Its actually just 1 lowpass, 12 bandpass and a highpass. The input signal is split in 14 chanells, one for each filter, then it sums them after the filtering. Each of those filters are "fixed" to a certain frequency, which means the lowpass will only let audio from 0-125hz pass, each of the bandpass filters will allow audio around the fixed frequency (like 1000hz for example). Each knob controlls the "volume" of the filtered signal. This means you can sculpt the sound spectrum, which in practice can be using some basic saw waves to create choir-like synths and ambience, mimic the resonance from a string instrument, or shaping noise to simulate air blows.
