as a Romanian (which we speak the same language as moldavians) and as an automotive engineer of more than 10 years, i can confirm the video looks real. That Tesla is driving on FSD in Moldavia. I don't know exactly how, cause the driver just stated he uses a special box to make it work. The Tesla was imported from USA, it was damaged and repaired and it had FSD originally. I think it was somehow 'hacked'. apart from that i know for a fact (because i was several times in Chisinau, the city it drove), that the roads there are horrific. And the driving there is VERY chaotic, i mean very. A lot of moldavians drive very chaotic without any regard for signs. As a romanian with more that 15years as a driver i sometimes am scared to drive there. I was trully shocked Tesla handled it that well. But maybe i am biased a little being a Tesla shareholder.
I haven't driven in Chisinau as I wasn't with the car there, I still remember it was messy, but I'm really curious when we would see self driving Teslas in Bucharest. The traffic here is horrendous and is not that it's moving slow, but there you have to do a lot of manuvers and chaging lanes where it's not properly painted cars parked on strange places, I find it a true test of decision making and intelligence for AI.
In the end the question is when, not if
car is cracked to work in Moldova, it says in the comments of the video. It should not make any difference of where it is, if Tesla decides to enable it, will work everywhere, just a matter of time. People don't realise and keep bashing Musk and he keeps proving them wrong. It is what it is.. :))
TSLA UP!
Thank you for this. Is it true Europe is trying to change the laws for self-driving?
@@anthonyballog8026 Yes!
I am romanian speaking the same language as Moldavians. The driver said in the video he imported the Tesla from USA it had an accident in USA brought it to Moldavia and repaired it. He said the FSD is actually using OpenStreetMap maps not google maps. Beside this he said he used FSD to drive in Romania (European country) where roads are in normal conditions (no holes, proper signs, proper markings) and the FSD performed flawlessly and much better than on Moldavian roads which lack markings and signs. All of this considering FSD is not officially released in EU countries as far as I know.
Waymo drives the exact same roads every day. In terms of unique miles driven, no one touches Teslas numbers. Tesla still needs to get on the ball
I think the key difference is way-mo is geofenced while tesla can drive anywhere so long as you turn on FSD
@@Nairraider true, but driving with interventions everywhere, is not necessarily equivalent to driving better in tiny parts of cities driverless.
@@rickkay9548 Oh for sure, at the moment in the geofenced areas waymo is better, but tesla fsd is rapidly improving and eventually it will be far better than waymo even in the geofenced areas.
@@Nairraider exactly right. Teslas geofences are ocean borders. Much harder problem
Correct me if I’m wrong, but doesn’t waymo have remote drivers to get them out of complex situations? Does their intervention count as a “disengagement”? I’d think not.
You’re not wrong, the shadow drivers were intervening every 13 minutes.
Comparison between FSD and Waymo is comparing apples to oranges. Waymo operates in a geo fenced area and FSD doesn’t. I routinely intervene FSD to stop for certain activities that a Waymo user cannot so I would guess the real intervention rate would be much lower for FSD.
I have been using 12.3.6 for a few days now. I rarely see any real intervention.
best to have the comparison in the same geofenced area if comparison is to be done with Waymo
well if waymo works as robotaxi at 17k MPI then thats a good benchmark up to where FSD needs to be in order to qualify for robotaxi service
@@chuan1955 But FSD aims to do **without** geofencing. And without $300k worth of exotic sensors (FSD gets by with video streams from eight cheap cameras feeding a Tesla-customized computer).
Me either. In my case zero real interventions
I think alot of intervention is just the way fsd drive isn't the same as how a human drive . Like highway lane change in traffic, fsd will wait for a opening and aggressively slip on , where as I will slowly push in to the other lane .
Both way driving is safe
You should have pointed out that comparing Tesla's MPI vs. Waymo is not a fair comparison, since Waymo is on a very boundary limited area and is not really working like the Tesla does. Waymo can't work just anywhere and is limited to specific areas and specific roads. Tesla works anywhere.
The video from Moldova is real. It is an US imported model Y. The driver said he had to guide the car on the left lane as the right lane is a bus lane that is not properly marked. He also said that he drove a few times in Romania, the lanes and signs were correctly set and he was able to drive tens of kilometers without intervention there.
In the early 1900's railroads had eliminated the wagon and stagecoach industries, the the "Automobile" was supplanting the remainder of the once ubiquitous horse. Exhaust fumes replaced MILLIONS of TONS of horse crap that filled streets and corals daily. Walking on city streets without being drowned in six feet of horse poop and rotting animals was literally amazing. Cowboys had to trade six shooters for meals. Wealthy ranchers became homeless. Today, personal car ownership is dead. The Robots are here.
Even on 12.3.6, I find that many of my interventions aren't really even interventions (e.g.: I disengage to stop at my mailbox at the beginning of my driveway, or FSD gets me all the way home, up my (long) driveway and sitting in front of my garage before stopping. At that point, I have to disengage only to back my Tesla into the garage). I always give a voice memo so that they know there is nothing wrong but I wonder how much those false disengagements are negatively skewing stats.
The real important stat that isn't skewed is the "Critical" disengagement value. That value is actually 140 miles in the city.
Same
@@petemiller519 needs to get up to 17k MPI to match waymo massive difference
@@emanuelerubino8175 i don’t believe that figure at all. I recently saw video suggesting Waymo intervened remotely every 3 or 4 miles
Mine gets me home but then ever so slowly drive over the curb when I don't disengage. Navigate to a house at the end of Cul-De-Sac (repeatable). We have soft curb in FL, residential areas so no risk of damage.
My experience on 12.3 is great. Intervening sometimes where lane changes are going into lane that ends soon and i have to use acceleration to move up to correct spot on 4 way stop signs and to prevent stop go stop go confusion. Easy adjustment except the wrong lane merging
Great update Farzad! Backed up with data .. love it ! Won’t be long now
I appreciate this FSD update; it clears the facts from the smoke. FSD is the biggest thing going in Tesla, EVs, cars, gps.... concrete update.
Everyone please take a deep breath and remember what a strong leader Elon Musk is. Thanks, Farzad.
That's hard to see. FSD seems much lower revenue potential than EV or energy. CyberTruck and AI have taken Tesla off its path toward 20 million EVs a year, and into Musk's new interests. He says that he's bored with horse carriages (or at least it's reasonable to interpret his words that way). But EV is still the main moneymaker. And part of the main mission, unlike FSD.
@@bearcubdaycare Being able to outsource the components associated with FSD is the future. Thanks.
@@bearcubdaycare It is profit that counts, for software it is 100%. And this subscription income repeat itself every month. Look at Microsoft Office pack subscription, Google advertising backup cloud storage monthly fees, Apple Music/iCloud backup etc. On top of that insurance companies may lower Tesla's car fees, if the car has FSD. Much less accidents and casualties.
@@bearcubdaycareI think it was always the focus self driving I mean and everything else was a means to an end and we are closer to that end now so we see
More focus publicly!
He's not though. He's been promising perfect FSD since 2016, then 2019 etc... And still, we're not there. Nowhere close.
Tesla would honestly be better without Elon at the wheel. I'd invest way more without him there.
My interventions are preference and not due to safety or other reasons. I generally drive fast, sometimes FSD is just too slow.
I just received the FSD trial this past Friday and I am amazed at how accurate it drives. The only two bigger issues I have is my Y accelerates way too fast and it doesn’t slow down in front of school zones, big moving violation ticket on LI. Hopefully the newer version will fix this.
Do you put your MY in ‘chill’ mode? That seems to cut back on the fast FSD accelerations that one sees when Tesla is in ‘sport’ mode.
@@paul88824 Yes. I put both FSD and acceleration in Chill mode. Neither seamed to make a difference unfortunately.
DON’T FORGET THE REMOTE MONITORS ON WAYMO AND CRUISE… This changes the comparison and makes it more fair!!!
Drove it twice in the last 2 days. Good, but still fails in some obvious situations. First, a disabled Semi, with warning triangles placed along side it, was not properly recognized. Was parked on the right shoulder, close to the right lane. My car was in the right lane, with no one in the left, and the car did not move over at all and passed dangerously close to the semi.
Second instance, warning signs of loose gravel due to transectional pavement cut-outs as temporary patches, was again ignored as the car drove over the area at highway speed rather than slow down to account for the poor condition of the patches. Also does not plan lane changes based on traffic. i.e. knowing when early rather than late changes are appropriate based on the traffic flow/denisty. It does a lot well, but there is a way to go before I'd consider it robo-taxi ready.
Cars With FSD will be the most requested feature by buys in 2 years, all other car companies not providing this will be at a severe disadvantage
Yes
I've used the "different country driving" example before.
Its just "experience" (Data)
I thought Waymo had a bunch of shadow interventions. Didn’t that come out with the last accident? I thought it was something like a remote intervention every few minutes!?!?
Don’t know about Wayne but pretty sure GM Cruise had these behind the scenes/remote interventions
Even if that isn't true. Their cars only go on pre-mapped roads, and if there is some kind of construction they still get stuck more often then not as far as i could see. Probably the main reason tesla cars have 360 miles per intervention is bcs a lot of people are intentionally trying to drive the cars thru difficult scenarios and mark the problem. Imagine what will happen to Waymo stats if people start doing that with their cars.
Waymo intervention every 3 or 4 miles driven as far as I recall
They probably only recorded cases where the car got stuck and needed a person to get it unstuck. Driving in the wrong lane, not obeying the road signs, etc will not be counted because the AI thought it was correct.
12.3.6 I've had this version now for a couple of weeks and we all need to slow down with all the enthusiasm over how well everyone thinks its going.
I've had to intervene multiple times in situations were had I not it would've caused an accident. Although true that 12.3.6 is working better than previous versions. We are still a very long way to go in my opinion.
Hey Farzad - what is that dashboard you were reviewing? Did you make it yourself?
I believe the Waymo interventions are much higher "quality" than Tesla's. Tesla drivers often disengage due to driving preference. So safety critical disengagements probably already occur far less often for Tesla's FSD.
I prefer to not hit another car, a child, or a concrete wall. Those aren't just "driving preferences"
These types of occurrences happen very frequently
@@VoltaicVisionsa Tesla intervention isn’t always what you think it is. It could be they want to go faster or suddenly want to take over and change to another destination
Great update on the fsd tracker. Didn't know that existed. More data like that makes it more real and more difficult to FUD.
I’ve taken a Waymo 6 times now and all the rides were great. One was in the rain, dark and involved roundabouts with aggressive drivers trying to cut it off. Already had my one month FSD trial and tried it several times before it ended and then I got 2 more updates afterwards related to FSD. Currently waiting on the “Spring” update for UI etc.
FSD was pretty cool to experience in a personal car but so far I’m not interested in paying for it. Autopilot is enough for me most of the time and I really enjoy driving the car myself.
Seems like it is an UNFAIR comparison by NOT including the REMOTE MONITORS on Waymo and Cruise that say they intervene on drives every 3-5 miles or so.
FSD still needs a LOT of work here in VA. My biggest problem is it creeps at the worst times....assertive mode has been anything but. Say what you want about FSD...I find I am more on edge and anxious than when I am driving myself. Also Summon was deactivated during my free trial which is really my fav feature over all. 😂
I got 12.3 fad update but still not summon…. My rental had a summon and that was really the icing on the cake for me . Can’t wait to have that in my app 💪
Great video bro! Liked and subscribed!
For every announced “major” improvement, Tesla should allow a 3 day trial to see if the improvements are finally worth either subscribing or buying.
Does a "no-intervention" drive mean that you don't have to touch the controls to pull in and out of your garage or a parking space? Like, never touching the wheel from when you get in until when you get out of the car?
Yep. Right now im sitting in my Tesla model Y, in Moscow with FSD 12.3.6 enabled! Works quite well, not so good as it was in US, but gets its job done. The worst part that it struggles with traffic lights situation, sometimes goes on red. I can send you a video, if you want)
Most of my FSD interventions are to park at the destination (especially since the map doesn't know exactly where my house is!) or to change the inefficient path that the navigation wants to drive. I DO occasionally still see FSD get in a tirn only lane when navigating straight ahead.
I signed up for FSD for my 2022 Model 3 performance. I only have v11.4 FSD software. Why is that, if v12 is out?
One of the biggest hurdles for Tesla to jump is paying their incredible CEO something. Can anybody name a CEO that has done anything as much and not gotten paid?! Thanks! 🙏
Ireland loves you Farzad - next time you are here hit up some of the Tesla owners club or some EV clubs
I tried the FSD today for the first time and I was blown away 🤯🤯
how does that site have the data about FSD's disengagements?
If tesla manages to maintain a considerable rate of miles per disengagement improvement with every large update, that's gonna send an indeniable message about FSD that people aren't going to be able to ignore or work their mental gymnastics to deny it.
Thanks!
Mark my words. The other competitors are faking their numbers af. Waymo numbers are fake. Human operator are taking over waymos via remote all the time -> official no disengagement - but it is!
But Tesla’s numbers are real?
I disengage all the time but it's because the navigation system doesn't always map out effective route.
Pls explain about “single stack”?
I don’t know if it’s just me but seems like v12.3.6 is getting better as we go. I been noticing a pattern where new versions gets a bit wacky first few days but as the system “settles “ into the new software, I have noticed it’s “correcting” some initial issues with this version. Is there an explanation for this?
What does a Waymo intervention mean if there’s no driver? What triggers it?
Interestingly enough the video also showed the blue bar or nag screen, flashing on and off at the top of the screen.
Also, pls explain “implicit stack on highways”?
How much data could the semi collect? Had a thought when the semi started to roll out that it may be important for approval. Semi are driven by a professional driver that'll train & collect FSD data.
@farzyness what are your thoughts on cars without FSD paid for or leased being able to use the robo taxi network app to send their car out to work? Maybe Tesla splits profit or something like that.
Question: regarding disengagements, how do you turn off FSD at the end of a trip? Every time I arrive at my destination on FSD and turn it off I get the message asking why I disengaged. I respond "arrived at destination" since nothing was wrong, I just needed to turn it off. I don't want to enter unnecessary disengagements. Love your channel! Good luck on baby watch!
Hey you! Long time, no see!😊
Can disengagement really be compared? Got Waymo that works in a few cities vs Tesla working the whole country. Waymo can simply avoid something it can't do while Tesla is going to find a lot more edge cases.
And as others said, some interventions are not actual interventions.
Correct. It's not an apple:apple comparison. Waymo will have mapped stuff on its allowed routes. Tesla is operating throughout the entire country, encountering all sorts of weird stuff.
my experience as a first time fsd user with the free 30 day trial was a combination of wonder and several terrifying moments.
i would not trust it hands off at all, somewhat on the highway but it was still very frustrating to use often enough.
i drove something like 1000 miles with it
also i had to intervene several times a drive in south florida
TSLA UP!

X let that SINK in. 😮
I think a case can be made that FSD has been gathering data on Europe roads for years in shadow mode, and they're by and large just waiting to turn it on
I cannot wait for 12.4.
Almost all of my disengagements are related to comfort, efficiency, or embarrassment. I've only had a couple where I thought there was any significant risk with letting it proceed, which it very well may have corrected on its own anyway.
There is another thing to think about when considering miles per disengagement. Let’s say you have 1 million robotaxis driving at say 30 miles per hour. That’s 30 million miles driven per hour. At 300 miles per disengagement, that’s 100,000 disengagements per hour. Now assume you have employees who are watching cameras to take over when there is a problem (same as waymo). And one person can fix 10 car disengagements per hour, then you need 10,000 employees watching cameras. THIS is the number that matters. How many employees are needed to be hired to watch cameras on the robotaxis.
Also another thing to consider: 10,000 employees to monitor (drive) 1 million robotaxis, and assume employees cost $50/hr and robotaxi makes $50/hr, then employees cost 1% of robotaxi revenue. These are all just assumptions but it illustrates what the metric “miles per disengagement” really means.
What does this mean using this approach for the Optimus robot?
That is much better than I thought for miles per critics disengagement. I would have thought 50 miles.
3:56 wait a minute. So Zoox is leading by a country mile? Why are you not talking about this? Second place in the telescope to see Zoox right now. Never even knew that. Why do I never hear anything about Zoox?
I have NOT received the FREE 1 Month V12 and I own a 2023 Tesla Model Y Long Range AWD (Austin Built) and I live in Los Angeles. AND, when will we be able to receive tge V12 while subscribed to the monthly FSD?
Tesla deciding to unveil the cyber cab this year says a lot. They know more than the public as to the rate of increase in improvement in FSD.
Average miles driven between accidents in the US is 500,000 miles. We need a few 10x improvements to get there. Waymo reportedly has teleoperators taking over for them when required.
Very interesting analysis. Can you please follow up (using FSD tracker’s data) in a few weeks to see if Elon’s prediction came true?
The main reason to focus on a small geographic region for FSD would be while you're spending too much compute in many parallel paths. If the paths are not longer parallel or is compute is no longer a bottleneck it makes sense to expand to other areas.
BTW Waymo started operating driverless in 2019 with only 13000 MPCI. So if this is the target for MVP for driverless, we should definitely see a test with-driver very soon running on V12.5. And if the test start end of June, then get an approval for announcing the initial test of the driverless Phase during August 8 event, then run this test over V12.6 in Sept / October in order to have the release + approval DMV deployment on V13 around the 20th of December (just on time for my birthday ;-))
I used FSD 12.3.6 for a couple of days and my mind was blown. Zero disengagements(2 minor accelerator pedal pushes) over ~200miles driven.
My worry is around a specific case of turns in T-intersections where there is a blindspot due to absence of A-pillar camera. Humans can crane their neck for a better view but FSD can only do a roll-forward check which could be a problem in certain scenarios and make it unsafe. Curious how they will work around this...
I think the issue is less about camera placement and more about fsd 12.3.6 not moving fast enough to make an unprotected turn; or pulling out slightly too far into an intersection; it takes too long to move even when there are no cars. It’s still too indecisive at times (eg lane wobble)
I have new Model Y with EAP operating in Sydney Australia. It does no recognise all speed signs correctly and can speed up in the wrong zone. It phantom brakes so many times in cross city tunnels I have to turn it off which means I effectively have no basic cruise control in that situation. If it is on and you are one pedal driving in city traffic when the cars in front move forward from being stopped at a traffic light it will speed up to the speed limit even if you have the blinker on and are turning a corner. This means the car can and has unexpectedly sped up going around a corner. On freeways it does not see far enough ahead and only starts to slow 7 car lengths from a halt in traffic. This is not nearly far enough when you doing 110 kph and the traffic ahead has stopped dead. EAP in Australia borders on being dangerous and should require a thorough education of new users before they take it on.
As soon as I heard they were going to focus on robotaxi next, and that they were using AI instead of code and that we were seeing massive improvements in FSD... I knew Tesla realized they cracked the code so to speak and now had a window of opportunity to take advantage of. I see huge payoffs for Tesla as a result. Nice work!

So glad that we finally have some numbers to measure the improvement in FSD and to know that Tesla actually have that data and disclosed it. Why is that data not communicated widely? Can’t wait to see some videos on FSD 12.4. I really hope this turns out to be more than just unrealistic optimism/confidence from Elon.
As for the auto CEO who is just going to wait and see what happens in the autonomy space - wise choice I’d be doing the same. Implement autonomy by copying Tesla without all the R&D cost . Not everyone wants to own a Tesla, many people hate Elon and wouldn’t dream of buying one. Cars are more than just transport - they are an expression of our personalities it’s just not ALL about practicality and getting the best car. Consumer buying patterns will reflect this. IMO the Tesla model 3 and S should be killing it - by far the best vehicles for the money yet Tesla sales figures don’t reflect this……
I always disengage to do something on my phone, change a podcast, turn on RUclips, do something on the screen etc etc, otherwise I get strikes all the time. I wonder how many others do the same?
In Moldova, navigating to an address would seem to be a problem , wouldn't you agree? Drop out of FSD to make turns and then put it back on to continue, I guess? No actual navigation by the car.
There will be improvements in general driving scenarios, but there are some tough situations that require advanced higher level thinking, cognition, and understanding that FSD may have always have trouble with. You may have encountered some difficult scenarios yourself, as I did, while trying 12.3.6. Sometimes, things are not as they appear to be, and for those situations that are difficult because the roadway design itself is very odd, I think those situations will eventually be solved with additional “training”. But, I believe the inferred social contract between drivers presents an even tougher challenge. Who yields to who, impacted by weather, road conditions, signals functioning or malfunctioning, visibility, hand signals, a smile, a nod, a polite or impolite gesture. It goes on and on. There are cultural differences with these fine points of driving as well. I think it may be necessary to display to other drivers and pedestrians that a vehicle is in auto-driven mode. Then the others in nearby proximity can make allowances for the fact that the vehicle operates by certain rules, and that it is essentially blind to all of the common gestures and social contract understandings that manually driven vehicles expect from one another. Not to say that FSD will not be able to achieve autonomous function, but that nearby participants on and near the roadway, can react appropriately when conflicts emerge between themselves and autonomous vehicles.
I am 99.99999% sure the video from moldova is legit. There are 2 issues from my pov at the moment. The car is unable to recognize pothholes in the road, And sometimes is way too agressive in overtaking stationary cars although another car comes towards it
most of the “5 to 10x improvements” will likely come from reduction in non critical disengagements but that would still be extremely significant. Also i believe many of waymos miles are achieved via a remote driver though i may be mistaken
How would waymo interventions look like if the passengers were checking everything in the driver's seat?
It’s not going 20 in School zones
It started doing that with 12.3.6 when the speed limit marking is clear. It still has problems otherwise. School zone marking should be a little separated from the speed limit signage.
I think school zones have an added layer of complexity in that they sometimes put out temporary signs on cones and in some places those speed limits only apply "when children are present" or "during school hours". In my area that extends to some No Right Turn on Red signs that have additional verbiage "when pedestrians are in crosswalk".
In our area the speed limit changes when children are present. So it's 35 when no children are present but 25 when there are children visible anywhere. What I see is that it seems to default to the lower speed whether children are present or not.
School zones where I live have blinking yellow lights above and below a 20mph sign when 20mph limit is effective. FSD ignores it.
guess it learns from humans 😜
Thanks Z, for keeping it objective. The Cyber Bulls would never dare show FSD Tracker stats.
This is not a good comparison. Mr Z needs to bring up that this is not an apples to apples comparison !!! REMOTE DRIVERS INTERVENE CONSTANTLY!!!

FSD should be installed on some of those huge pickup trucks racing down the highways, weaving in and out of lanes like a sports car.
how would tesla use a model that has heavy data featuring left sided steering wheel countries and then be able to apply that to countries with right sided steering wheels? different models? seems like an issue to me
FARZAD - its very CLEAR Legacy auto hasn't the 1st CLUE.
Anyone knows if EAP may continue to work just like FSD since EAP is no longer an option to buy?
I've been using it sporadically, and it is very, very impressive. Pretty scary good actually. My kids won't need to learn how to drive :/ I'm still processing that. Not sure how I feel about that yet.
Fsd in Moldova? I though North America had only access..
People need to keep in mind too that waymo is not driving anywhere. Waymo operates in certain designated spots using lidar and with roads mapped out.
Tesla is the only self-driving solution that's completely general purpose through advanced AI
Moldova was mentioned 😁
Finally just got FSD 12.4 today on my new Model S to begin my one month free trial and hear me out here ... there's a lot it gets right but it's really hard convincing people to pay for FSD when it hard curbs their wheels while cornering at city street speeds on it's first drive. Just saying 😖
All I want is the Tesla is stock to go up
Thank you. New terminology for us mpi. Elon said we need about 6 billion miles for fsd. We will have this in 9-14 months but everyone sees how good it is getting since v12. China is coming soon and I hear Europe is scrambling to change their laws. Can u make a vid on this?
If waymo has external support intervene every 13 minutes at 60mph , then every 780 miles waymo has interventions , tesla target needs to be at least 1000m and getting better
No way I would trust it until it learns how to actually read signs and understand them. It has a lot of trouble with any situation that requires actual intelligence, like construction zones, etc
That would very likely require artificial general intelligence, which unfortunately hasn't been invented yet
It’s very difficult to make predictions about the future, especially, based on Elon Musk’s comments. But it’s a way of making a living if you’re a RUclips influencer.
Is Tesla still going to $48,000.00
If the car can drive in second world countries with FSD would it be able to download data to improve self driving through Starlink? Would the country need its own data center or data infrastructure?
I just got FSD last night. Drove to work and I disengaged to park. Does that count against the numbers?
Have to give it to Farzad. He’s able to make the longest news videos out of one tweet.
