    I tell you one thing that learning is never a challenge fo student but its application in question is

      Know how to apply the knowledge is very important, yes! I don’t like how most university systems involve just memorising information, it should be more about the application

    Hey Jessica,
    thank you for your great video:)! I would like to know in what kind of learning environment did you prefer to study? I love going to the library and study over there for hours. And i have to say i am curious about your past study schedule. I know it is maybe hard to recap since it has been so long ago. However i guess a video about an example how your uni day used to look like and how you used to incorporate your study sessions would be interesting. I struggle with time. Sometimes i get stuck with details- For example after visiting an organic chemistry lecture i will check some chapters of the topic in the textbook and summarize in detail. Yet that seems to be too time consuming. (Especially when you are at uni almost everyday from 8 a.m to 5 p.m. and doesn’t have much time) I usually end up neglecting other subjects then. I know the keyword may be prioritizing and consistency. Someone advised me that I should in general spend more time with practising exercising and prioritize the lab days (preparation) during the semester.
    Xxx Sabbel…

      Hi Sabbel! I preferred studying from home because it would mean that I didn’t need to get ready and travel to the university so I had more time for studying. If I was starting to feel a little crazy at home then I would go to the library to study with my class mates :)
      When I had classes / labs, I would mainly be studying in the form of making sure I understood what was going on during the lectures and reading over some notes. I also worked part time so I didn’t have a full 9-5 day for classes and studying.
      Perhaps a month before the exam I would start to study ‘properly’, trying to memorise the concepts and refreshing my memory of what I was learning during the lectures. Before the summer exams we would have about 3 weeks off (Easter holidays and one week of study break) so I would use my holidays for studying.
      I hope this helps! It is difficult to fit everything in and I wish university was less of a memorising game!

      Dear Jessica,
      thank you for giving me a glimpse into your study routine and some study tips 😊!!! It is helpful since I am always trying to implement some new but fitting study ‘elements’ into my study routine!
      I absolutely agree with your point, that is unfortunate that studying at uni means sometimes more memorising than having a deeper understanding. Sometimes, I feel that universities are contradictory in their purpose and what they should impart to us. For example, we should engage in profound discussions, be able to formulate our own theories, and critically evaluate them based on rules and concepts that are conveyed to us. Only then can we shape the future innovatively. For the most part, we are introduced to these aspects at universities. However, like any other educational institution, the university has the problem of being too focused and oriented towards the grading system. The university system also operates based on time, and consequently, the grading system is tailored to measure the application of knowledge in a convenient, rapid form: grades. This, in turn, leads to many important aspects of studying being sidelined, and the institution increasingly transforms into a place of rote learning. It's no wonder that unfortunately, students can no longer perform transfer tasks as effectively. I could write about this topic for ages.
      Furthermore, to thrive at the university, one must be very well-organized. Sometimes, I tend to overlook this point. Prioritizing, in particular, means that I won't/can't be optimal in everything (although prioritizing doesn't necessarily exclude being optimal in everything at the same time). Self-management entails knowing oneself well. Only then can one optimize their learning strategy and set realistic goals for their studies or other areas of life. Finding that balance can be tricky at times.I also believe that this aspect gets lost in our system. Getting to know oneself and not simply following the crowd is essential. I like that you emphasise this in your video repeatedly.
      Thanks for taking your time to respond! Can’t wait what is going to come next!!!
      Nice greetings xxxxxx

    I could relate so much when you said you wrote everything down. Do you use tools such as notion or one note or do you do it the traditional way, i.e. notebooks?

    • @drjessicagomezb
      @drjessicagomezb  Год назад

      It takes a long time but it was really the only way for me 😅 I used to use traditional notebooks and often type out quick summaries of topics. Now I like to use my iPad and I use an app called Good Notes and my Apple Pencil! I find it easier to find notes later on as I can have them everywhere (on my phone) and you can search for words in your digital notebooks!
