I'm new to flight sims, DCS is my first ever flight sim, so I dont know all the terminology and the acronyms, so having that simplified step by step was really what gave me the knowledge I needed to keep going. I make art related videos on my channel, and I also go into these breaks and periods where I loose my mental focus on the stuff I do, so I take a break, do something else and return when I am feeling the vibes again... I have this with every game, it's not the game or the activity, sometimes you just have to put it aside and let it rest... The love for it is still there. Keep doing what you do, no one is gonna judge you for taking a break and the people who give you flak, let them make videos and see how they do... It's often easier to criticize in the comments, they just mad that they didnt think of it themselves.
Buddy, I played a lot of multiplayer but currently I don't have the patience or time to dedicate myself to a virtual squad and spend hours logged in early in the morning, so I much prefer to play singleplayer. It's very difficult to balance private life with the time needed to learn a FF module and then play with other people, I've had more pleasure doing single player missions. ED urgently needs to add Dynamic Campaigns in DCS, improve its AI, ATC and other features of SP mode.
I gave up on multiplayer DCS because of this problem. Every time I was in a server there was either a lot of people who want to do their own thing and disregard everyone else, people who only fly around doing stupid stuff and doesn't really communicate with anyone and a lot of arguments around what to do in the server. And that ruined a lot of the enjoyment for me. I'm an adult with two kids and have limited time on my computer, so I dedicate all my time in DCS now to making interesting scenarios for myself in Singleplayer, and best of all; I'm having fun again. I've found so much more appreciation in mastering my modules alone in peace instead of wasting my time in servers that goes nowhere. Players can join servers if they don't see this problem themselves, by all means. But I personally found it to be a big waste of time. This isn't just DCS, but a lot of games has come to this.
You all need to join a good squadron. I'm with JTF-13 and we do weekly Liberation missions with planning, training classes and just started a multi-week story based campaign in Sinai. Flying missions with 50 other people all laser focused on completing their part of an ongoing war is what really separates this game from anything else out there.
2:09 this is a relatively new thing honestly. I don't know what happened. Back when hoggit GAW, PGAW, and SAW were alive and kicking you would have *multiple* GCI/AIC controllers and JTACS on at a time. Hell sometimes we'd have actual ATC with them. No one talks anymore, my squawk dosen't mean anything, and no one sees my ident... I miss it. I'll probably stray away from the casual servers or start up again with my Hornet squadron.
I own DCS for a while now, still a beginner I would say. Altough I was an experienced late 90ties pilot - DCS is kind of hard getting into. Especially the time to learn the aircraft(s), learn the radio app, and then find a server to practice, make contact to people, and then find an opportunity to actually DO what you like most, dogfights, strike missions, BVR, Helo strikes... The developers are not helping the game, they could have built a radio and personall online organisation & connection years ago - I think that is what slows down the community. DCS is very skill based, so why not have a cadre system where you can look for teachers, students, dogfight practise, strike practise, learn radio, learn the jet systems, etc? most people are short term players, most dont have time or commitment to play 3 hour missions with briefings on specific days & times
I can feel your pain. I had this moment already 2 years ago - this was when I joined a virtual squadron (in my case a helicopter squadron the BlackSharkDen). This is the place where you get experienced pilots, good comms, good cooperation, right on the point - with EVERY sortie. I am rarely on the public MP servers any more, cause they are indeed absolutely boring and they suck. People are so bad with cooperation and communication there and this kills any immersion for me. Believe me, if you are not feeling as a gamer but more as a fan of military flightsimulation a virtual squadron is the way to go.
Totally agree. An issue for a Tomcat guy is that it’s hard to find a pilot/RIO who knows the aircraft as well as you, and who is willing to split up certain tasks in the cockpit.
I don't fly the 14 but I do the Apache and SE which are both two seat aircraft and I 100% agree! I've had my BEST times when I had a CPG or WSO in the backseat, or vice versa, because its literally co-op experience.
I fly SP exclusively and used to be in my simpit all the time re-flying the same mission I had created in the ME with slight variations all the time and it got super boring. So, I flew less. I also had to put my time in cockpit into perspective, realizing I was in there way too much and neglected other things. So, I scaled back and created more balance with other interests I have. Also, now, thanks to you, I discovered DCS Briefing Room where you can create challenging and ever-changing missions in a matter of minutes and then fly them. That was one of my main obstacles to be honest - the time it takes to create sensible missions. Initially, I enjoyed spending hours dreaming up scenarios but honestly, they were never as exciting as I envisioned them to be. Now, I can change it up in no time and the feeling of more excitement is actually real. That said, I still make sure I don't spend too much time in DCS and balance my free time with other things. Seems to work better for me...
Had the same issues with other games, that the players were killing them. Hell let loose, amazing ww2 game, but lock squads with 2 players and no squad to join.
Seems like you need to fly scheduled missions with folks. BMS at UOAF there is a 30 pilot mission every Saturday. DCS they have about 10 or so on Sundays.
The real issue with DCS isn’t the game itself but how we've moved away from building real-world connections, especially after COVID and with our reliance on digital tech. Offline gatherings-like meeting up for coffee, a beer, or hanging out-are crucial for building genuine friendships, training together, and developing a sense of camaraderie that translates into better teamwork online. Groups like the "SHREK AIR STRIKE Sqn DIE HARD" and the "32nd Virtual Aviation Squadron" have proven that when members know each other personally, they develop stronger bonds and a more enjoyable experience. If you want a more rewarding DCS experience, take the initiative to find or start a local group. Real-world interactions make digital names become real people, creating more value and encouraging greater participation in online missions. This approach helps bridge the gap and fosters a stronger sense of community, making the multiplayer aspect of DCS truly enjoyable.
True. The game itself now is best it has ever been. Dynamic campaign or dynamic weather will not bring excitement if human connections among players is not there, or players shy away from interactions. Gradually player base is and will continue changing in future. More and more Gen Z players participate and they are known to have problems to engage with other humans. Older players may be now focusing on different hobbies instead of sitting at PC or have families and new priorities. Nothing stay same for long. I would not be too worried. It`s just life, not the end of the world.
I follow you on this one, spent ages on getting proficient in the warthog only to find out that on most multiplayer servers there is or no CAP at all or if there is they don´t like to work as teams for an objective. And the times I encountered a live jtac or buddy laser I can still count on one hand. There is so much more to get out of this game than we are doing right now
when I log in a server there are like 20+ players, I type "hello everyone" and like 2 people respond, after that I type "anybody wanna fly together?" and nobody responds.
Exactly how i felt, and my gamer friend only play stuff like tarkov, so i ended up joining a virtual aerobatics team the virtual Silver Falcons and than has changed my DCS experience for the better
I believe we all go through that at some point, basically I hope that more things added to DCS to be able to change from time to time, but what I do is change the jet or go with apache or try something new, I don't play campaigns, But sometimes I make my own missions if am making content for youtube.
Agree 100% about your comments regarding players. Vast majority are air quake kiddies with the maturity level to match. Finding someone to fly with who wants to use realistic tactics, etc. is next to impossible. And yes, I've tried various squadrons. Same, same.
When I get bored I hop on the aerobatic server and can usually find a group.. The divide between people who fly for fun and those who think they are doing it for real is pretty broad so it's hard to find a good between point of someone who isn't an ass if you screw up and someone you don't need to hand hold for an entire flight either. At the same time it's fun to help new players. I'm with you on having a life outside of dcs, not wanting to be on a schedule for other people. The apache is my primary aircraft, and if you ever want to fly together I'm on all the time...
Solution: Get the F-14. Take the deep dive by learning to fly it well. This will be a drastic change from the Hornet, but it's a challenge and may be the spark you need. Eventually you'll find a human back-seater (RIO) and that's when it becomes amazing. Multicrew in the Tomcat is overlooked at times, but it is some of the best times I've had in DCS. It's not easy, but once you become part of a good crew, there's nothing like it. I'd volunteer to assist, but I'm working on the Phantom at the moment. You probably have buddies that have it already. If not, let me if you decide to take the journey and I'll help.
I agree with him about this MP can be boring if you just jump in a server and you don't have a set group you fly with. Then there's life events that don't really allow a group to consistently fly. And the VFWs are just too much a commitment. A dynamic campaign is really whats needed
Same here, basically stopped playing DCS a few weeks before the Kola map launched, due to boredom and frustrations. We need better in-game AI for both Air and Ground units, SAM IADS etc. as well as including more AI airframes in-game, not as 3rd parts mods.
Totally get it. I’ve been all over the place with different groups and have the same frustrations on most multiplayer servers where there’s no communication. I would recommend checking out Republic of Texas. Not too much in terms of commitment, but when we get together to fly, people are working together. Almost always somebody around who’s looking for a wingman. Give it a shot.
I agree dcs was fun when I started playing it but now that I’ve basically mastered my aircraft it has been a bit boring because there is nothing new to discover
There is a balance you can find. Some groups are more experienced players, but have no training requirements or commitments. You have to join a group in order to find what you're describing in the video. Sometimes it takes joining multiple groups before you strike gold and really find what you're looking for with one of them. Every group has their own culture and things they bring to the table. Be persistent.
*DCS may be dull* because of the emphasis on SIM over gaming. And I like that, personally. _Imagine being a real pilot._ Most pilots' careers are "another day in the office" when flying is concerned. Most pilots never experience what DCS can present you with in terms of adversaries and enemies. Your idea of getting together with people and creating scenarios you are looking for is the best way to create interest. And I agree with the sentiment that dynamic campaigns would help.
Hey Grimey - I'm in the same boat. Just looking for someone to pick a mission and fly on my wing or the other seat. Casually try some stuff out and blow things up ... or maybe settle down for a few missions. The air wings are too formal and require a lot of time and just flying around on hoggit by myself sucks. I'm on US Central Time, out of work by 6pm, and have my weekends free.
If you're free Monday/Tuesday 7pm central we have a small wing that flies together. Mostly contention and other public servers. But we have private servers where we do bespoke missions as well. Just depends on what we're feeling. We fly a ton of airframes.
I do feel like that from time to time and just play something else. That’s the beauty of gaming. You can take it or leave it anytime you want. You can be as much or as little hard core as you want. If it gets boring, walk away until you’re ready to go back. No big deal :)
For everyone feeling this way just join a casual squadron. For example the one I am in has no attendance requirements we have missions about twice a month but when theres no official missions we play on our private server pve and we just have fun no formations/ brevity unless you want to. Usually theres about 6 of us flying every night in different timezones.
I sometimes have this problem, i got couple friend groups were we fly custom missions, mainly done by me and even tho most of us are just dumb kids between the age of 13-17 (including me) we still have some fun and we can actually get some coordinated missions going on. Its pretty fun, we just do whatever the hell we want in a group lol.
DDCS was the server that fixed that. It was the greatest server I’ve played on for a dynamic campaign paired with 10+ engaged people on each team to communicate with. ED has killed the server due to bug after bug that they refuse to help the server modders in working around. Bring back DDCS
Gotta say, it's a you issue. I get it, I do things I'm in the mood for, and If I get bored, I have a lot of modules I don't regularly fly so I make a point to blow the dust off of them and run them through their paces. I rarely find a Module I don't like after flying it for a few days. Sometimes I realize my skills are degrading and that's frustration and I have to force myself to get retrained so I am comfortable again. I feel I have barely scratched the surface and I've been flying for a decade and more.
I couldn't agree more with everything you said, for the most part I'm in the same funk.I think my comments are broke sometimes. Thought about the squad thing but same as you. My call sign is Patches I fly on TTI, Grayslake, that's pretty much it unless I make missions . Anyway, if you see me hit me up, I'd be happy to fly with you. F18c pilot. Hang in there!
Try SDCS server. It's lower population count currently but it's extremely in depth dynamics server. Loads of mechanics and it's bought life back into my DCS gameplay. I'll gladly show ya out sometime. I'm still learning myself
I wouldn't say I'm bored with DCS, I still love the game and appreciate any new maps, modules and campaigns that come up. The one element that I think is missing compared to other games is the sense of progression. In other games, the more you play you earn new titles, skins, functionality, weapons, etc... but not so with DCS. To appreciate progression with DCS, for me it has been everything I've learned in the process through campaigns and MP. This is fine, but I'm REALLY looking forward to a dynamic campaign. I think this will scratch a lot of the progression itches that I and perhaps others currently have. My thoughts.
I’d fly with you! I find the same issues trying to fly with people in multiplayer. And you make radio calls and end up having people pull out on runways while short final or try to communicate A/A combat and no one answers. Really does get old and boring
I’ve been investing time in DCS for about a year, enjoy it a ton. I’d say the biggest drawback or holding back is the hardcoreism (#tm) of voice comms in most servers. Take ECW for instance, learn the F4 enough to be proficient on how the aircraft works to maybe be lucky enough to do some A2A or A2G if it presents itself, login in and bang you realize the SA is very dependent on things outside the sensors of your aircraft, take off with a pseudo plan, as you gain altitude the awacs asks “X call sign what’s your intent”, respond “honestly not sure”, F-5 that took off just behind you decides to Russian fuel spray you in annoyance and human controller decides to stop providing you with Intel. The complexity, nuance and vague documentation of the server mechanics makes it hard to break through into a server.
I literally just made a Reddit post about this. People being shy on dcs servers is ruining the game, this is kind of a trend among tactical level gameplay I’ve noticed
I think when you have people brand new to these high level types of games/sims, there's a big learning curve and it makes people shy/scared/worried to speak up because they may not know the lingo/terms/etc. So yeah I agree with you.
I do relate to this, mostly I'm the problem. I aint clued up as well as I could be with DCS as its a study SIM with my work being the way it is its hard to stay consistent. I do love to fly with some of the guys I play with sometimes but its me mostly asking questions and getting confused with a multitude of problems. Not a dig at anyone. more towards myself then anything else. either way I'll keep logging on and making mistakes while having fun and finally getting that 1 kill that isn't a friendly. happy flying my virtual pilots xD
I would recommend making your own missions in the mission editor! I have made my own missions that has taken me 10 hours+ but they are amazing to play with friends. I’ve recreated desert storm like missions in DCS with friends. The more detailed the missions are the better. DCS has a terrible game engine so you’re limited on the amount of units that you place, but you can still place a complete army on the ground for CAS in a city and it will run fine. The biggest problem is probably the number of ordinance in the air, anything above 100 kills your fps. My point is that there are groups of friends out there making insanely fun missions in DCS that most people have no idea about. Closest thing to it would be something like Enigma’s but even that falls short to some of the missions my friends and I have made.
Hot take, the ww2 servers (when they are popped, cause they arent popped 24/7) are always lively, chatty, and have lots of communication and team work.
Felt exactly the same. Public was just to repetitive and boring - virtual wings too much commitment and mostly like a second job. Found some Joy in playing a-10 campaigns (especially persian freedom) and now am taking a damn long break from dcs because of learning a new profession and most likely becoming a dad in 6 months. Hope is that i´ll come back in a few years and there´ll be dynamic campaign mode for mp. In your case i´d just search for some like-minded guys and build up a community to fly semi-tactical missions once a week using some mission generator like liberation or odysseus (or whatever it is called). having a coordinated mission in the evening for around 2 hours without alpha-bravo-charlie-super-duper-oscar-papa-tacticool requirements is a good midleground to enjoy dcs without overcomiting and it keeps it fun. Wish you only the best of luck and health dealing with your ptsd (:
Im personally waiting for the Dynamic Campaign they announced hopefully its as good as i picture it in my mind if not i think ill just start playing Falcon BMS
What worked best for me. Just ask in the ingame chat for someone to help you with a objective. And keep doing that. people will get to know you. And that you are always up for a team up. These Discord things don't work to well because they might not have time when you want to fly or visa versa. So you actually have to schedule it. The peoplemingame are already flying. And are probably waiting for someone to speak up just like you.
@@callsigngrimey I was never flamed for these reasons. This is how we started. Got to know and fly with a shitload of people like this. Just use chat if you don't want to use voice coms for these things. I wonder what's wrong with people these days thinking they bother others by just asking questions and trying to have a good time. I teached a lot of strangers how to fly by just talking to them on the server, and visa versa. That's what these tools are designed for.
wouldn't know, i play like 90% singleplayer, playing with the mission editor, get bored and drive tanks or order ships about in fleet battles (combined arms and gamemaster slots) build bases and have them assaulted etc...the very few times i tried multiplayer it was to test frame rate stability in such, no mic use of course, just trying to get a feel for how it goes...and during that, you are correct, it seemed everyone including me was solo. of course mods mods mods...that complicates multiplayer, and my personal pet peeve is looking at the server list and seeing that no one, for meta/practical reasons, sorts eastern/nato equipment by team, especially egregious if dots or labels are not allowed, doubled again if they get assmad about friendly fire. the problem with multiplayer is other players, lol.
DCS is a bit of a on/off experience. It is best to group up with a like-minded squadron, although that may be tough to find between the hardcore milsim folks and the dirty casuals. I'm kind of fortunate that our local scene is so small. It's forged a community that caters to all skill levels and degrees of dedication. I hope you find your flock soon. Nothing beats flying with friends.
Feel the same. Love to fly, hate to fly alone. I'm up for a flight or two. I'm on the Grayflag server a lot but nobody really talks too much. Ran into a guy who did FAC in an A-10 . We had 3 A-10's hitting a target and it was real fun. Looking for that again. 48 EST M-S... hit me up! I'm no noob. Lets fly.
I love the game. I have the Primax Crystal Light and waiting for the 5090 RTX. I started using head and eye tracking to learn the aircraft and when I say aircrafts I have many. I should have learned 1 at a time but I’m all over the place. I decided to learn the F16 cockpit buttons to make things easier . I like to do multiplayer but right now my skill set on the F16 is average. Having a coach would be great but time consuming and lots of DCS players probably feel the same way I feel. They want to be the best before playing multiplayer. This is not built like a battlefield or call of duty. 😊
Is it just me or anyone else feel the same way? Maybe those of use that feel this way need to band together and fly together.
Exactly the same. Most squadrons are very strict commitment wise, or you fly solo
I’ve started looking for folks to fly with too. I’ve never flown multiplayer but I’m hitting a fun/skill wall with what I can do on my own.
very much the same :C
Hey man, I also fly the hornet, would you like to team up and go do some team flying at PVP servers? Sadly DDCS server is basically abandoned, but there are a few others that ain't that bad
Same man
DCS needs dynamic campaign like BMS bad. It feels lifeless without a dynamic war happening around you
The multiplayer servers like shadowreapers and heatblur cold war have dynamic campaigns
@oddursigurdsson9637 yes, ive flown them, is still far from busy traffic and ground war wise.. im hoping ED's dynamic campaign fixes this
Couldn't agree more
It needs dynamic campaign like Falcon 4
A career mode would be good also
Unfortunately now there are too many modules
It's become overweight, complex and broken
I take my hat off though to ED
They must have their work cut out now
4 or 5 modules is enough
Concentrate on the core game instead
I kinda like this idea of a in game friends list. Gonna note it and include in a future video I think. Thanks!
Discord too complicated? My guy you're playing DCS
Nice idea, but then there should be also a chat in the multiplayer lobby. The chat in the game / mission can also take some improvements...
I hate youtube. I don't know which word it hates so much that it deletes my comments...
We meet our teammates in person. We go to events together, mostly hiking in nature.
What dcs needs is a serious company that will have a HQ and actual employees. Not a bunch of contractors.
Thanks for the feedback. Goin to look up that group you mentioned.
DCS is a game I love watching OTHER PEOPLE play. Not one I love playing.
Much the same how I feel about World of Tanks.
I honestly understand that! Sometimes I get into a MP server just to watch others fly their missions.
Best solution is to join any virtual squadron, lots of fun, communications and eveything. Joining a random server does not work for me.
no it's not, I used to do that when I was single and had no kids.. but now I am father of three and can't find time for coordinated long mp sessions I can't pause. I need dynamic complex environment to fly with save game feature. With occasional hot seat hop in MP possibility for any of my buddies to help out as a wingman.
Grayflag servers are close to what you are describing minus the hot start feature.
That is a path exclusive to kids and old guys that have abundance of free time.
@@shamandgg100% agree
this
Dcs does not necessarily need a dynamic campaign , it just needs a good ai and some engaging campaigns that do not break with every update
No, it needs a DC...badly. Almost EVERY sim that came out in the 90's had a DC...35 years ago. No excuses for not being able to do one in 2024.
DC is mandatory.
@@karlhungus545 DC was easy to make in the 90 s plus many games like Janes f15 , USAF etc didn't have a DC
Digital cockpits Simulator 😂😂😂😂😂
hahah man this is hilarious!!!
@@NiaLong-zk1jo indeed
yes, it is!!
True, but old joke. I heard that on the Steel Beasts forum a decade ago.
LMAO
IMHO DCS can be very boring if one is essentially playing War thunder or Ace Combat with it. It is missing a lot of simulation aspects that make it *much* more interesting. Here are some simple things you can do to use the simulator's power which requires a lot more pilot work:
* fly at night. then, fly at night with sufficient numbers of SAMS you can't DEAD your way out of it and terrain becomes a factor. You'll sweat
* fly long distances.
* maintain visual scan, which requires constantly scanning sectors, back to instruments, back to terrain, back to next sector, etc. real pilots must do this
* fly with wind and weather. you'll be surprised how intense it can be to drop warheads on foreheads in terrain when there's cloud. plus perfectly on centerline, on the piano keys landings can be difficult . Spotting IR armed aircraft between clouds becomes hard if they're using IRST to track you
* fly disciplined, fly within 50 feet of the planned altitude the *whole* way, use constant G turns at planned turnpoints instead of folks flying around half-banked all the time
* fly low and avoid detection. calculate and manage fuel burn at low altitude
* master every skill, every weapon and its modes, real radio. aerial refuelling, aerial refuelling where the tanker gives you 1k or 2k pounds instead of full fuel tanks (can you make it there and back now?), 9-line CAS, carrier Cases 1-III and then Cases 1-III in terrible weather, instrument approaches etc ...
* allow some system failures and still complete the mission with an aircraft gripe.
* fly wingman for someone else or AI and keep station, avoid collision and anticipate supporting how they'll manoeuvre
* fly to the 4-th dimension and get time-on-targets with 15 seconds of the planned time (or better), amp it up and use dead reckoning in wind with visual checkpoints. Don't use the INS and still do it
* disable aids, fly with no F10, external views, no AWACS
* fight enemies with better equipment or numbers than you, try winning with Sparrow or early sidewinders against enemies with the latest and greatest
* try planning your flight before you jump into the cockpit, use NATOPS to work out fuel, speeds, altitudes, timings, etc
* do all the things above better than you did in the sortie before
* regularly review TacView to see the difference between what you thought was going on versus what actually went on. Increase your tactical situational awareness to learn the limitations of your mental pictur and improve your building of SA in each flight
* use bandits that fly flow as well as mid-altitude bandits, you'll really have to work hard to systematically scan the radar low as well as around the sky.
* fly a campaign that has night/weat5her and can have converging gorillas of enemies like DCS Liberation. Then fly the campaign with a single life
* fly missions with random twists and still make it to the target on time
* return to base *every* sortie. Fly like your life depended on it
* join a virtual squadron and fly as cog within the machine, which requires discipline and adaptivity
Anyway, there are *heaps* of things creative people can do that the sim doesn't force you to do, but it's all there.
Honestly that's what veterans with thousands of hours experience do mentally without even thinking about it
Like the check your fuel, the other day I went to do a sead mission, got intercepted by a f14A, killed him, quickly switch to to SP mode, I knew the sam (human controlled) was about fire on me thinking he trapped me, kill the sa2 and 3, drop to the ground in the pre planned scape route where Intel show low chance of IR Sam's, and when asked by magic about my fuel state I answered about 4 without even seeing my gauges, then i checked my gauges and it was 4200ish lol
I think his problem is more about not having people to fly and cooperate with, and I can feel him, DCS PVP can be very fun, but is mostly a lonely experience, people have 1 or 2h of free time and they want to do what they want to do, you know what I mean?no it's hard to find a partner to do nice team missions, but when you find one, maaaan its pure joy
Staubs is right on target. 👍
Bingo on the last part!
Dynamic Campaign literally can't come quick enough...
+1
The thought of trying a wild weasel run in a MP server with random's is hilarious. They'd just break off and let you eat a sam missle lol
Crazy, I’ve always thought DCS Multiplayer is more single player than single player! I guess everyone is a lone wolf!
Just like FPS. Everyone is lone wolf
There are some statistics from ed that shows most of the players play single
Reading your comment made me realize this...it's pretty accurate.
Haha, yes, if we were not lone wolfs then we would not be sitting at PC in our bedrooms alone on Fridays and Saturdays evenings.
Dynamic campaign, hands down. They need to get it released asap
That's an interesting idea. Appreciate the comment man.
Let me give you an example:
I used to fly A LOT on Alpenwolf's Cold War Server: It was great because the action was usually concentrated on one or two key points.
Cheers! :)
Also finding an active online squadron helps, but you need to find one that suits you as some carry on like its a job
Exactly what has kept me away from them thus far.

2:21 Thats what I do. Probably why I keep going back to BMS
fly the analog planes, F-4 and F-14.
I'm always down to fly with anyone! My email is on my channel profile, feel free to email and we can connect
I'm going to have to rethink the Sqd idea
This isn't just DCS, but a lot of games has come to this.
well said
You all need to join a good squadron. I'm with JTF-13 and we do weekly Liberation missions with planning, training classes and just started a multi-week story based campaign in Sinai. Flying missions with 50 other people all laser focused on completing their part of an ongoing war is what really separates this game from anything else out there.
That sounds great. I'd be happy with a crew of 10 guys flying a few shorter missions per night. For me that would be more feasible with my schedule
When I got into DCS a few years ago, people talked and like you said....it just kinda stopped. Very weird
Its Boring because ED refuses to provide a way to find or link up with friends that are on right now !
Absolutely agree, my virtual sqn (161sqn, Australia) have semi regular social catch ups at a regular pub etc - it's excellent!
The best fun has been joining a squadron and doing group flying and missions with them rather than hopping on random servers or campaigns
Spot on!
But join a squadron / clane or something like that.... it takes DCS to a new level.
I'll add the 14 at some point. I get my multi-crew fun in the Apache which I LOVE. Agree that when you have a co-pilot its way more fun.
I agree with him about this MP can be boring if you just jump in a server and you don't have a set group you fly with. Then there's life events that don't really allow a group to consistently fly. And the VFWs are just too much a commitment. A dynamic campaign is really whats needed
Find a community that is active and does community missions. It's a game changer
Yeah that's on my agenda now to do
I usually spend a week in BMS and then the next in DCS. I find it hard to get boring that way.
I feel this dude. Once my dudes moved on in life, no one to fly with and coordinate, game got super boring.
That’s tough!
I hear ya brother, 5th loop for me taking a brake from DCS :D
joining a squadron/community should never be a prerequisite for enjoying a multiplayer game
1. Real DCS experience is in an Virtual Air Wing.
2. Try Liberation Tool.
I hope also for the dynamic campaign.
Are u using IR TRACKER and what is the brand .. great video
Yes I am, using TrackIR for head tracking. thank you
*DCS may be dull* because of the emphasis on SIM over gaming.
My email is in my channel profile, I'm CST as well. Shoot me and email and lets fly dude.
What is your squadron, sounds great and I'd be interested in joining
Same i may be interested
I sometimes have this problem, i got couple friend groups were we fly custom missions, mainly done by me and even tho most of us are just dumb kids between the age of 13-17 (including me) we still have some fun and we can actually get some coordinated missions going on. Its pretty fun, we just do whatever the hell we want in a group lol.
That's what its all about, having fun!
Yeah I understand. Life is boring. Doing same thing whole time: girl, kids, work, friends, ... doesn't work for me too.
🤥
One of my favorites right now is contention 80’s. Need SRS though. Actually it’s the only server I get on.
DDCS was the server that fixed that. It was the greatest server I’ve played on for a dynamic campaign paired with 10+ engaged people on each team to communicate with. ED has killed the server due to bug after bug that they refuse to help the server modders in working around. Bring back DDCS
DCS is like Early access 4ever😂
I thank ed for made my mind and stick with bms
I completely feel the same way when in modern combat servers. The WWII server 4YA was different. But alas the numbers there are dwindling.
Come fly with VFC-269. Casual and skilled group.
Email me the discord link? Info is in my channel homeoage
I'm more single player. I'm looking at BMS. Doing the iron flag campaign for the A10II but once I'm done with that I'm learning the F-15c for BMS
That's because the best modules are mi8, mi24 and some ww2 props. If you don't use these ofc you get bored.
Feel free to email me to setup some fly time bud, email info is in my channel profile.
Try SDCS server. It's lower population count currently but it's extremely in depth dynamics server. Loads of mechanics and it's bought life back into my DCS gameplay. I'll gladly show ya out sometime. I'm still learning myself
First, I like your name. Second, I'll look it up tonight
Great point although in order to do this I actually need friends in the first place lol Thanks for the suggestions
Thanks bud I really appreciate it! Best of luck on the work and fatherhood!
I'll just be the annoying guy on comms saying "hey who needs a wingman" about 50x's lol should be fun getting flamed.
My issue is key binding . Which do I used beside pitch, roll , yaw.
Do you use TrackIR?
DCS is a bit of a on/off experience. It is best to group up with a like-minded squadron, although that may be tough to find between the hardcore milsim folks and the dirty casuals. I'm kind of fortunate that our local scene is so small. It's forged a community that caters to all skill levels and degrees of dedication. I hope you find your flock soon. Nothing beats flying with friends.
Yeah I have to find my flock, well said.
the multiplayer servers seems extremely chaotic and often bad performance. i only fly on aerobatics server and that never gets old to me.
Time to give Falcon BMS a chance
goin to look it up
I would love to do that with you but I can’t bc I don’t got a high enough level pc and I’ve been into flight sims
I agree fully. Considering how much money we've spent on it, it should be.... better?
I hear you!
Getting into mods and scripting makes things way better
Feel the same. Love to fly, hate to fly alone. I'm up for a flight or two. I'm on the Grayflag server a lot but nobody really talks too much. Ran into a guy who did FAC in an A-10 . We had 3 A-10's hitting a target and it was real fun. Looking for that again. 48 EST M-S... hit me up! I'm no noob. Lets fly.
Hey man, I'm down. Can you shoot me an email to set it up? info is on my channel in the profile section. thanks man
@@callsigngrimey Sorry bro, can only find your tiktok

I love the game. I have the Primax Crystal Light and waiting for the 5090 RTX. I started using head and eye tracking to learn the aircraft and when I say aircrafts I have many. I should have learned 1 at a time but I’m all over the place. I decided to learn the F16 cockpit buttons to make things easier . I like to do multiplayer but right now my skill set on the F16 is average. Having a coach would be great but time consuming and lots of DCS players probably feel the same way I feel. They want to be the best before playing multiplayer. This is not built like a battlefield or call of duty. 😊
