They wrote 'removed OUTDATED fullscreen option.' in the patchnotes, making borderless window the new default setting... I'm actually speechless. How is the fullscreen mode outdated?! Let's hope they won't consider SC being a PC game 'outdated'...
They have to run it in borderless windowed to make it console compatible. Consoles effectively run borderless windowed, or you couldnt open the menus. I used to think it was a joke that Star citizen was being developed backwards. Now development is actually moving backwards but it's prettier than ever.
they should have implemented a version of building blocks into dumpers depot so taht we can customize any info we want and the font / scale on each mfd freely and maybe combine some... also a hex tool to dumpers depot so we can change color on vehicles... this would have lifted the game to where it should be..
You're looking at the _same_ person that got temp-banned (24 hour) from Spectrum for suggesting hex color codes on ship exterior paint, good luck suggesting those.
@kekstunker6057 vertical scroll bars are still incredible silly. How do you want to use this quickly in the middle of a fight? Use pre-made profiles? Sure, but what if something goes wrong and I need more power into shields for example?
Despite the fisher price graphics, we are talking 2954, why did we switch from led screens to crt? It just doesn't fit at all. I like the new clean view, but the MFDs look... add some insults here
not only is this HUD disgustingly bad looking i change my interaction mode to be more similar to the old one and every time i tap through the windows on the HUD it just goes out of interaction mode, after each damn click. every little bit of this new HUD and MM is coming together to be the perfect garbage. this is such a sublime display of incompetence and suck that i am at a genuine loss of words. this is just insane. these devs have lost the plot.

Whether the problem is CR or someone else, the people who had the experience and clout to say “no” to Chris all left or were fired long ago, I suspect.
I think it would be pretty important to make your flight model and flight experience top notch in a game focused on and funded by.... spaceships. Until these things are completely reworked, the game is unplayable. Flying anywhere is a tedious and cumbersome experience. Always has been.
Chris has always preferred form over function, but this? II do not think it looks better, but that might be personal taste. The Titan and the Cat are actually quite nice, but what the hell happened to the Conny? And on the Freelancer it is a nightmare!! This ship already has the worst cockpit view, but CIG managed to make it even worse. Instead of placing the information somewhere at the unused space in the upper part, they place giant child toy elements right in the already limited view space. If you look at the Freelancer now, it seems that CIG made a statement to finally abandon all ties to a space sim and go fully arcade. Sorry for the rant, I can now only hope for the next rework of this rework - sadly not in the next years. Thanks for showing this before/after comparison. And as always on your channel - facts not fiction! Really appreciate it.
VTOL, speed, countermeasures etc are displayed as a sort of, projected hologram. Ship/Shield Status is a projected hologram. So why are there screens? I suppose they are the elements we "interact" with. Fischer Price gave me a chuckle XD
Some random thoughts: Firstly, I already didn't bother updating to 3.24, so haven't even played since then and I won't bother updating to and playing 3.24.2, I just can't bring myself to do it, the game looks that awful and unfun. Then, what's with this scroll bar in the power management display? Who designed this? I work for an automation company and if we designed HMIs like that, our customers would chase us off their premises and throw the circuit cabinet after us. It could be so easy: the icons for the systems are narrow enough, just reduce the width of the columns, adjust their spacing a little and everything fits next to each other onto one screen, then put the (strangely placed) power output widget in a line where the scrollbar was - and done, power management screen fixed... The radar sound reminds me of the SRV scanner sweep sound from Elite:Dangerous, really annoying, especially when you have to listen to it for hours, but at least it served a purpose there and changed in pitch depending on what the scanner picked up. Battlestar Galacticas DRADIS displays had a similar sound, but there it was an audio clue for the viewer to better understand what was shown and played only for a second while the display was in view. We don't need that in a space sim. Also, not fewer MFDs! In many ships we would need even more of them. Shaking my head...
Even though the previous UI/MFD setup wasn't perfect, It was still way better than what we have now. I guess it fits with the Fisher-Price/Mastermodes flight model... sigh
The Cutlass MFDs look terrible, less space sim and more arcade. So disappointed when I logged in to check them out today. I am really not seeing how this is a step forward.
Profit is one reason, yes. Most likely the main reason. The other is testing data. Back during the absolute disaster that was the 3.18.0 launch, when CIG talked about it later, they said they did it because they weren't getting enough testing data on the PTU build, so they push it to live to get a broader user base. I would not be surprised if the same problem is happening now too. Average player hours are way down this year because the entire year they have delivered only features that most backers either dislike or don't care about. A lot of people are likely taking a break right now trying to avoid the game due to burnout, planning to come back during or after CitCon. Of course, a competent developer should not need testing data to know this new HUD is bad. They should not need a mountain of user feedback to know that a HUD's ONE JOB is to be usable and functional, and appearance should ALWAYS be an afterthought with a HUD. Real aircraft HUDs look like an old Amiga computer, but guess what? They give you all the information you need to fly the plane, and that's the only thing that really matters. This is not to say a HUD must be ugly, but rather than functionality should always come first. If you must sacrifice 1% functionality for a 10% visual improvement, then simply don't. But CIG hired a guy who made a movie prop to design their HUD, and in his mind, all that matters is that players like how it looks. Competency in HUD design isn't on the payroll at CIG.
when in combat the screen diminishes because someone told the devs of tunnel sight, so they tried to recreate it, you are most likely not going to see even more info now yay
The tunnel vision of stress diminishes with repeated exposure. Actual pilots also receive visual search training to develop habits that counteract this. What is largely fixed is the tunnel vision associated with high velocity and near objects. Mostly being a physical limitations of the lens and image forming nature of your eyeball this does not improve a lot with experience and only worsens with age. A typical video game monitor - even a large one - poorly represents this and attempts to simulate it are annoying and inaccurate.
@@ThomasD66 Thank you I do understand the actual physical effects and why but the forced effect by CIG is irritating and does not let you see all your monitors during play and from the look of the new set up it will be even less.
I like the new look of the displays and the vendor distinctions but that's as far as it goes. - Not a fan of reducing the number of displays in any ship (mostly Drake from your comparisons) - Not a fan of critical information no longer being front and centre where you can quickly eyeball it (you _could_ make the argument that non-combat ships don't need all that, I suppose...) - Not a fan of the new usability (if that is even an appropriate word for mouse interactions on displays. Good luck with that in emergency situations!) Going to be looking at what can be keybound later but if there aren't keybind options for that power management set up. Well - let's just leave that thought there... . It's fascinating that CIG's approach to making the UI more usable and approachable for new players (and console players?) actually achieves the exact opposite - it takes real skill to be that wrong.
Unfortunately this is what I've come to expect of CIG's reworks. Looks pretty, worse functionality. Also, wasn't there some setting in the menu to add some elements near the reticle?
Yep the MFDs look extremely unimmersive and the HUD doesn't show the distance to a target anymore. But what annoys me the most is the green space everywhere, even on moons at night it looks green everywhere. Ridiculous! And 30k protection obviously doesn't work anymore! Congrats to CiG for being the most regressive company!
Okay, you did it. You made me install the new patch and have a look on my own. From the vid I would say "Well, not that bad" 🤔 Also what I heard from master modes. I really need to check
good for pointing out the radar sound since i was going mad over it but my friends just said "i dont notice it". I also hate the new radar since its so high up in the middle in most ships and the "projector" effect is annoying
this UI update is so much worse and adding to the awfulness of MM in ways that i have no comparison to. my cat had violent diarreah from parasites that smelled so rotten i puked from the rotten stench it left for an hour after airing out the house, my neighbours even complained. i would gladly inhale that crap over playing with this garbage UI. every bit about it is rotten and so stupid it makes me mad that someone who creates crap like this is allowed to have a job.
I’m also disappointed with the MFDs! It doesn’t make sense that in an F-16 I have more information and options than in a ship like the Carrack. I’d like to see engine pressurization, different types of weather radars, planetary surface depressurization systems, a humidity reader, onboard water reserves, oil levels, exterior temperature, the ability to toggle my external navigation lights, and feel like I have tons of functions and information at my fingertips! Sure, it’s nice to make things simpler, but we’re moving away from the simulator and realistic aspect.
People always tend to polarize, especially with change. It's either all good or all bad. The new MFDs have their good points and bad points. It's the first iteration. They'll be tweaked over time.
Hmmm....we have decades of experience with HUDs. Pilots have refined what information is needed and the best places to display it. CIG threw a working HUD design in the garbage and went with this idiotic design. There is no "iteration" out of stupid decision making.
@BigBobBlazer there is no polarization: -we are in year 12 (soon year 13) -we have the sixth or seventh HUD/MFD design now -it is even worse than what we had before, which was not decent either -CIG doesn't even look at real life things and tries to go from there -CIG always goes their own flawed way -the people who worked on the terrible, very user unfriendly 3.23 Ironman UI and 3.24.2 new HUD/MFDs only care about a cool cinematic look, they don't care about function or usability, they never worked on any game before. So what is there to do for us? Buy more ships and hope for the best? Hope that in another 12 years, we might get a decent UI?
So much of this should be user configurable. In atmo I would always want altitude and airspeed in an actual HUD. In space I would prefer closing speed relative to any selected target/abject. (Let's face it, out in near zero G absolute reported speed is as gamey as gamey gets.) The scrolling MFD for power management is a sick joke.
This ISNT year 12 Camural. This is year 15 of the project and year 14 of development. 12 years is how long they have been wasting backer money. Oh, and lets not forget, next month is the 11th year of the delayed release of SQ42 and the beta for the PU. Happy citCON everyone! lololol
Can almost live with the vertical scroll bars (for mouse wheel, joystick wheels, HAT/analogue switches), but definitely not the horizontal ones, that's just unintuitive/bad design. Rather split that between 2 screens as example that scrolling to the side imo
@@the_babbleboom they spend more resources on trying to control the narrative than they do trying to make a decent game. Spectrum is nothing but a fascist echo chamber.
Yeah, any hud should be strongly based off of real military and F1 performance controls. With only slight to small options to leave the model. Along with some cool perks added. But it is a bit funny to see the arrogance of a group of high wage earners think they are so smart and can recreate the wheel to the point of military combat and high performance cutting edge excellence.
@Mace1000S I never understood one thing: If unsure, look at real life things and go from there, but CIG never does this. CIG always goes their own flawed way. How about looking at real fighter HUDs? How about looking at real 8 by 8 military trucks and understand why ground clearance is important, instead of creating the no ground clearance Ballista abomination? So many designs in Star Citizen are just bad and would be terrible for a 5 year old.
I was confused as well. I THINK it is for afterburner. Not sure why we need that info always on and taking up critical space. It used to only show up when boosting and recharging. Now we get it always.
I don’t mind the look. It’s less functional but eh. I don’t mind the sound, canopy ambience or whichever. But I HATE scrollbar and I HATE interaction system that places F on everyone making pressing things on accident too easy.
YES!!! i was struggling to express how bad this ui is , it reminded me of playing the old wing commander game 30 years ago ,but without the fun gameplay.... honestly im close to giving up , I fear it will takeanother 5 years to rework this crap and boom , out of date again. I have lost most of my faith in CR now , this is not a project any more , its a cash milking scheme ...I WANT TO BE WRONG but they keep doing this and bang heres the sales..... Honestly not sure where to go from here
The previous MFDs weren't great and suffered from a lot of issues, but at least they looked like a finished product. These new ones feels rushed, incomplete, and lack any polish or creativity - they looks like they were designedin PowerPoint and then ported directly in... I know CIG likes to tout their new systems as 'Tier 0', but I wouldn't even consider them up to that standard.
I honestly think this game is in the last stages of its life. The passion from both the devs and players is dwindling. The bad design decisions like this and mastermodes have made the game just not enjoyable at all, not to mention the constant delays on 4.0, the AI just not getting better whatsoever and the bugs. Oh GOD the bugs.
Don't agree with radar sounds for sure, other statements are true mostly. We need something like a separate QoL patch without any new features or game(-play) systems but just improving player experience with the existing ones.
Turquoise, blue, yellow, red - way too many completely unrelated colors on the screens. This looks so so cheap. And where's the iconic green of Drake MFDs? I kinda like the free windshield and clearer view, but this looks really like a toy cockpit.
Sorry, I had to remove the song, copyright claim.
I had permissions to use this song a while ago, but looks like it is not in the catalogue anymore.

Congrats to CiG for being the most regressive company!
Okay, you did it. You made me install the new patch and have a look on my own. From the vid I would say "Well, not that bad" 🤔 Also what I heard from master modes. I really need to check
OK the Fisher Price thumbnail pulled me in. 😆
So... the MFDs look like toys and the actual HUD info are... simply gone? What an improvement... ☹
Anyone who defends these new MFDs clearly have never played any combat flight sims / games like DCS, Arma 3, ACE Combat, etc. This is straight up sad.
Radar sound I don't mind. It gives me old low-tech sci-fi of the 80's vibe.
good for pointing out the radar sound since i was going mad over it but my friends just said "i dont notice it".
I also hate the new radar since its so high up in the middle in most ships and the "projector" effect is annoying
That thumbnail 😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
The MFDd are a failure, both graphically and functionally. How does this happen?
Style over function and visuals over gameplay are the definitions of SC ..
It was so much better before. The development was so slow that it started going backwards.
this UI update is so much worse and adding to the awfulness of MM in ways that i have no comparison to.
my cat had violent diarreah from parasites that smelled so rotten i puked from the rotten stench it left for an hour after airing out the house, my neighbours even complained.
i would gladly inhale that crap over playing with this garbage UI. every bit about it is rotten and so stupid it makes me mad that someone who creates crap like this is allowed to have a job.
I just watched some of the Atmo Esports that was streamed after CitCon, they were using the old HUD 😅
Manifest MFD page is missing.
Didn´t CIG talked about giving us information about ship cargo load with the new HUD system?
Old mfd > New mfd
People always tend to polarize, especially with change. It's either all good or all bad. The new MFDs have their good points and bad points. It's the first iteration. They'll be tweaked over time.
Hmmm....we have decades of experience with HUDs. Pilots have refined what information is needed and the best places to display it.
CIG threw a working HUD design in the garbage and went with this idiotic design.
There is no "iteration" out of stupid decision making.
@BigBobBlazer there is no polarization:
-we are in year 12 (soon year 13)
-we have the sixth or seventh HUD/MFD design now
-it is even worse than what we had before, which was not decent either
-CIG doesn't even look at real life things and tries to go from there
-CIG always goes their own flawed way
-the people who worked on the terrible, very user unfriendly 3.23 Ironman UI and 3.24.2 new HUD/MFDs only care about a cool cinematic look, they don't care about function or usability, they never worked on any game before.
So what is there to do for us?
Buy more ships and hope for the best?
Hope that in another 12 years, we might get a decent UI?
This is all far too complicated for me .
Light reflection on canopy in some ships is terrible. Really CIG?! Now I'm blind pilot, I see nothing xD as always good job CIG xD
I saw it on a stream yesterday and said almost exactly that: looks like a cheap plastic toy
So much of this should be user configurable. In atmo I would always want altitude and airspeed in an actual HUD. In space I would prefer closing speed relative to any selected target/abject.
(Let's face it, out in near zero G absolute reported speed is as gamey as gamey gets.)
The scrolling MFD for power management is a sick joke.
The colours and design of MFD's tell me they will consider SC mobile gameplay😂
0:08 - but I was informed by totally trustworthy youtubers that this is the best, most stable patch ever.
It's the color scheme and blocky. Was good to move the lines of the Hud tho
Well, at least the Cutlass spinning fan is back. 🤷♂
Fisher Price UI, Playskool flight model
This ISNT year 12 Camural. This is year 15 of the project and year 14 of development. 12 years is how long they have been wasting backer money. Oh, and lets not forget, next month is the 11th year of the delayed release of SQ42 and the beta for the PU. Happy citCON everyone! lololol
If CIG had a map to good design, they would still get lost.
Every cockpit feela the same now...
Can almost live with the vertical scroll bars (for mouse wheel, joystick wheels, HAT/analogue switches), but definitely not the horizontal ones, that's just unintuitive/bad design. Rather split that between 2 screens as example that scrolling to the side imo
Been saying this shit looks terrible since it came out but I just get my post deleted and banned anytime I voice dissatisfaction.
or as spectrum whiteknights called it, the most transparent developer ever that is open to feedback
@@Camural very true, it’s a real truth across the board. And is not hard to understand. Just a touch of common sense.
Yes
Oh wow, this actually looks shit. Well done CIG. Does the square block go in the square hole ?
I have to wonder how many gaffes, delays and failures it will take to dissuade the average Star Citizen fan in 2024.
Imagine wearing pants in space
What TF this AFT mean? I don't even know it and don't use it, but it is there, instead of fuel amount info. Jeez.
I was confused as well. I THINK it is for afterburner. Not sure why we need that info always on and taking up critical space. It used to only show up when boosting and recharging. Now we get it always.
The radar display is so cringe. Little Hollywood-style graphical radar pulses. 🤮
There is an interesting report on SC in Insider Gaming by Tom Henderson. Doesn't look good. He talked to dozens of employes.
Live 3.24.2 has pretty much been unplayable today anyway.
The important info is so hidden
Don't agree with radar sounds for sure, other statements are true mostly. We need something like a separate QoL patch without any new features or game(-play) systems but just improving player experience with the existing ones.
And that skybox is so horrible
PURE WTF AGAIN.. . and lol poor drake ships
Turquoise, blue, yellow, red - way too many completely unrelated colors on the screens. This looks so so cheap. And where's the iconic green of Drake MFDs?
I kinda like the free windshield and clearer view, but this looks really like a toy cockpit.
naive sheeps still buying ships....but the game runs like shiat
Why make that sound not be optional, its horrible.
WHY WHY WHY
Have they found that they really just can't deliver on what they promised and so they're doing everything they can to destroy the game?
Fisher price 😂😂
