Indeed, and that news is not worthy of any pump, there's gazillions of competition in this in China.
Only gamble aspect to this is the quickness of it all. But knowing your stuff isn’t the same as leaving it to chance. Yeah there was great risk but give the man credit for all the research and due diligence he does to win rather consistently.

I think Tesla's 2024 $10B AI investment includes the the 2+M vehicle's FSD Hardware 4 cameras & computers, so that's a few billion depending on the COGS for Hardware 4.
Does anyone know what he’s talking about when he said avoids the tax losses if it were to go down?
He means losing money by having to pay taxes lol. Since he sold at a loss he offset taxes on some of his gains through the year, then waited the appropriate amount of time and got back in for about the same he sold at. So saved a pretty good bit of money. It’s great for a pro but risky for most regular people that primarily wish to hold for long term

That camera data will be useless for copying FSD unless it's high resolution video streams. I think that is VERY unlikely and probably not even feasible. I'm thinking it will just be 360 degree snapshots every few seconds or so similar to Google maps streetview.

He later commented on the 10B again. It's cumulative up to the end of this year. It includes training compute and in-car inference compute. It includes some more things. It's cumulative!! It's total!! It's investment over time without which this year's FSD progress would have not been achieved.

Kevin, re the 10B Tesla are going to invest in AI in 2024, a big part of that (inference) is already included in the COGS, and has been for many quarters, so it is not 10B on top of current investments, it is 10B including the AI inference already in the vehicles, so you can’t just assume a 10B investment from a $0 base!
How much is the current spend on Vehicle AI, not sure, but if you assume it’s, let’s say $1.500 per vehicle, that would have been 2.7B in 2023 already.(just as an example, I have no idea of the actual cost per vehicle)

Kevin, Musk said if you don't believe in robotaxi you should not invest in this company. You say you believe in it long term but this is not what Musk meant. He actually meant if you don't believe it's imminent - sell the shares to someone who does believe. Because robotaxi is coming much sooner then the new models. Of course robotaxi is coming sooner than the new models. Next models are not ready. Robotaxi based on existing models is almost ready. It's coming when they do initial launch of the service at a small scale.
