It's so ridiculous that Ohio St didn't have half their players get a 1 game suspension for the Michigan game. They literally had to pepper spray 20+ players and needed cop intervention. Why are they here. I guess I'm rooting for Notre Dame, can't believe I'm saying that

Saban staying at LSU would have been scary hours. What he did with the 2003 team was crazy with a dentist at QB. And how he turned around a dumpster fire program that was going nowhere in the late 90s. Then he bounces for the NFL right when recruiting talent would have skyrocketed to match his Coaching, so he never got to capitalize on the Natty win at LSU. He'd have more titles with LSU than he won at Bama.

@ Maybe not, but close. Michigan lost to Illinois and got killed by the good teams like Oregon and Texas, who Ohio State dismantled. The loss for Ohio State was just a fluke, nothing more. You know the '79 Steelers won the Superbowl and are considered one of the great teams of all time. They lost a regular season to Cincinnati, who was 4-12 that year. No one cares and everyone knows it was just a bad game for the Steelers.

Can we stop acting like regular season loses don’t matter? Yes the Michigan loss mattered, it’s the reason they were the 8 seed and had to play an additional game and the #1 seed in the second round! This notion that losses “mean less” is moronic. If anything the CFP has made the conference championship losses mean less due to the committees reluctance to punish teams who don’t win those games

  • @prestongrissom9287

Those who did not grow up in the rivalry don’t really understand it. All babies born at The OSU hospital during the week of The Game get Beat Michigan swag. It’s a way to introduce the next generation to the rivalry. The schools have competitions leading up to The Game to promote service and add to the rivalry. For instance, Buckeyes say they bleed scarlet and gray, and the team up north says they bleed maize and blue. So, to see which team has more pride, we have the Blood Battle (which OSU won this year!). There are other competitions like that leading up to The Game.
There is a reason this rivalry is considered one of the best, if not the best, in college football. Go Bucks!!

Ohio State just has a larger margin of error... more talent, more ways to win. But Notre Dame is a well coached team that executes extremely well and takes advantage of mistakes (And causes a lot of mistakes via turnovers). So they are the perfect team to upset a team like Ohio State.

The Pre BCS, BCS, and 4 Team Playoff eras made every regular season and major bowl game important.
This new 12 Team Playoff era has totally nuked the regular season’s importance. I remember watching Ga Tech/UGA multiple overtime game in Week 12 and all the announcers kept saying was even if Georgia lose they can still get into the playoffs by winning the SEC title game the next week despite being a 3 loss team. Basically they were subliminally saying that the game we were watching is meaningless.
They have been slowly turning NCAA football into NCAA basketball. This is not a good thing. Well at least for people like me who held the regular season in such high regard. Sure you get an exciting couple of weeks of playoffs but at what cost? History, Tradition, pageantry, rivalries??? These regular season terms are pretty much null and void now.
