I teach mathematics and biology. I have the same experiences working with students as you, Christian and Luke. My friends and family who don't work at the school also don't understand that my job is exhausting, even though they know how much time and energy I spend preparing for classes, not to mention teaching students. Fortunately for me and, of course, my students, I enjoy my job. Nowadays, unlike at the beginning of my career, I know that I will not teach everyone and everything. To paraphrase your metaphor, Luke, not all of my students will climb Mout Everest in the subjects I teach. I have come to terms with this and I also try to make my students realize that the most important thing is that they do their best. I appreciate it. This gives me happiness and satisfaction.
It is a dream come true to see the top twist English teachers in the social media talking to each other. Thank you very much to both of you for dedicating your time and passion to teach us ESL!!!!!
Two of the best English teachers on the web in a video, fantastic! I Would like to see a conversacion with the first English teacher on RUclips, Misterduncan. I appreciate you all a lot
I'm following both of you for a long time (Luke's English Podcast and Canguru English) and now seeing both together is just amazing 🙌👏🙏 love this feat of teachers ... please keep doing it
I couldn't ask more. My favourite teacher interviewing another teacher I am following and who is trying to make a difference in the Esl industry. It was very interesting to go somehow behind the scenes of your work, as content creators, youtubers, podcasters. Luke, your metaphor about Mount Everest was really incisive! You are right, we - as learners - tend to set enormous goals and that most of the time leads to frustration and to give up. Breaking them down into chunks is the key, as you said, to keep going. THANK YOU for this video!
Thanks to the two of you for sharing this enjoyable, authentic, and deep conversation I love this kind of interview. Please keep on doing it! Take home messages: have fun, do the hard work yourself, and go back to basic things.
Just amazing! Two big together, thank you for this great interview, that's the reason I want to learn English... the final song was the icing on the cake!
Good job here! What a nice surprise to see my favorite teacher ever!!! Christian is LEGEND, Luke you are doing such an excellent work having these guests and talking about pivotal facts related to learning industry and practical issues as well. It was fulfilling to hear all the topics you both went through. I hope I can have you on a Chat Box coffee talks some day!
I have been a full time mother,I have a large span of time to listen to Luke’s podcast since summer holiday has began till the end of August, big thanks for you teacher Luke, this is the first time I hear you confess your stresses on what content you should make for us as the audience number is growing,I just wanna say I appreciate you for making every effort to provide contents with high quality in a very funny way,I always cannot help laughing, thank you very much Luke ❤❤❤
You guys are absolutely attractive teachers thanks for your service . my children are so happy to have you guys here to catch and learning alots of things becusee we are new in UK thanks once, gaian dear teachers 😊
You both guys are just great! It´s kind of a dream came true see you together teaching us good english. Thank you very much dear teachers. Regards from Ecuador, cheers!
I would say : brilliant, realistic and clever approach of learning foreign language ! With 2 kind and funny guys. It was a blast being here with you Bonjour / Bonsoir, the analogy with the Everest as well, Mr Obama’ s imitation...It was funny and in the meantime so true!! Thanks a bunch. Cori from south of France
Teacher Luke ,and Christen, very interesting to listen too ,I know I need to improve my English language, always love watching videos about English language ,thank you so much.
This was awesome! what I found fascinating about this episode is that I learned new stuff such as dunning kruger curve effect & Paul Nation research about leaning vocabulary. Actually the whole episode was fantastic & I like it when you have some guests like this , Luke, Thank you
Last april I spent a week in Paris the city that I really love I also speak french I’m thinking how outstanding it could have been of I had a oportunity to meet you Sorry about my english mistakes You are my teacher I heard and see you everyday You the best ✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👍🏻
Hi Luke, this is third video I saw which all of those are very interesting and rather useful for me, I think. I'm Jianqiang An, you can call me An which is simple if the comments would be seen by you. Q is difficult to pronounce between Chinse and English, it's different pronunciation. You know I've listened 200 serials episode from last year. Now every day I listen it as fast as I can so that I can catch up with your new podcast. I hope it's not late. I like your pronunciation and the podcast content you did. This time I would like to write something to thank you. And specially this conversation, because it's a lot of feeling as well as you mentioned. For example, setting the goals of learning English. Someone can climb up the mountain, other can't. We have to learn step by step and look at the feet. Another point, you have to create the need and create the motivation. Finally, go back sometimes and not always learn something new. The video is fantastic and I also feel the same when you speak second language. Look at the video is better than listening, I don't know why. Oh, forget to one unfortunately thing, I can't open your website because it is not allowed using company laptop. But it is good thing I can use RUclips through company VPN. That's all, sorry about saying too much and lack of logistic.
Amazing interview! I love English and have been learning it for quite a long time!!! I love it so much, even though my mum used to say I had no flair for languages!!! Anyway, I did not bother about her opinion and carried on learning ! I knew I had to create a need to use English that is how I became an English Teacher in Brazil!!
I can't believe your daughter's 3 already. it seems like only a few months ago I was listening to the podcast episode about her birth. Thoroughly enjoyable conversation!
Thank you a lot for this interview. It was really interesting for me. I enjoyed a conversation between two teachers about a language and other sort of things. I like a format like podcasts. Despite that could you make more video interviews, because in this way I have opportunity to see emotions and feel atmosphere of a conversation. And of course youtube videos have a transcription! Anyway thank tour for job. This episode was amazing! (From Russia with love)
It is really good show. I love the content, really interesting. And also the voices of both guys ! Especially when Luke imitates Obama way of speaking, you are good talent too Luke 🙂.
Luke, thanks for the podcast. I have just found your podcasts recently and I enjoyed it. This is a brilliant interview, educational, entertaining and genuine. I like both teachers. It's interesting to know how Chris changed from a graphic designer to an English teacher. Luke's french experience is also interesting. I've learnt a bit of french by myself and I kind of understand Luke's french learning experience. I also like your other series talking about different cultures and history. I look forward to watch your podcasts everyday.
That is great idea to see two teachers from different countries... both of you are amazing. Thanks to all of you to help me to improve my English. Luisa
It took me 3 days to watch this podcast and I really was enjoying listening to it. But I didn't catch one thing. When Christian said he'd never heard about past perfect, does it mean he'd never used it before? Or it means he'd never paid attention to it before? Thanks a lot in advance!
He'd definitely used it before, but he wasn't aware of the name "past perfect" and what that meant. The point is that native speakers don't learn grammar in the way that ESL/EFL students learn it.
Where can we read further about the process of acquiring a new language inevitably involving some translating? I've looked it up but just found some small articles or listicles =(
I remember when I was a first year student of English lit. the professor told us that we could express ourselves almost efficiently if we knew 300 English words.. and recommended using English- English dictionaries... it was so helpful. You reminded me of all these things.. thanx for this interesting interview
