When we were young we might like wantanmee with ketchup but now as adults I find it really weird 😅even my daughter doesn't like it ..black wantanmee best lol 😂
I regularly eat at Eng's for like the last 5 or so years. You really need the Chilli to make this work! The lard is great if you'd like abit of crunch like myself. The only thing is it's abit deep in, because I usually park in Holy Family then I walk over for my Wanton Mee fix. But I have to agree, the noodles have always remained super consistent. Also btw, if you head back out to the junction near i12 from Eng's Joo Chiat, go to Secret Square Cafe along the main road same row as Alibabar where there's another Kok Kee Wanton Mee outlet.
I had been eating wanton noodles wherever I go around Malaysia, such as Klang, Telok Panglima Garang, Penang, Bidor, Bagan Datoh, Kuantan, Pekan, Yong Peng, Seremban and Melaka. I think I need to go Singapore to taste these wanton noodles. Looks tasty.
One of the most memorable wanton mee places I ate was in JB City Square (Ho Seng Kee) as their handmade noodles were springy and savoury. Another place that I look forward to try one day is One Mouth Noodle where the noodles are also freshly made daily. The fresh taste and chewier texture of fresh noodles is much more delightful.
Sorry to say this but after Ho Seng Kee retired many years ago, the noodle and taste isn’t the same anymore. I grew up eating HSK wanton noodle when they were at their original store are Jalan Meldrum. I know them personally as my office is just next to their stall. The son have good ideas on marketing but totally lost in transition on maintaining good tasty noodle. When they move to Taman Sri Tebrau shop house, the father was still cooking. Of course I can’t blame that age catch up and people will wish to retire. Zermatt, go without any expectation for Ho Seng Kee noodles. I give a little secret. Go ta bao their noodle (don’t get those frozen ones) and leave it to cool down. Bring back home and keep it in the fridge for 1 day. You can steam it up or microwave to heat up. It actually taste better. 😂😂😂
Psb used to be beside chef Kang, got to try it afew times when I was studying there. Their charsiew is juicy, melt in mouth kind. Will have charred ends too. Really the best. To add on, their shrimp wanton is thicccc, pack with plump and fresh shrimp, each crunch is mouthful. Their noodles are average/above average, is alittle qq, paired with salty black sauce. Worth it 👍🏻 very consistent quality during my 1 year there
Engs wanton Noodle is one of the best I’ve eaten with rly good spicy chilli!! I’ve eaten at Chef Kang’s a few times, but it’s always long queue or be prepared to queue at least 10-30 mins. Personally I like the wanton noodle at Toa Payoh Hub Food Alley, it’s also really outstanding and a bit more convenient by public transport.
@@ZermattNeo It’s called Hiang Ji Roasted Meat & Noodle House, more on the savoury side but the noodles are very springy and the chilli is good & wantons quite QQ also
Ji Ji and Chef Kang defintely best👍 . Ji Ji should also try their lo kai yiak( braised chicken wing)... Would a recommend Laifaba, located or hiddened in the industrial area at Bukit Batok Crescent...very good bbq char siew , very KL style, normally sold out by late lunch...a hidden gem.

Great video Zermatt and Annette, this AOD video came at the right time! I was feeling to get some wonton noodle, I just wish I could've join you guys. The dishes looked amazing and I liked both of you guys description of the plates. Take care and I look forward to seeing the next video.
Eng's Wantan Noodle at Joo Chiat unless you belong to those must eat at AC place.. than no choice looking at the dish it the last of the 4 mentioned. Chef Kang's is the best choice , really u must try.
I resonate with your description about Kok Kee. It's that OG nostalgia taste. Am struggling to find it nowadays. Currently my go-to is Koungs at Geylang but the weekend queue is not worth it at times.
Chicken feet wantanmee is quite a common combination in malaysia actually (at least i speak for KL/klang valley la) .. chicken feet mushroom wantanmee is popular with the more mature crowd 😅
Nice episode featuring WTM! But I do find it cringey whenever Zermatt says the hawker is so nice, open to feedback, gives complimentary food etc They are only so nice cos they are in front of a camera! Normal customers where got such good treatment & privileges? Haha. Most hawker face damm black when you try to order from them, esp the Kok Kee wtm
Kok kee is too sweet it’s like they drench the whole plate with sugar syrup. Pls try ah huat wanton mee at dunman food centre. The chili and pork lard is everything
Yes, i go there too, guzao type. best for me but the wait.....also sometimes you could never guess if you could get it lol. still prefer without chilli and the taste will be very different and original
Grew up with Kok Kee and to me that defines wanton mee. I only go to their Foch Road stall. Eng's is one of my to go place if I'm in the East. Love the chilli there! Ji Ji taste is way too complicated for a wanton mee. The lady at the counter is not the most polite person. Don't need to spend money for attitude from her! Gotta to go try Chef Kang soon! I'm sure it's going to be good.
@ZermattNeo can you do some videos of the before challenges prep work you do + take some blood test, and also after the massive challenges stuff you do and the bloodtest result please? Would be an interesting series for sure!
Kok Kee is nice but their portions are pathetic since their Lavender days. Went to their TPY outlet and saw the staff cooking 2 portions of noodles but dividing it into 3 plates. He then transferred a few strands of noodles from one plate to the other to “balance” the amount, like it matters.
You guys must try the One Mouth Noodles 一口面 at Yishun Park Hawker Centre!!! Noodles are freshly made from scratch, you can see the stall owner did it the traditional way. The broth is full of sole fish flavour to be honest is very very HK taste alike. Definitely one of the best in Singapore!
i thought got telok blangah drive Hong Ji ,,,, old school chewy with the awesome chili..., crispy self help free flow pork lard... chicken feet always sold out!

In Malaysia, mostly the charsiews are as you mentioned, smoky, savoury, sweet, a well-balanced fat and lean meat charred to perfection. Unlike Singapore's style which are usually lean, dry, cardboard like charsiew skinny meat that's not even charred. Mostly Singapore's charsiew are boiled coloured meat.
