So she used 4 cups of liquid, use 1 cup of grits.

So here I am, up in New England, screaming "MY COUSIN VINNY" at a 3 year old video.
Now I know the difference between grits and polenta, never heard of anybody ever putting milk in polenta. Garlic, cheese, sausage, ...sure,
we even use the coarser grind yellow corn.
You are just the cutest thing I've seen here in a while,

Bradley Davis As a Texan..... I say that you can add whatever the hell you want to grits. It's a breakfast/lunch/dinner food. butter and honey/sugar and fruit for a sweet meal, cheese and bacon/other meat for a savory protein rich meal.... grits are more versatile than oats or rice. You can even make fried grits "pancakes". Anyone who limits foods and doesn't explore their full potential is not a true southern cook.

I'm on the prowl for an excellent recipe for Grits and Shrimp that does not use any part of the peeg, the Schwine, the 4-legged garbage disposal (otherwise known as the pig, the hog, the grunt-grunt). I grew up Southern and have made 70 trips around the Sun, but never knew that grits would be more creamy using half milk and half water. All I ever used was water, and my grits turned out...well, not so creamy. So you CAN teach an old dog new tricks. I'll try this recipe tomorrow. Thanks!

I like my grits gritty. Only 10-15 minutes of cooking and there's a crunch to it. :) ... and I do love "that" movie with Joe Pesci and Marisa Tomei. I think Tomei won an Oscar for that movie.

That was a great video. My wife, daughter, son and myself are from New Mexico. We've been living in Middle TN for 20 years. Which seems to be enough time to have surprise baby daughter who is now 11 years old. My wife was sharing an experience about a discussion with co-workers. Somewhere along the line, my wife expressed to them that grits come from corn. They were shocked to hear her say that. In fact, they did not believe her. Her co-workers are from the nearby area or in the south !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They didn't know grits are course ground corn.
I then proceeded to teach my 11-year old that grits are ground corn. She having been born in Middle TN she better know this. My wife suggested to show our 11-year old the segment of MY COUSIN VINNY. But, before we did that I wanted to show her videos from RUclips about grits. That's when we came across your video. AND YOU WERE REFERRING TO THE MOVIE ALSO !!!!!!! That part was weird. My wife and I prepared to show the movie segment. Then, saw your video making reference to the movie also.
Take care. Thanks for the 23 minute grits.
Yes, I subscribed to your channel.

Tennessee neither wants nor needs you. We were a flyover state that wasnt good enough 30 years ago and by gawd we're not good enough now. So leave. Go back to your blue hell hole you created. When things go down, i ASSURE YOU, theres plenty of people like me that will desl swiftly with people like you

    Holy hell!
    Salt!!
    Pepper!!
    And Butter!!!!
I’m not saying you shouldn’t like whatever you like... but it’s grits 😂
    Salt, pepper and butter.
If your pot of grits doesn’t have a yellow shine around the outside, you haven’t added enough butter.
Fresh salt right before serving ontop is a must, salt activates our tastebuds 👍
Great video! And you know what, I can see the sugar/syrup actually being good, who hasn’t had pancakes and grits on a plate, and had alittle syrup find its way over to the grits, I’ve always loved those bites..
Good god... do I like syrup on my grits...
    😳

I had grits for the first time, just now. I was in the supermarket and I saw a bag of grits, remembered the movie and bought it. There were instructions how to make it in the microwave so I did that. It did spill over while cooking. My opinion is, it tasted like water, so I added sugar and honey. It was okay. Yours was much creamier than how mine turned out.

Uh oh - did you use water or milk when cooking? That can make a difference too. I've found that slowing down and working on the stovetop allows the grains to really absorb the cooking liquid and flavors. I hope it works better next time!

      I used water, no milk.

never, ever cook grits in a microwave....not hard to make really good creamy grits... every cook has their own way of making and serving to their family... try to make it on the stove top... if you use less quantities - as a serving for one - it really doesn't take that long to cook. have a great day :)

    • @TexasGabby1

no - you can have true stone ground grits shipped to you... there is a difference between grits and cornmeal....

I’m very much enjoying your video and your humor. Thank you however I’m unclear is it 4 cups of liquid or is it 2 cups of grits and 2 cups of liquid? You didn’t really clarify that in the video and you may have pointed in stuff but unfortunately I’m visually impaired and didn’t see that. Please keep up the awesome stuff and you have a subscriber.
