This clip literally saved my life. In 2013 I had an anaphylactic allergic reaction to amoxicillin. My hands were burning and I put them in a snowbank to cool them off. Then I looked in the mirror of my SUV and realized my tongue was swelling - "numb tongue" - and click, I realized I was having an allergic reaction, just like Kirk. I specifically had that thought. I raced across town running every streetlight with my horn blaring. Pulled into the hospital where my wife is a nurse, having called her to warn I was coming in. I basically peeled into there on two wheels. They got me on a gurney and stuffed me full of meds. As I got into the ER, I could hardly swallow. A few more minutes, and I would have been done for. So, yes, Star Trek literally saved my life.
I have a similar reaction except for my throat closing up to penicillin. Oh and the skin on my hands peels off too. Was rather a shock to my mother when I showed her a piece of what fell off while mumbling nonsense due to my tongue going numb 😂
I always think of an old episode of MASH, or at least I think it was, where one of the characters was having an allergic reaction and their throat was closing. With few resources and options, the guy had a straw jammed down his throat so that his airway couldnt fully close, giving him just barely enough oxygen to survive. Probably wouldnt work too well, but I always think of it.
Fantastic scene, and it showcased each character in a good way and with a perfect mix of humor and seriousness. I love the way Pike looks away after Kirk says he read Pike’s dissertation as if he couldn’t believe his ears😁 And can I just say that Zoe Saldana is incendiary level hot as well as exuding confidence in her job, and a more than worthy heir to Nichelle Nichols who was exactly the same way as Uhura.
*AAH STOP IT!!! NUMB TONGUE!? AAH DAMMIT!!!!! 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 KIRK IS SO HILARIOUS WHENEVER HE GETS JABBED BY BONES IN THIS CLASSIC MOVIE IT’S THE BEST MOVIE EVER* 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
One thing i never get sick of is supposed smart people being smart. Spock might not like kirk but understands that his concern is from a place of intelligence, and he acknowledges that Uhura is very skilled and knowledgeable. So, her endorsement is nothing to sneeze at either.
The one glaring chunk of THIS AIN'T RIGHT that hit me hardest in the movie was how a ship of that size got into orbit around Vulcan, set up those drilling platforms/cables. AND NOBODY NOTICED anything being amiss. Not to mention turning the bulk of the Vulcan System into a big fargin scrapyard.
Trek has always been unnaturally sparse in the ships available but kelvin-trek outright treats ships like damned artefacts with no protection at all around unimportant things like the home planets of founding members of the federation or patrolling such. Tho somehow the black ops agencies seemed to have access to monstrous budgets that outclass the primary fleet capabilities in every aspect (bigger, faster, stronger, more tech, better armour and superior e-war). Nu-trek has been a comedic wedge that tore trek as a while apart through simple lack of respect of the scale scope and mission parameters of the post federation alpha quadrant. TOS did the gods and monster thing, TNG the preaching to developing nations while seeking new life in its many forms, DS9 took on the logistics of having a sense of morality while stuck relatively unsupported in a border town turned galactic trade hub (the consequences linger), voyager time looped itself out of numerous prime directive (temporal or otherwise) consequences and the difficulties of being fully cut off while integrating a mixed crew. Nu trek just decided to go for snide humour, character retcons and the convenience of trek gear without the viewpoints and moral developments that came alongside it originally.
@@IRMentat I can enjoy each movie, even each series, as effectively stand alone projections. The continuity only works as long as any and all reference to cannon or lore is viewed strictly through the lens of the multiverse. It's like they took a page from Dr Who. Where anything is possible and everything is likely on the assumption of it being in some other universe in some other timeline.
Anyone around vulcan has their transmissions nullified by the romulans... and would be killed if they're closed enough for a futuristic ship to sense they're in the vecinity..
@draconusspiritus1037, the _Narada_ had Borg technology, which meant that it wouldn't be detected by the sensors used by Vulcan Space Central; that's how the attack came off.
@@Neville60001 I don't recall the Borg ever being known for having or using Stealth technology of any kind. Romulan and Klingon stealth cloaks had to be deactivated in order for the ship to be able to do much of anything else.
It slightly bothers me that Nurse Chapel is only mentioned and not even shown especially since her role in Star Trek Strange New Worlds captivated me, nice little Easter Egg for those with good ears I suppose but she could've been a nice character to include in the main cast. Hate that she was written off the movies for no reason other than an in-universe reason of apparently having a relationship with Kirk that didn't go well and that Kirk doesn't even remember....

The lightning storm near vulcan is a plot hole. 2 lightning storms, one when Nero came out, one when Spock did. Both occurred at the edge of Klingon space, the one where Spock came out is when Nero destroyed those Klingon ships. There’s no reason for a third lightning storm.
I don’t think there were 3. I think that the first storm heralded the arrival of Nero and the Romulans 20 years ago at the time of the U.S.S. Kelvin attack, and the second one corresponded to Spock’s present day arrival. The destruction of the Klingon warbirds was linked with the other events by the presence of the massive Romulan ship (which had been waiting in hiding for Spock’s arrival since the Kelvin incident), not a lightning storm in space.
So nurse chapel was on board the enterprise's first voyage but after all the crap it went through she transfered away? Thats sounds about right. I hope she returns for the 4th movie and fall in love with spock.
Probably won't happen as Uhura is pretty well established as Spock's love interest in this timeline, so unless they break them up AGAIN, for good, I don't see Nurse Chapel and Spock happening. Apparently, they wanted Spock and Uhura in the original series, but given how it would have been both illegal and taboo to have an interracial couple on TV, it never came into fruition.
@jboxy6021 Sure, it was progressive, but they had trouble even getting the non-romantic Kirk and Uhura kiss to be greenlit- let alone a full blown romantic relationship between a white man and a black woman.
If you watch the movie you would understand this scene. but i can break it down for you a little. so basically up to this point the main character james kirk (the guy in the black top) has joined starfleet academy which is basically a galaxy spanning fleet of starships set out to explore new worlds and alien civilizations. kirk has been in the academy for a couple of years at this point and was recently court martialed for cheating on the kobayashi maru which is an impossible to beat test and therefore was not permitted to join the other cadets being assigned to their starships. However, with the help of his friend Dr "bones" mccoy, kirk was able to get aboard the shuttle that takes the cadets to spacedock, which is starfleets main space station in earth's orbit. kirk and bones were on the shuttle to go to the USS enterprise, (the ship in this video) The enterprise along with many other starfleet vessels are about to leave to intercept a distress call from the planet vulcan which is one of the planets with starfleet. kirk, after hearing the distress call was explained as a "lightning storm in space" realizes that very same description was used many years ago when his dad (george kirk) was attacked on his ship and got completely destroyed. kirk now attempts to convince the captain (christopher pike) that vulcan is not experiencing a natural disaster but is infact being attacked by romulans, the same alien race responsible for ending george kirk's life. I wont spoil anything after this, but you should understand roughly what is happening now.
Because he was obviously way more of a star trek fan than a star wars fan. His plan was to do something very similar to the OG trilogy but with slight changes (which wouldntve been bad but nothing special) then rian johnson decided to actually make it something unique, some stuff for the better, some for for the worse. And then disney basically cancelled anything him or rian had setup in their movies and just made the most ai generated movie anyones ever seen.
