In all seriousness I would choose IKE and ALEX as the winners out of your finalists. I subscribed to Drew's channel, but I feel like these two did an amazing job showing why they should win. Seth, I know this had to be a very hard decision to even narrow it down to these 5. Great job and keep up the good work! Any decision you make about the contest will be the right one, and we will all keep watching your videos.

Because alex is so pumped to ride whenever he has time, and because he makes the most of his 22 year old cannondale. I really believe alex should receive this bike to gain more confidence (which he already has so much of) and to also gain much more riding skill. It seems as though the only thing holding back alex from being a better rider are these two things: time and gear. Its very hard to get more time but this upgrade could really change and improve alex to a better rider. GOOD LUCK ALEX. You deserve this bike.

Seth, This is Dan's High School Mountain Bike Coach. Dan is a great asset to our team. He called me the other day and told me that if he wins your bike he will donate his Fezzari Lone Peak XC bike to a kid on the team who can't afford his own bike. I told Dan that I do have a family in need and that this donation would ensure that this kid is able to stay on the High School Mountain Bike Team and keep cycling. This would be a huge help to this family. I just wanted to pass that information along to you.

Alex should win this! He is riding a bike from 1995 yet he still rides with style and with the way he chooses lines, whips, tail taps you can just tell he has a flow for riding and that would benifit the most from this contest.
Drew's edit is dope and his heart is in the right place but you wouldnt know who the bike is even going to and what condition the "Kids" bike is currently in, Drew just said the bike isnt up to their standards..... I'm willing to bet its way nicer than a head shock cannodale grocery grabber. All the while Alex put himself out there getting iphone footy and just ripping that 95 like its the best bike in the world.

Alex all the way!!!! He is a great kid who knows how to make the best of what he's got. I remember I had been using my dad's old bike for a few years, so I know how he feels, but I recently got a new upgrade and it has made all the difference. His old cannondale is definitely holding him back, even though that doesn't stop him from having fun. I hope he can win this bike so we can continue to see him grow and improve his riding. Ride or die YEET YEET!!

Ike should get this bike! He'll be an inspiration to other kids too!

  • @weschilton
    @weschilton 7 лет назад +27

So I think that Ike and Alex and Dan are my favorites. Reason being... these are young kids with a passion to ride who clearly don't have the means to move up to higher end gear and who's bikes are holding them back. They make the most of what they've got and make no excuses. They best represent the spirit of this contest and should win.
Drew and his buddies with their super slick production values, drone footage and fancier bikes can easily pool together the funds to help out their friend.... whom we know absolutely nothing about. It's a nice sentiment, but not seeing who this kid is, what he rides, how serious he is about riding leaves me feeling strange about the video.
I feel a lot better about the more deserving, less fortunate guys who have put in the time to develop some serious skills on the clunkers they have.

I'm sure he's the trailside mechanic we all wish for when we get mechanicals on our rides.

To all the comments saying "Drew's gotta win!" The other people in this competition are much worse off. The mystery child can easily get an amazing, pre owned bike from the other riders in his group if anybody wants to upgrade. People like Ike and Alex don't have that possibility. We know that Alex is stuck on a horrible bike without other ones easily accessible.
Another thing is, we never saw mystery child. He could have no heart for riding. We know for sure that Alex and Ike have passion in riding.
Just so everybody knows, Drew's video was the best. Him and his friends have spent a LOT of money on drones and camera equipment, and it has payed off. I just don't believe that he would be the best choice for this competition.

Your advice on cams, etc is just what I need. PS Really like the viewer vids, especially the ones showing hard work, tenacity, heart and generosity to others. And your subtle humor is good as well. Keep it going!

Alex Z should definitely win the bike. Alex, others and I, are in our own biking group and we shred it hard. The only thing is, everyone in our group has a newer bike except Alex, and I think it's holding him back from his full potential. I understand if he doesn't win the contest because there are many videos worthy of winning. I hope you will do another contest in the future.

drew giving the bike to another kid is nice, BUT I reckon Ike is the most deserving! he's helping people get into cycling, a bike from Seth would get him so stoked that he'd probably inspire 2000 more people to build and ride bikes.
if ike doesn't win the bike he should at least be donated some tools or something!

  • @AllSparkII

I think that Ike should win the small bike for sure! Many thinks speak for him. The ones you mentioned are cool for sure, but you did not mention some other points.
I think the most important of those would be the fact that he volunteers. Its a heck load of work to do (as I got 2 voluntary places of work myself) and the smiles you get from peolpe you helped are great, but sometimes just not enough to cover the sweat time and passion you put in your work.
It should be a great reward for him! In a sense to keep him going, even if he has a bad day.
Additionally, there is the fact, that he does not use his bike as hard, as some of the
other competitors. Don´t get me wrong, its good (and essential) to use the bike. I f.e. do not use my MTB that often, even though it is my greatest treasure. But whenever I do so, it puts a great smile on my face. And that is the thing I want for him as the winner. Something that keeps him going will put a simle on his face for a long time. And the lighter its used and better its maintain, the longer it will do so!

Seth, dude those are some great videos I know the contest is far over but watching your face while trying to decide is great. Diamondback is really great for offering up another bike. Your supper lucky man. I raced ABA BMX for 7 years during the late 80s and early 90s and NO ONE was giving away free bike for just shooting a video. I won the 92 11X SoCal State cup @ Orange Y and I was entered in a raffle to win a free ELF frame. Lucky for me the track owner, Ray Rome & Doug Cory (team manager of ELF & Aussie), pulled some names out of a hat. They quickly saw that the first few names didn't really need the frame. They talked for a second and came up with my name! I spent hours on the track, not just racing but helping. I watered berms, raked lips and ran the bike pit even though my moto was up next. A free bike stays with the right person for years to come. Diamondback could've given away 50 bikes but none would have the story that your channel has created. Thanks Seth and Diamondback for being so cool.

Wow, I would not wanna be you Seth! That is a tough decision. Obviously I wanted my son Jacob to win the bike 😉, however these guys are all deserving contenders and what your doing is a really cool thing. Kudos to Diamond Back for helping you out. A DBR Vertex was my first love 30yrs ago which I kept and still used until it was stolen a few years ago. I actually shed a tear as it held so many memories and I'd always hoped I would pass it on to my son, who as it happens is a massive fan of yours. Anyway, love the vids and hope you all stay safe. 👍

Ike definitely gets my vote! Full disclosure, I'm his dad, so I suppose I'm a bit biased. However I know, no matter what, he'll continue to inspire more people to ride and to give old bikes a new life. Heck he inspired this old roadie to ride, and now I race with him. It started partly because of the constant nagging for me to put my road bike away for bit and join him on the trails, and partly because he spent so much time at the ReCyclery, riding and volunteering for the team was my best bet at still seeing him. ;-) But he converted me, now more often than not, I'd rather shred than hammer pavement. :-)

    "Never go full enduro" lmao!
Awesome compilation, I really liked seeing how many people put in the time to make these, there are some genuinely great videos that follow suit in the style of your channel, the top 5 are awesome!
I know at some point you had said it was a PITA to deal with the negativity from some of the prospective applicants in the comments, but it seems to have paid off as so many people made so many positive things.

Ike (Ike isn't relying on other people to get the bike for him), or Alex (he's been riding that for years, and he should get the chance to step up) I think. I also think those two would look after it well..
I WAS going to say Chris, but I feel like Ike or Alex would appreciate and love that biek for ever. Even though Chris will also, It's harsh to say, but I feel the quality would be 'wasted' on people brand new to the sport. Give him a wallgoose, and I'm sure newbies would be happy.

@Seths Bike Hacks ... VOTING FOR DAN, WITH LENGTHY EXPLANATION WHY:
•••Every one of the contestants are so kind and thoughtful in their plans to help others with a bike. They are all amazing people! Dan is no exception as he comments in his follow-up video, Shred the XC, as well as his coaches response to you, that, should he win your historical bike, he will be giving his existing bike to a junior rider on his team, for whom the bike would be a good fit, appropriate for his skill level. This rider will not be able to continue riding without a new bike, which he cannot afford.
•••The bike seems to have served Dan well for the past while, but his current and future skill level and future trajectory are definitely curtailed with this existing bike.
•••When it comes to sheer riding chops and someone who will give your bike a second RUclips life, Dan is an obvious choice.
•••With the exception of awesome Drew, who already had a nice, substantial RUclips channel following (rightly so) with a nice bit of online traction and a nice amount of subscribers coming into this contest, Dan's online progress just since you started this contest (as well as his clear desire to keep making awesome videos and growing his channel even more) is phenomenal and more than double the next contender after him.
•••As of the writing of this comment, Dan is 13 views away from having 20,000 views on his original contest video (vs. 9,129 on the next highest viewership behind Dan) and his 2nd follow-up video that was just published a week ago already has 3,176 views. This is a perfect indication his channel will continue to grow as he amasses more viewers and subscribers and your bike will continue a second life on his channel, maybe he'll call it: "Drew's Bike, The Sequel." Just kidding, but it WILL definitely continue to live online with this kid, Dan.
•••Dan's committed followers: In the past several days since you announced the finalists, Dan has amassed 376 organic subscribers, compared to 179 subscribers on the next competitor's channel after Dan. The other two are nominal. This would indicate to me that Dan intends to continue creating awesome content indefinitely and providing continued coverage of your bike and promoting your channel.
•••Dan clearly has the riding chops and the future in the sport that will give your Diamondback a long and eventful life going forward.
•••This is why DAN has my vote.
Thanks for listening (if you got this far)  Have a nice weekend!

Ike's video was so amazing. He clearly is very dedicated, but I wonder if he would be able to take care of such a nice bike, parts aren't cheap. Dan had a good video, reminded me of myself. That bike is very much holding him back, and he seems invested in riding. I think he could even race one day maybe. Also, I like Drew's idea, and his edits are really good, so you could potentially get a lot of collaboration going between your channels, since he could film the dude riding with his new bike (your old one). So yeah, Ike, Dan and Drew!

Tied between Ike and Drew - My heart goes out to Ike bc of the non-profit and his awesome work-ethic. Reaping the rewards for him would probably stay with him his whole life. Drew's is by the best and most creative, but it lacks the background story about the friend who needs a bike. With all of the equipment he has to make such an awesome video and the support group he is a part of, surely they can all pitch in and help his buddy actually purchase an epic bike!? yeah?

I'm definitely voting for Ike. He's going to take good care of it, he'll be proud as hell but most of all he just deserves it! Helping out other people, building himself a bike using what is available, taking good care of what he has now. I can go on and on. We have a Dutch word "gunnen" which has no translation into English but the closest translation is "to grant" but from the heart. Wishing for Ike to win the bike!
