How many people did McCarthy torture, jail or kill? None. Many of his accusations were correct, some definitely were not. Some people lost their jobs because of unfair accusations. Gee, that happens every week now if you are accused of racism or "inappropriate" behavior. Welles was a leftie. It was a fact that there were actual Soviet agents in our government including at the highest level. This was a time when Stalin and Mao were marching ine very direction and building nuclear bombs.

Welles is right about Kazan. He was a turd of a human being who betrayed some of the best entertainers and writers of the day; Zero Mostel, Howard Da Silva, Burgess Meredith, Pete Seeger, Dalton Trumbo, and many others on the altar of Joe McCarthy's malignant ego.

Kurt Russel had by far all the best lines. Really, really good film, action packed and full of constant one liners. The camp is so perfectly timed it is just bonkers. I still say the film lines. One mild rant: The film could have done without the phrase, “Now that really Pis*** me off,” but oh well. This film is beloved by children to this very day and it’s 2024.

The biggest difference between people who I identify as communists and people who identify as McCarthyists is the words they use to describe themselves. They are both insufferably cult-like, abuse the word "traitor" more than the Bush administration, and can't view a single thing outside a narrow ideological lens.
