Being blunt is one thing. Being a disrespectful Narcissist piece of shit is a different thing. See I can also be blunt and disrespectful. He always attacks Al Pacino and never let's him express himself. WE ALL HAVE THE RIGHT TO AN OPINION. POSITIVE OR NEGATIVE. I never liked Friedkin for this. He once said in an interview to Pacino... "I don't give a flying FUCK into a rolling donut about what Al Pacino thinks" Well I don't give a FUCK what you think Billy. RESPECT IF YOU WANT RESPECT YOU Narcissistic Jack-Ass. R.I.P. Brother. ✌✌✌
My favorite moment didn't make this video-- Friedkin's bemused response to Kermode asking if the lampposts in the park at night are somehow connected to The Exorcist.. Still laughing as I type this. RIP BILLY!
I watched one of your older videos and instantly put your whole video catalogue in my watch later playlist. this is the first video i came back to...instantly subscribed. i can't believe william friedkin's is so funny, maybe i should watch some of his movies
It really would have been different with Richard Gere, but he wasn’t as established at this point he would have been typecast if he did this and American Gigolo both.
Love Friedkin but he always sounded unfairly bitter at Al for what’s fundamentally just a weak script. If you give Al solid material, he’ll elevate it. Give him shit, and he won’t save it. There’s great stuff in Cruising, but compared with French Connection or Sorcerer, it’s pervasively dull, poorly paced, and falls flat at the end.
Gere would have been perfect for this though, he comes across as gay and everyone has always speculated he is. And he has a sexuality that Pacino doesn't. Pacino was also too old for the role.@@clinteastwood6875
@@clinteastwood6875 Pacino may be a more talented actor than Gere (at least at this point in his career), but he was comically miscast in this film, being a decade too old and not conventionally good-looking. All jokes about Gere's sexuality aside, he was a more natural choice for an undercover cop trying to lure a serial killer who targets athletic, handsome gay men.
@@coachbombay7576 Pacino isn’t conventionally good looking? Going to have to disagree there. Richard Gere was a better casting choice in hindsight but I feel like Friedkin would have gone after Richard too if the movie still failed. Because the movie definitely has other problems than just who’s cast as the lead.
What you say is true and I agree to some extent but there were lots of scenes that didn’t make it to the Final Cut, that might include some missing pieces of the narrative puzzle thus harming the fluidity as a whole
He followed up Sorcerer with this shit. I'm surprised he ever got to make another movie. This is an awful movie to watch. It's not interesting at all. I don't know who the target audience . I mean it is just so weird. He should have gone toward more commercial type movies rather than always trying to be edgy.
RIP Billy Friedkin.
"Well that's a good thing he's not very eloquent" 💀💀💀
He was suffering from some major Richard Gere Regret on the day he recorded this lol..... RIP, what a character..
HILARIOUS!
😂If there is a top 10 list of savage celebrities, Friedkin is on it. He is probably even on the top 5 list.
He's open about is hatred of Pacino in several interviews. Pacino is my favourite actor but it's hilarious.@@hector-sauvage
his immediate, deadpan “yes of course” kills me
I want to hear this full commentary track so bad. Billy is so funny and doesn't give a flying fuck into a rolling donut.
"We decided to jump off Richard Gere"
Friedkin knew what he was doing when he phrased it like that.
Of course he did. Lololol
Did he have an Eric Clapton situation(like with the son)? What's the context?
I’ve just read his memoir and I’m sitting here cracking up at 2:30am watching this video. Friedkin was a brilliant and blunt man and I adore him. RIP.

Also been listening to his audio book of his memoir. He reads it himself. Its amazing. He's the best.
Easily the funniest director
He was a real one
One of my favorite movies of all time

What did Friedkin say?
@@MilesjDoyle billy said all of that? must have missed that part of the commentary
you are an absolute legend for these

The way he so casually says “this is a fistfucking scene” omfg
love that your still doing these cuts
Now that is a man who is truly comfortable with his sexuality! Great stuff
William Friedkin was another level of savage
people like this (sensitive, ok, in his own way, intelligent, hilarious...) should not pass away. Rest in peace Billy.
Sums it up perfectly.
"Now this is a controversial moment..."
"It's a fistfucking scene."
This man's manner of speaking is great.
"when you first gave it to the ratings board--"
"They saw it all. With closeups."
We need more filmmakers like him
thats all richard gere needed,
was more fuel to the fire. makes me think the gerbil rumor was true
It really would have been different with Richard Gere, but he wasn’t as established at this point he would have been typecast if he did this and American Gigolo both.
Richard Gere would have blown the house down
And then shoot the movie afterwards.
Could you upload the hole commentary
Pricele$$
RIP
Where can you listen to the full version of this?
Possible the Arrow Blu ray release
Yep, Arrow Video blu-ray release. Great disc
0:19 *Genovese crime family
Woow 😂

Yeah he seems unnecessarily harsh. Plus, Richard Gere is a great actor. But compared to Pacino? C’mon…

what a roundabout way of announcing how tasteless you are.
