Every time I see Mike try to roll his number, I just think of Seal Gaiman's origin story.
Andy sped through the fears at the end just because he wanted to make sure "psychosexual gnomes" made it into the show. 😄
Surely the last thing he would want is the psychosexual gnomes to make it into the show? 🤣
I kind of wish he'd stop talking about them.
Did Luke realize that his staring contest with the Gatekeeper was done only out of pride? If he blinked he would've lost a key, of which he had none.
Or his heart.
It gets better what the gatekeeper say's is "You who's turn it is NEXT" it was Andy who should have been doing the staring contest.
So Oxbox fears:
Luke: Wasps and other insects
Mike: Cheese being made illegal
Andy: Psychosexual gnomes
I agree with Mike that is a horrible thing to imagine
Mike's is truly spine chilling.
I'm from Wisconsin, and Mike's fear would crash our entire economy.

Of there was no cheese we'd never have mac and cheese.
Just the energy of the opening is hilarious. Luke comes in ready to fight for his survival, Andy seems resigned to his fate, and Mike is just happy to play games with his friends - and has no idea what he signed them up for.

Given that it is an animation, they totally could have had the Gatekeeper age and decrepify like in the original game as time went on.
When Andy and Luke are doing Disney-style maniacal laughs and Mike goes "can you go back to silently staring at me please?"
Also I really wanted to play this in the 90s but never got it
I blinked so many times when Luke was doing the staring contest. What kind of magic that he didn't blink?

@@Amaranthyne Actually, the gatekeeper was insulting the characters. There was one bit where he was making jokes about the characters' fates. Like how that vampire lady sucks and stuff

For maximum scare factor, just after the Gatekeeper fades away in the "Don't blink" encounter they should replace him with an image of an angel statue.

This is what media has led me to believe life is like at a british boarding school.
Luke was so invested in that stare contest, but the only punishment for failing was losing a key, and he didnt have any...
So many amazing moments, instant classic! Still can't tell if my favourite is Luke and Black -Boomerang- Key saga or the fears reveal at the end. 😂 Would love a repeat of this with Ellen, Jane, Johnny and/or Producer John to see if they can beat the Gatekeeper!
God, the progression of the fears as revealed was just perfect. From “wasps all around” (a perfectly reasonable thing to fear) to “cheese is made illegal” (a bit odd, but otherwise understandable) to the frantic, bafflingly specific yet esoteric “psychosexual gnomes”. I love this game, I’ll have to get it in for Christmas

Played the original again a couple of weeks ago. Lights out, candles burning, winds (outside) howling - it was great and will always be my favorite :-)

Man, I haven't got screamed and bullied by a virtual board game master since Star Trek Next Generation The Interactive Board Game on VHS.
Copyright issues aside, I'd love to see the OxBoxtra crew contend with Captain Kavok someday.

I had the original one with the vhs and I gotta say I think I prefer the look of practical effects instead of cgi 🤔

If you ever want to play this again, the full VHS versions of Nightmare/Atmosfear 1-4 are uploaded to RUclips. You'd obviously just need the old board setup.
I kinda miss the guy in makeup though, not gonna lie... the new face and voice doesn't quite cut it

Oh man this was so fun!! I loved this game as a kid and when my friends started being "too cool" for it it broke my heart. To see you guys really get into it and be earnest with it made me want to get it again as an adult! Thank you for sharing.
wow what an ending, wow that was so close, can't help but wonder if mike used the immunity earlier from Luke sending him back if he would of won, that or take 2 free turns to get closer.

I had a Todd Mcfarlane action figure of Elizabeth Bathory. It was her relaxing in a bathtub full of blood, with a candelabra that had three young women's heads impaled on it. My parents got me the whole Historical Horror set from Mcfarlane Toys, including Jack the Ripper, Genghis Khan, Vlad the Impaler, and Rasputin... for Christmas. *shrug, they appreciated the craftsmanship.

Dear lord, I played the original VHS version of this game and had completely forgotten the name of it. All I remembered was that dang Gatekeeper. He had that same Staring Contest then to, and I managed to defeat him like Luke did, but he didn't start making a face if I recall correctly - Well Done, Mr Westaway. You've got to play this again and bring Jane and Ellen in on it. The amount of sass that would get thrown back in the Gatekeeper's face... _~chef's fingers kiss~_

I'm sorry but the OG Gatekeeper and other hosts from the expansions before the expansions got cancelled just sounded more scary, not to mention Baron Samedi on tape 2 was funny and jiggy and a pretty cool guy for a zombie and even danced in the music video on tape 4, yes there was a dance song for the game, and apparently according to wikipedia Michael Jackson and Pepsi made a crossover commercial with Nightmare/AtmosFEAR once but I can't find any recordings of said commercial

the original board game's instructions has an option for party mode where you pick your characters a week ahead of the game and then show up to the game dressed like the characters you picked

I picked up the original from a goodwill in college. It's one of go to favorites now. It's bizzare and hilarious.
