They’ve never had every model in stock especially daytonas and submariners 😂
In 2016 I purchased my first Rolex, a steel GMT. The AD had every model in stock except the ceramic Daytona. They even had a white dial Daytona with the steel bezel in the case. Batman on Oyster, Hulk, Seadweller 4000. Literally everything except the ceramic Daytona. If only I knew, I would have bought everything.
Yeah they dont want names on the cards when themselves are pumping hundreds of their watches to grey market dealers. :)
The Exp2 is a piece that has been under appreciated for many years. It is a great model and I hope that Rolex stay true to the DNA design and maintain the robust steel bezel as its tool watch status deserves when the highly anticipated 50th anniversary arrives.
The Polar dial with the orange GMT hand looks stunning on a orange band as an alternative look.
Furthermore, one addition I would like to see on the 50th is the glide lock micro adjustment, I think I am correct in saying that it is only on the Sub and SD43 currently. I’ve always found it to be the reason to grab the Sub over the Exp2 when your wrist expands during the summer mths.
There are people who think the new one will have a fixed ceramic dial.
@@essexwatchenthusiast9888 It was upgraded with this 40th Anniversary Baselworld 2011 release 6-Digit reference 216570 42mm from the previous 5-Digit 16570 39/40mm which had no tool-free micro-adjustment. It was also upgraded with a Parachrom Blue Balance Spring and Paraflex shock absorption. Submariner Glidelock clasps are much longer and thicker than the Easylink clasps on the GMT-Master II/ Explorer II and other sports Rolex.
The new Oysterflex Sky-Dwellet from September 2020 and the first 42mm white Gold Yachtmaster on Oysterflex was the first to have Glidelock clasps as previously you had to order different length Oysterflex bracelets.
Glidelock clasps take up the whole underside of your wrist with no articulated links; whereas there is articulation from the links still present with just Easylink, so I hope it keeps this if it's updated for the 50th Anniversary.
Thank you so much for your knowledgeable and in-depth response. For a person with a wrist size on the small side I just find the easy link to be too much of an increase in bracelet size at times. I particularly like a tight fitting watch so the finer adjustment I can have is welcomed.
@Danish Everblue, it does seem to be the majority wish for a ceramic bezel, I’ve seen the mock ups which do look stunning but for it to remain true to its heritage and durability should remain steel imo.
Wish a had such a collection as you have. Picking up my first Rolex Datejust 16030 in 4/5 months :)

I don’t understand why the AD, knowing you as a customer, still removes the stickers and treats you like you’re taking it to e-bay the second you walk out of the store. Rolex deserves all the hate...
It's Rolex policy. The AD isn't going to risk losing their AD status over stickers on the watch.

@@Brian-ee1gx AD policy is not Rolex policy. They (ADs) make it up as they go along. I’ve been buying Rolex watches for 13 years😉.
@@capt3956 I've also been buying Rolex, and it's a recent policy change mandated by Rolex corporate, not the individual AD's.
Back in 1998 I bought my 2nd Gen Gold Yachtmaster blue dial and had a decent discount for a cash purchase. Obtaining a Rolex of your dreams was a reality back then, there’d be a good selection in most AD’s, and end up walking out with one that very day!
Fast forward 20+ years and your now in a lottery draw and a long waiting list to obtain your dream Rolex. How times have changed 🥺

I've never liked the Explorer 2, I've always seen it as a ruined GMT Master. After seeing this video I do appreciate it a bit more. I still want the Explorer 1 only though. Keep us up to date on your travels, very exciting!
Gary, i really see your point. I had a gmt 2 and didn't like the polar 42 because of your explanation really. But i wanted a sporty legible watch for skiing. So i thought I'll get this (pre owned for beneath retail) and if I don't like it I'll sell it on. Omg, it's no gmt master but out and out sports watch. Comfortable. Legible. Two time zones. It's slowly become the only watch i wear. Don't look at it like a gmt master 2. It's its own breed. It's truly fantastic and the looks in the metal wipe the floor with a lot of the Rolex models out there.
My view is that the GMT is a ruined Explorer 2 with the colored ceramic bezel. 😃 To each their own...

As it's the 50th (Golden Anniversary) 1971-2021 anniversary of the Ref: 1655 original model , I thought that at Watches and Wonders digital event in Geneva between 7-13 April 2021, Rolex would introduce a yellow Gold model, like the 116718 LN GMT-Master II in for 1955-2005 50th, which came in two versions:
With a Rolex Corporate Green (used in watches with important anniversaries by Rolex) dial and one with a black dial, but green GMT-Master II dial text; 24 Hr hand and datewheel figures.
Any Anniversary model could feature green in some way, maybe a green dial, it's unlikely to be a green 24 Hr hand as the 2011 216570 40th Anniversary Explorer II model features an orange 24 Hr hand in both Polar and black dial versions, like in the original 1655 reference, but only the black dial version features the 'Phantom' floating hour/ minute/ 24 Hr hands of the 1655 original.
You could get the black dial now, they will both increase in secondary market value if discontinued.
White Gold would be better as it would be everyday wearable looking like the stainless steel actual watch.
It's a recreational caving (or professional academic Speleology) watch, where enthusiasts crawl through narrow underground limestone passages and you'd smash a ceramic bezel, which they could change to Titanium or like Omega, Tungsten Carbide.
They will probably give it a movement upgrade:
Comparable 40mm GMT - Master II ceramic watches, of which the 116718LN was the first in 2005 had the 3186 movement and your new 216570 a modified 3187 version to accommodate the date wheel of your larger 42mm watch, so the new movement should be 3285 > 3286.
The best retro improvement would be to use Chromalight for all 24 Hr bezel positions on the dial.

I have the black dial version of this watch. Love it. The Explorer II and the Milgauss are the last of the great Rolex tool watches. Would love to see the cream colored dial brought back for a anniversary edition of this watch.

You can only ever track 2 zone times, whether it is a gmt master 2 or explorer 2... for the zone times concurrently you would need both a fixed 24 hour scale and a rotating 24 hour scale, like some grand seiko gmt watches for example

That's a great looking watch. I have a 16570 polar dial and want the new one but can't justify myself getting one.

Such an amazing travel watch. Waaay better in person! I hope they don’t put a ceramic bezel on it...the steel bezel looks amazing when worn, scratched and faded.
I got the new versione few days ago (226570) that is very similar with minor changes. I have a 19cm wrist so for me is good

A movement update is a sure thing for the 50th anniversary 😌
Never liked it. But, once I saw it on someone's wrist it completely changed. It looked really good. And, I started to like it.

Nice watch, really hope that Rolex don’t change the look of the Explorer range too drastically as it has been an iconic model in the catalog for so many years, Rolex tend to go for evolution rather than revolution so here’s hoping.
I think they should keep it the same except offer it in a 39 or 40. Keep the bezel keep the color keep everything. Maybe .... maybe ..... make the GMT hand green and make all the lettering black. But that’s it. I don’t think ceramic makes sense for what this watch was intended for. It’s a true utility watch and ceramic adds to much gloss.

I doubt Rolex would incorporate a ceramic bezel to the new Explorer II, but I hope they do!
If Rolex put a black ceramic bezel on that watch it would look much more like a Daytona. Seeing as how white dial Daytonas are trading upwards of $30k as of this post, an Explorer II that had a similar look would be a terrific success.
I wish they would come out with a 39mm no polish case version of the Explorer II. 🤷🏻♂️

The explorer 2 always came with a steel bezel so I don’t see Rolex introducing a ceramic bezel now. Then again who knows what they might do. Less than a month to find out
The Submariner, GMT, Daytona never had ceramic bezels until the latest generations. Times change. Rolex evolves.
Personally I would love to get the Exp II. Look at pre-owned models - that steel bezel can get badly scratched, marring the looks. That's always turned me off. Since Rolex wants their watches to look perfect, I am anticipating that they will address this in the 2021 release.

Lovely watch, but is it true that now the AD remove the stickers before give you the watch? So we pay thousands of dollars and Rolex doesn't allow you to enjoy the unboxing. Wow.
Yes it's true. Rolex mandated the removal of stickers at the point of sale.

Very photogenic watch. Take your Explorer 1 and give it to a homeless guy on the sidewalk. You’ll never need it again. This watch is AMAZING! I hope they don’t change it at all. (Maybe new movement with 72hr power reserve - but change NOTHING on the outside.)
