Great video. I get a lot of diatoms in my pond which makes the rocks inside the pond go brown. How can I get rid of diatoms? I know diatoms are good but they look unsightly.
Rainwater question. I am planning on doing rainwater catchment. Should I expect algae blooms after each rain or will a little extra bacteria solve the issue?
Hi im getting a slimmy brown thing in the bottom and side of my pond. The water is not green. Wanted to know if this is an algae and what should be done to remove it.
If you throw some lime or fertilizer in that pond it will clear up the water and slug on top of the water. I the old days everyone had cows and they peeing and pooed in the pond and it fertilized the pond but now days most people don't have cows or horses.
Excellent point!!! We have used wood ash for years, and have found that oak seems to do well. It's uncommon, so I omitted it from the video. Thanks for pointing that out. Not many people know of its uses. I found this article online for other readers that may see this thread. :) You are awesome! :) -Carl lifeonpigrow.blogspot.com/2017/02/uses-for-wood-ash.html?m=1
These are some great tips. I learned some new things today! Thanks for your posting!
Have a couple customers that overfeed and wont stop it is really frustrating.
Yep. It's taken me throwing out their tetra fish sticks to make the point a few times.
Very informative, a helpful tool to save and refer to.
Thanks very much!

Peroxide kills diatoms. we sell on columbia water gardens .com ecoblast. it is a dry peroxide and it will kill diatoms.
@@ColumbiaWaterGardens thanks is it safe for fish and aquatic plants? Can you send me a link for the product please.

Add bacteria before the rain, and you'll be ahead of the curve.

That's either beneficial bacteria or diatoms. Either way, it's good.
Love the new opening!!! Great vlog on pond algae....
Put's Ponds Thanks Dan!
I’m going to redo the audio commentary.... I think it’s too long and bland.
I'm going to work on my b roll more..... I like the format of a newscast.
Thanks for the tips!

Frank Corona Thanks Frank. This was my first attempt at a top ten video..... after doing one, I have ideas how to make it better next time. :)
Very useful, thank you! Greetings from Bali
Glad it was helpful!
What's the name of the red flower plants in your pond?
Where in the video are you seeing them?
OR you could just use 1 cup of HARD-WOOD-ASH spread of 1500 sq ft surface, it will take care of most algae.

The main thing you have to watch is the PH swing.
I have a lot of wood ash from tropical wood. Is it safe for fish?
@@annetnedelec1313 Probably not. A lot of tropical woods are poisonous. Whether the poison survives burning, depends on what the poison is.
blood really , because pond keepers are always bleeding in their ponds ....... not
Heck yeah, bro! It's a real thing :)
Thanks for the good info.
