Huge thank you for this video. I recently paid $2000 to have my AC compressor and condenser swapped; I was really bummed when it blew room temp air 80% of the time. The thought of another $2K to pull the dash and swap the part was awful. I bought the part from Ford for $60ish, and swapped it myself in 15 minutes. Thank you again!
Thank you for the DIY fix. I have a 2012 F250. The first A/C shop I went to for a diagnosis, told me that I needed a new condenser, evaporator, & expansion valve (estimated 1400.00). Went to a 2nd shop for another opinion - they couldn't find the issue as the A/C was working great that day 🤷♂️ 3rd shop (which I should have went to in the beginning) put it on the computer and it showed the temp sensor. They said it would be around 950.00 and would have to have it for 2 days as it was an 11-12 hour job. I came to RUclips to just check since I now knew the issue and found your video. I ordered the sensor from Amazon. It took about 15 minutes to install it. Cut a 3 sided door with a electric hot knife. Taped it up as you did with foil tape. Thanks again !

We bought a super duty truck that was having intermittent AC issues where, especially on hot (90+ degrees) and humid days the AC just wouldn't turn on, or if it did it may just blow cool but not cold air through the vents. We had a shop diagnose it and they thought it was a faulty AC evaporator core temperature sensor. They also quoted me ~$1200 in labor to replace the ~$40 part. They said that they would have to remove the whole dash to replace the sensor. I did some research on RUclips and in ford truck forums and found enough information to figure out how to change the sensor without taking the dash out. I had not seen anyone else post a video of this so, here it is. I hope it helps someone save some real $$$!
I think I'm doing the same I change my evaporator and heater core do to a leak and change the compressor too since it went out to now my ac only works for a hr and then blows hot air i turn it off for 10 min and it works again I'll try this method to see if it helps. I had told my mechanic once he had all the dash out it wouldn't hurt to change that sensor and he said does don't mess up and look at me now seeing your video lol
@@terrorofdemons1168 I am absolutely uncertain about the similarity of configuration for the HVAC box between the F-150 and the F-250 and up super dutys. The F-150 dash is completely different than the super duty dash so it is very possible that the location of the sensor is different in a 150... Sorry I don't know!
Dude I'm so glad to hear that, when I sorted it out myself I just wanted to pass it forward because the shop/dealer approach is just wasteful and inefficient, 🍻 cheers

BADASS I did my evap last yr what a pain in the ass just spent 570.00 today on a comp,expansion valve,& rebuild for reciver dryer witch is a chour on its own,I noticed after driving my truck 358 miles ac was getting warmer then not blowing LOL after making it home went to unload truck noticed mass condisation leaking Thank God For RUclips 👍 great video

@@terrorofdemons1168 I found that the '16 Lariat doesn't have the sensor... Can not figure out a fix (private shops, dealers, etc. are all stumped). We even refreshed the ECM.
@@TalonID I checked on rockauto and it’s showing your model has an ambient air sensor. Maybe that’s the problem. My 2011 f150 has the evap temp sensor. I cut a hole in the box yesterday and looked at it. It doesn’t look quite the same as the superduty part but I ordered one just to take a chance and see if it will work. If the ohm range is the same I think it will.
Did this last night. Worked in the driveway and while driving around town. Now on the highway it’s still cycling from cold to cool/luke warm. I’ve noticed it gets colder while going downhill and through any towns. Warmer when accelerating or keeping speed….any thoughts?
Why in the hell Ford transitioned from the orifice expansion device using a low pressure switch to an expansion valve using high side pressure switch and an evaporator temperature sensor is beyond me. Then to boot they have now managed to make repair to blend door or mode door actuators, evaporator, evaporator temp sensor a major expensive feat in every model vehicle they make.
Did the sensor you bought work like it should, allowing the compressor to cycle on and off? If so, what sensor did you buy? You wouldn’t happen to have a product link or description would you?
It did work like it should, I've had no problems related to the sensor since I installed it last year, the compressor cycles as it should now. I bought the Ford / Motorcraft part YH1735. I bought it off of eBay, here's a link www.ebay.com/itm/124139602354 Cheers🍻
Thank you for sharing! I have the same problem in my Ford Explorer 2014. But i can't find the right sensor... I bought a Super Duty sensor, and VCM shows 182°F 🤦 when cabin temperature is only 70°F. I mean, the A/C blows cold air, but sensor says we are at hell 😅. The thing is, i can't regulate the temperature, always is cooling and sometimes we are chilling inside. Any idea?
@@jamesonmcmanus9003 I didn't do anything to clear any code. It just worked as soon as I had the new sensor in. I had had the entire system diagnosed and it was otherwise in operational condition with refrigerant full and tested as leak free like a day or 2 before I drove it home and did this.
So did you change the air temperature sensor because it wasn't blowing very cold or because not cooling at all. I get high velocity but only 65° at vent. Used to blow 50°.
@ManguENT yea I think my problem is I bought the cheaper evaporator coil for $53 from a a/c shop instead of buying the $550 one from Ford. Think that could be a possibility on mine? Every other part accept the ac lines are brand new
Well I'm not really sure, but if I were in your shoes I would look at the parts diagrams for your year truck, if the sensor is in the same position it probably will work!

Sounds like your evap core was freezing up. Did you change the sensor and get it working right?

@@terrorofdemons1168 I found that the '16 Lariat doesn't have the sensor... Can not figure out a fix (private shops, dealers, etc. are all stumped). We even refreshed the ECM.

It works better if you leave the sensor out of the box. With it back in the box the compressor still cuts out way too much.

Did you go through a drive cycle after you did this and it just went away? Or did you have to delete the code and then it worked?

The compresor doesnt turn on if the sensor is bad.

imagine paying $900 at a dealership to have this part replaced and when you inspect their work you find this...
