    Dont forget the most important step. Setting your interface instrument input dBu level on the INPUT block in tonocracy and then setting your gain knob to ZERO (can be found in your interface manual under tech specifications). Yes, it makes a massive difference to how the profiles react and sound.

    Steven, do you feel using NAM amps w/in Tonocracy is a better option than using NAM alone or using PatchWork, Mod.Audio, or other to set up a rig/chain? Are you using NAM itself w/in Tonocracy or one of NAM's .nam amp files?

    • @stevenkambach
      @stevenkambach  4 месяца назад +3

      I don't think any one is better than the other. It all comes down to preference. NAM probably uses less CPU than all the others, but has less features. For recording I would probably use NAM and playing on my own or live I would use Tonocracy because of the effects. You just need the NAM files to run them in Tonocracy

  • @iurigrang
    @iurigrang 4 месяца назад +3

    The EQ section is not post amp. It tries to emulate an amp EQ (not the EQ of the amp that was profiled, but how an amp EQ generally reacts), and, as such, significantly changes the character of the distortion.

    I tried it. Maybe it wasn't for me. I always wonder if there is a problem with my stratocaster that some amp sims just sound awful or is just that they are oriented to metal with guitars with more metal pickups D:
    The clean and crunch tones I got were Ok, but nothing great, to be honest.
    Again, it must be my guitar, but to this day I've found nothing that beats my Guitar Rig 5/6. I can get distort and clean sounds there that in my case totally kicks this.
    Also, I hate that it has iLok. And the CPU consumption is 2~3 times GR with a worse sound (IMHO). I decided to uninstall it.
    PS: Very nice video and very well explained, direct to the point!

    • @stevenkambach
      @stevenkambach  4 месяца назад +1

      There is definitely some room to grow for clean and crunch tones on amp sims. They do the heavy stuff well, but it is hard to compare to a nice amp in a room. I think from an audience perspective, it is usually close enough at this point, but from the players perspective it lacks something. Thank you ❤️

      I have Guitar rig 5 as well , I tried many free/trial guitar effects software but they sounded bad and so much delay in real time. Guitar rig 5 still the best in my opinion ,the stock preset are already that good . I have Fender stratocaster Hss and I can even play metal tone with it😅

    • @learningforever957
      @learningforever957 4 месяца назад

      @@benjoshd3386I never had any delay issues with other softwares, but the feel when playing them never beat my experience with Guitar Rig. Is the closest feeling I had of playing on my real amp. Both the clean and distort sounds sound with so much depth compared to every amp sim I tried. I can also get lots of metal tones in my stratocaster.
      Glad to hear that I'm not the only one and that I'm not crazy :D

    • @serpentsbane9166
      @serpentsbane9166 4 месяца назад

      Make sure to always set your Audio Interface input level / gain control all the way down. This is to get as accurate a response as possible from your amp sims. This is probably the reason why Metal guys seem to gravitate towards plugins and Clean / Classic Rock players seem to struggle to get good tones, because you are adding more gain before the amp sim than there would be if you were to plug your guitar straight in to the real amp, which masks the issue for us Metal guys as we generally go for more saturated distortion tones... Check out a video by Ed S called how to set optimal input levels for amp sim plugins to learn more. Hope this helps! \m/ @@learningforever957
