  • On this episode we review one of the most iconic mid-tier watches available, the Sinn 556 A. The 556 line sets the standard for quality pilots watches, it's leagues ahead of most watches below its price point and really not too far off of iconic pilots watches that are double the cost. Now it's not the 'best' watch in any particular category but everything it does do, it just does so excellent that you can easily understand how such a stark and minimalist watch has gained so much popularity over the years. While it doesn't offer a huge bargain per its specs, it does offer a very solid timepiece at a very solid value. So it's a $1,300 watch that feels like one on wrist. It's a serious timepiece for those looking to fill that space in their collection and I think in that respect, the Sinn 556 A really delivers and justifies its current price point. Let me know what you guys think in the comments below, thanks guys.

The part where you dimmed the lights and moved the source around, that just slayed me.I love the look of this watch, great review.

I have promoted the 556I B to grail. It was the Explorer but I can't ever see wearing that much money on my wrist.

Lux watches are silly amounts of money. So much extra money for such a tiny (if any) amount of additional function and refinement. Definitely not worth it for me.

A great review, I couldn't agree more. Love the 556 as a great all around, understated classic.

Nice review. A hot looking watch, great versatile wearer, love the lug holes for that .. great water resistance .. I've always heard the lume on the Sinn is disappointing for this price range, which would bug me after a while despite all the good things about this piece. I was looking at the 857 UTC before as a short term grail, but my interest waned because of the lume ... Stowa is now on the radar with the C3 lume.

Just a thought, my dad used a diver's extension to wear his watch over his flight jacket. Not sure how common this is now but...

    • @FT4Freedom
      @FT4Freedom 5 лет назад +1

Exactly. Pilot extension bracelet. Pilots were frequently wearing the instruments outside the jacket because they were freezing ass cold in the older tin cans. Much more convenient to see the instrument outside the jacket.

Great review, thank you. The 556i is on my short list of a 36-38mm pilot/ tool, everday type of watch. I like the smaller sizes.

I like the smaller sizes as well. I have a Marathon medium GSAR and I’m looking to buy either the Damasko DS30 (39mm) or this 556A by the years end. Decisions decisions

A bit small? How and why? This watch doesn't look small on your wrist by any stretch of the imagination.

I would prefer the Stowa, but the Sinn's 200m water resistance blows it away. I just wish Stowa would get the 100m of their sport model into their 40mm line.

That iconic 12-3-6-9 dial Sinn is a masterpiece. Extreme well balanced layouts which embodies utility, sportiness, elegance all at the same time. Everything about it screams man's watch, but I sure would not find it unattractive on a woman either

I have the Stowa which is around same price as the Sinn $1000,00. I put a black nato on the Stowa its great and yes if it was a 100 m it will be perfect.
Sinn 556 is a real tool watch to take any place, vacations, sports etc.

The lume should be booming for a pilot watch. And the second hand is critical to be lumed. Navigation requires seconds to be seen.

Nice. Just picked up a Damasko D36. They make a bracelet for it but it’s $$$. Interestingly, a Damasko used to make cases for Sinn...

The Hamilton Khaki has the same 2824 ETA movement and a display case back. No it's not water proof to 200 meters. But it's about half the price of the Sinn!

Sinn has a Top Grade ETA, anti magnetic, shock proofing (that comes with the top grade) plus the 200 meter rating and the awesome bracelet. I've had both, not arguing your point, just elaborating on the differences.

Helmut Sinn was with Bell & Ross for about 10 years in the early 90's to about 2002 which accounts for the similar look. The Stowa and Damasko are nicer than the 556 I think

Sinn's H-Link clasp is absolute garbage. It feels cheap and like tin. The bracelet is great, but that clasp is cheap and difficult to open. It's a great watch, but the price should be around $800... not $1300.

In what way is this watch German made? Movement is Swiss/Chinese and the rest produced in Germany? Or is it "assembled in Germany"?
