    Thanks for showing us how you hook that minnow. It definitely gives off that injured/dying motion

    I started hooking my minnows right by the head like you demonstrated and I have drastically improved my hook ups. I pulled a few dinner plate crappies out of sakakawea this past Sunday east of williston on a jigging spoon with a minnowhead.

    Used these on a really cold day at the lake ruclips.net/user/postUgkxDn2sw8y7H6oNOV0envADWPlTV9pvctAA the spool was really fluent in letting the line out and the whole mechanism was really responsive to any hit from the fish, it was also great that you can adjust it for big or small fish. The light it came with works great in the dark. The only thing that I had problems with is the depth droppers clasp is really weak and it wouldn't stay on the hook unless you threaded the hook through the springs

    *These work with rod and reel or tip ups **enjoyable.fishing** recommend it’s good for keeping snow out of the hole and to greatly slow hole freezing. They are not heavy so need to be held down by tip up or some snow/ice shavings if windy. Have not had them freeze down even when placed in wet ice shavings.*

    Hi Jason
    Where did you get those rod holders that you use?

      I have had them for years and can’t remember. I think HT made them.

    Jason, What size hook do you prefer for this method? Thanks

    • @JasonMitchellOutdoors
      @JasonMitchellOutdoors  4 года назад +2

      Depends on the size of the minnow, for walleyes with most minnows, I use a size 6 or 4. For perch and crappie, I will lean a little smaller at times.

    Hi Jason. Do you need to use swivel upstream with this setup?

    • @JasonMitchellOutdoors
      @JasonMitchellOutdoors  4 года назад

      Generally no, just a split shot and plain hook. Usually the minnow swimming counters any twist in the line and you don’t usually work up twist as you aren’t jigging.

  • @danleonard6829

    Using the rod holder on the wrong side. The way it's being used now a big fish can take the rod down the hole, if it's turned around then the rod just slides down and the rod holder stops the rod from going down the hole.

    • @JasonMitchellOutdoors
      @JasonMitchellOutdoors  2 года назад +1

      You are correct about sliding out and down the hole. I use them that way when I am sitting next to them so I can slide the rod towards the hole and fish without having any resistance the fish can feel to grab the rod and set the hook.

    Poor little dude. I'll keep using artificial baits even if it means less bites. 😂 Used to hook frogs, craws and minnows when I was younger. I seem to care more in my older years... Except when it comes to cleaning the fish for supper 🤣😉 (I still use minnows once in a while for perch) 🤷
