great comparison, but that B2 was out of tune during Nocturne.

This is a very helpful video, especially because of the good quality sound recording - not all demo videos have that. Excellent.

Do you guys think B1 is a perfect choice for an apartment due to the fact that it is smaller? I'm thinking about upgrading either to an acoustic or to a better digital or hybrid piano. Do you guys think B1 might sound too loud?

I just responded on another comment you had... However, another option you may want to consider is getting the silent system added to the piano. If you would like to learn more about Yamaha's silent hybrid piano you can learn more here! www.popplersmusic.com/pianos/hybrid-pianos/yamaha-silent/

Biggest jump in quality seems to be B1 to B2. Completely different tone. Whereas B3 sounds similar to B2 with a little more bass.

Well said. I would agree there is a big quality difference between the B1 and B2. The B2 vs. B3 has to do with the depth of bass, long-term durability because of the back posts, and the scale design. Thank you for watching! - Josh

To be honest the nocturne sounded weirdly on all three of them... Is this the Yamaha sound, or is it common to all upright pianos?

All three pianos in this video need tuning, especially the B2 and B3. The microphone may also not be the best, I've heard a B3 in real life and I like the sound much more than in this video.

@@jonasdehairs9701 Thanks for the reply. FWIW I later visited some piano technician's shop and heard these and other pianos live. Probably it's a pure personal preference, but even there I loved old German upright pianos' sound much more than Yamahas (and I ended up buying one, a 40-year old "Krauss"). But I agree that the recording in the video sounds pretty weird, probably because of the tuning as you point out.

I'm only playing classical music and want a clear sound. Gotta decide between the yamaha b1 and the kawai k15 what would you say?
Edit: I don't like honky bar jazz sounding piano tone.

    • @PopplersMusic

      Thanks for watching our videos!
I have not played the Kawai K15 in a long time.
What I do know is that the B1 is Yamaha's most entry-level acoustic upright piano. It's meant to be a nice starting acoustic upright piano at the most economic price point.
In my experience, beginner to intermediate-level players are OK with the B1. Anyone who is upper intermediate to advanced appreciates and needs a higher quality upright piano such as the B3, P22, or U1.
I've had customers who wanted to save money buy going with the B1 who were experienced piano players and they ended up trading up to a higher quality model in the series.
Lastly, technicians fairly unanimously agree that Yamaha pianos are the easiest to work on and the most reliable pianos.

Um, very conspicuously missing, was any commentary about how the b1 is a Continental style Piano.

    • @PopplersMusic

      Thank you for watching!
I have studied piano most of my life, I studied piano performance in college, and I have been working in the music industry for the past 7 years and I have never heard the term "Continental Style Piano." There are many terms for pianos, designs, sizes, etc... What is your definition of a Continental Style Piano? I looked up a few definitions on google and with CHATGPT but I'm still curious what you mean.
Your comment in the thread may help others looking to learn about Yamaha's B-Series! Thank you! - Josh

@@PopplersMusic I don't have that much piano experience, however I have heard of the term 'Continental' style piano... in particular from Hugh Sung who sometimes does demostrations of Yamaha pianos. He described the B1 with this term and by that he means that it has no front 'legs'.
My issue with this video however is not this, but the fact that you purposely avoided playing any Bass notes on the B1. I was curious how it would sound as this model is shorter, but I guess it must not be so good, otherwise you would have played those notes on the B1, like you did on the B3. Also, the B1 has a 'laminated' sound board, so it is not a full spruce board, which has an impact on the tone but was also not mentioned.
