@@styledbysamvay i was going to say i haven’t been dealing with this but i also don’t take new clients anymore... lmk if you wanna bounce ideas off of me but i have never been happier since not taking new clients
I’ve had a ton of no shows! I thought it was normal because I’m a newer stylist (I got licensed in February) . It’s also has been super slow at my salon here in Upper Michigan lately .
I work reception at a waxing/skincare salon and can also say that there’ve been a lot more no shows since COVID started. It’s ridiculous and we thankfully have since implemented a new cancelation/no show policy. It’s curbed it a little bit, but the amount of people I still end up charging for a no show still pisses me off because it’s really an avoidable situation that these people just willingly put themselves into by just failing at ATTEMPTING to communicate ?? Pure inconsideration. I don’t even really get mad at last minute cancelations because nowadays it’s understandable and life happens, but at the very least let us know and don’t just not respond when we do our jobs which is try to reach out and figure out what’s going on with YOUR appointment.
San this video had me laying in bed laughing!! Love how u make us feel like we are right there with you hanging out. Can’t imagine how discouraging it is to have no call no shows on days u already didn’t feel good /: Question: if there was one hair color u could get rid of completely which would it be?
Omg you had the most chaotic day ever!!! This has been my fav vlogmas video of yours so far lol. Im sorry it was a rough day though, I hope you are feeling better😊 do you have any other creepy/ghost stories?👻
So creepy! Have you guys done any research on the history of your building? I'm so glad you guys feel that its a friendly spirit. Hope you have better days ahead! lol ❤️
That sucks about all of your no-shows, I use to work at a dog grooming place, and we were not allowed to book appointments on Saturdays if it was a new client solely because so many new clients do no shows, and we couldn't afford to have no shows on a Saturday. It was sometimes really difficult for me to book an appointment with a new client because I had first would just lie and say that we're booked for the next four Saturdays, but once in a while they would ask about the 5th Saturday , but my manager was pretty strict about that rule
it’s a very hard situation when clients are inconsiderate. you have the ones who are wonderful and if they mess up they give you an excellent tip. But then you get the ones who no show but you’ve been doing they’re hair for a while. What i say to my clients is: i will wait 5 minutes but if i don’t get a call letting me know if your coming or not i close that appointment and let them know up front my time is detrimental. i CANNOT run late because it messes up my whole day.
I used to also work at a salon, and around the holidays the amount of no shows with clients was insane for just about everyone in the salon. We all had a theory that they were spending too much on holiday gifts or vacations and didn’t want to spend more $$ in the salon
That makes sense! It just sucks because it's really slow this year (when normally this is our busiest season) so when the few clients who are booked don't end up showing, it's extra frustrating. :/
Sam!! I always binge watch your videos and I was specifically on the one “Brunette Balayage and Costemology School Q&A” and the first part you were scared that you heard something - Omg!
I haven’t had issues with no shows lately but it definitely always feels like it comes in waves. A month or so ago for a week straight between no shows and cancellations I was slow and had so many gaps. I try to look at the bright side and take that time to catch up on things which is hard to do when you have bills to pay or could’ve gotten more sleep. People are rude though and they just don’t understand or care.
Girl, I'm a hairstylist and I've had 4 'No shows' since Thanksgiving. 2 were in the same day!!! I dont know what's up, but it's been bad. We dont require a deposit for setting an appointment but our policy is, No second chances(unless an emergency of course.) If someone sets an appointment and doesnt show up then I block them. Also, I used to work in a haunted salon...it's located in a very notable, "haunted" part if town. Google radio would turn on by itself, switch channels and the volume would go up. The lights in our breakroom would turn on and off, especially at night. I wouldn't work alone because it was so scary.
Im older and learned throughout the years it’s all about respect. you can treat them with friendliness but a good friend is way different. Always keep it professional. I had to learn the hard way. I had my feeling crushed many times because i thought they we’re my friends and respected me and all the time we had grown together. It can totally change in a millisecond.
I will freak out too! Do some sage in there and pray... also for the customer no showing up... some salons here in FL charged you with a fee to make the appointment usually $15, if people don't show up the salon keeps it if they do they add it to the total cost of the service. Hope you're feeling better!
Thank you! We do charge a no show fee, but it doesn't stop people unfortunately. Plus, if someone was booked for a 4-5 hour appointment, the fee just isn't enough to make up for all of that lost time, so it's not really a solution. :/
Dude the amount of times I've scheduled a whole day COLOR CORRECTION or a huge appt like hair color, cut, style, lash extensions, waxing.... And they no show - I used to be so passive about it and too afraid to charge a late fee or get a deposit. Nah not anymore I won't be walked over cause my time is worth it. 🤷🏽♀️ I'm a full time student, and work pt as a cosmetologist, and have a pt job at Cosmoprof. Don't fuck with my schedule ✌🏼
Weird tip about nausea… Rubbing alcohol will snap you right out of it. I get nauseous every time I have my blood drawn or an IV inserted. One time before surgery the nurse inserted a needle into my hand and a cotton ball under my nose soaked in rubbing alcohol and it worked like a charm. Now when I feel nauseous or queasy I grab some rubbing alcohol!
Yes girl! I’m a stylist in GA and I have had two clients TODAY....before it’s even noon....who forgot their appointments 🤦🏼♀️ I don’t know how it’s even possible since I sent them confirmation texts yesterday 😑
Girl the alcohol thing is so relatable. I used to be able to go hard and then all of a sudden after one really bad hangover it's like my body created an allergy to alcohol and now I cannot drink anymore like at all. So weird!
I can’t believe how many no shows there have been recently!! So ridiculous and rude sorry you have to deal with that! I mean the least they could do is give you some notice as to why they can’t show up before you waste your time!
In Belgium, hairdressers are closed because of lockdown. So I'm sitting here, with roots as low as my ears, not understanding how someone can just NOT SHOW UP
The last salon I worked at I had a lot of experiences there. Lots of footsteps, bangs, and I heard a growling when nobody was there. Also I was working on a client and in the next room a lid of a glass thing flew across the room and we both looked at each other like 😳! Also one time I was giving my husband a haircut, and he goes is someone walking around in the upstairs? Nobody was there. And the same thing happened when I was working on a coworker and she heard it too!
Sam Vay it was very creepy! Especially when you’re by yourself! I also saw black shadows too hanging out. I think the growling was the creepiest one though out of all of them and the flying object. That place was a hot spot! My husband and I both believe in the spirit realm and my boss at the time did too. So it helped me not to feel like I was completely insane! If you ever get brave enough you would check out the channel xendrius if he’s not taken off yet.
I’ve been getting bookings 3-4 days before, and then they no show or cancel the day before. Also me and my co-renter said no one has been prebooking leading up to Christmas!
you are the bravest 🥺 if i were in the same situation i would've ran out crying like a little puppie 😭this whole situation is really terryifing, i hope you can solve it soon 🙏🏼
Omg I have a couple head manequins and omg it freaks me out when I forget where I have left the head manequin on the stand and then for you to come home after everything that had just happened and get freaked out at home with the head manequin
I used to drink every weekend in my 20s too... shots, beer, cocktails, wine, champagne... and be fine for school or work the next day. Now I can only do one beer or one wine in a day only a couple times a week. I can’t do shots anymore; I immediately get sick. I don’t know how I was able to do multiple back then?! Maybe you can send your footage to some people who specialize in picking out ghostly audio?!
As someone who REALLY needs to get her hair done right now but my stylist is booked af for the next couple weeks, it’s infuriating to see so many of your clients no showing. I can’t even imagine how you feel
Tequila always fucks me up haha doesn't matter if I only have a little. ALWAYS feel like shit after. I've never been able to drink much. Ugh, so frustrating people keep no showing you. That sucks man. Also, about saving money you are 100% right. One big tip is to buy as much as you can in bulk cause small trips to the store really add up
I am shocked that this many people don’t show up or even call to say they can’t come or will be late! I always show up early and when I don’t, I call ahead to tell them I’m running a bit late out of courtesy.. smh manners are dead 2020
In the editing software portion of the vlog, the very next frame after your hand is shown to turn the lights on and before the dryer sound frame, there are some audio waves that are taller than the ones that follow. I could hear someone whispering. It wasn't distinctive but you definitely can hear someone without the dryer sounds
Oh ya I get the same way even drinking a half of a beer lol. After 21 the old body hates any fun lol. Feel better! 😘 Ok I'm not even kidding I got creeped out with the oh it's a puppy voice! Lol. I'm legit looking around making sure there's nothing around me lol!
I'm a hairstylist as well and I've noticed that most of my clients from instagram tend to "shop arround" for hairstylists. And alot of them end up no showing/no calling and it's so annoying and very rude! I feel your pain girl. :(
Spooky stuff today. Bummer about the no show client. What is wrong with people? If I lived nearby I'd love to have you do my hair. Then it wouldn't be yellow/orange lol. Keep up the good work with your videos!
Was someone there earlier than you to start the dryer? I would do some digging on who all has had a business in that salon!!! Would be so cool to see the hairstylists before y’all (if there were)!
I think my boss had stopped in earlier that morning to do the laundry, so that's why the dryer was on. As far as I know, it was a salon once before us and before that it was some type of office. It must have been a home at some point though, because there's a full kitchen in the back.
When you switched the light on in the one room, the first thing I saw was the mannequin-head on the chair and my heart skipped a beat, I swear. I do not do well with ghost stories, a little too wild of an imagination I think. So now you told the haunted salon story, my husband will have to accompany me to the toilet I'm afraid ^^ Though we have a dog as well, and anybody who likes dogs can't be that bad, ghost or real person. NO WAY, another no-show!? So glad you at least put on comfy warm clothes... I have certain colours that make me feel prettier. Bright greens, blues and yellow or gold/rosegold just compliment my hair and skin and I will need less to no makeup to feel good. I really like your Vlogmas-questions, so here are some of mine: 1. What are your thoughts on the Curly Girl Method? 2. If booking with a new stylist, would you recommend only getting a cut first or cut and colour or doesn't it really matter? I have found a stylist I will try getting an appointment with and wonder if I should go all out to see directly if I want to stay with them or test the waters first.
Wooo you and Kendall both posted lengthy videos the same day, thank you so much! I've also been experiencing no shows and ALOT of cancelations. So annoying, this holiday season is definitely different and unpredictable
I have a theory. I know a lot of the furniture in the salon is vintage and used. It’s very possible that there are “spirits” if you will that are attached to some of the pieces that have been brought into the salon. You guys should TOTALLY get a medium in there! I’d love to see how that goes!
You should put up a motion sense camera. That would be very creepy if you see the ghost. I am scared to put a camera in my house because of what I might see.
You need to tell it “ you need to leave, you are no longer welcomed here, go to the light” something along that line. We had very small activities happening in our house that was unexplainable for a couple of years and after getting fed up and us telling it to leave we no longer have anything happening anymore
We all have that same issue. We get old and can’t drink as much as we used to when we were 22 😂 I also tried to come up with excuses like “I can’t drink cheap wine,” but nope. It’s just age haha
From one stylist to another do you guys have a cancellation?? I agree it doesn’t matter though which sucks! Ever since covid I’ve noticed I’ve gotten more cause in NY it’s very strict with salons so sorry that happened to you, I always have a gut feeling too when it happens
For me I can’t mix alcohol, need to have a big dinner, drink a lot of water throughout the night. When I was younger I would have 12-14 drinks weighing only 110 pounds and would throw up for 8 hours the next day. So I had the reverse where I would always over drink and get too hungover. Now that I’m older I finally no longer get as hungover. I avoid hangovers like the plague now.
That is creepy ! I would definitely put cameras - also with the comment your client said about being a friendly ghost this can be true . I had a ghost In my home and got a spiritual healer to come do a cleansing and she told me at times ghost linger into other peoples home, spaces . They don’t mean any harm they are just lost and sometimes need guidance to be led out Your space - perhaps a cleansing will help !
Been there! New clients sometimes are the worst at no showing. It’s unbelievable how inconsiderate people can be. As a stylist we get, things happen. But to not call, no heads up warning. Unacceptable. Also if you can’t afford it, don’t book it to begin with. Harsh but true. As a booth rent stylist, if they don’t show, I don’t get paid. And at the end of the week, I still have to pay my rent. At LEAST give a heads up so we can line someone else up.
Hey Sam! I’m a hairstylist in the Pittsburgh area! I’ve had probably 15-20 people no show me in the past 2-3 weeks! I so feel your pain! I don’t know if it’s because of what’s going on or holidays being quieter this year but you are not alone!
All you have to do is charge them at least half the price if not full price for the service upfront once they have proven to be flaky and prone to call outs. That will either net you some nice easy cash or get rid of the rubbish clientele
I'm a hairdresser that rents a suite and I get it ALL girl! No show, late, constant rescheduling which is still a cancellation. Im over it too. I feel like at times hairstylist don't get taken as serious as other professional fields.
California is shut down right now as of Sunday but in the past two weeks I’ve had like 2 or 3 no shows which is super uncommon for me .. the new salon I’m temporarily renting at doesn’t have a no show policy so I like reach out with a “next time you no show you’ll be charged a 50% fee” and require them book with a credit card now 😂
I own a massage studio in CT and “no call no shows” been happening a lot. I’ve had to buckle down on taking cc at booking because it really sucks when a therapist is traveling get to the studio for no reason. It’s a waste of time and gas. Very inconsiderate, i completely understand. ❤️ love your Vlogs
I worked in a haunted elementary school. One day, Lucy (my class named her), kept knocking on my classroom door. We kept answering the door to no one. The teacher in the classroom next to mine had the same problem that day.
I’m a hairstylist.. right now unfortunately here in California.. I’m in the Central Valley our salon is shut down for 3 weeks.. it’s barley been week one so we might be closed till the new year but I honestly feel like the no shows are happening a lot because of how things with the virus are getting & how it seems to be getting worse.. I understand when I was working clients not feeling comfortable coming to their appointment but at least let your hairstylist know. Love your vlogmas videos💞💞
Thank you! I totally agree. I had someone call to cancel 10 minutes before her appointment the day before Thanksgiving, because she was staying with family for the holiday and they weren't comfortable with her going to a salon. It was definitely annoying, but at least she had the decency to call and let me know. I just don't understand what's so hard about sending a simple message or making a quick phone call... Even if you have to lie to me and tell me you're sick, it's better than just blowing me off altogether lol!
I’ve watched your videos about finding a salon and the multiple salons you have worked at. Do you have any advice for someone who is currently looking for a salon while there are still all these covid restrictions? I finally have my practical test scheduled! Thank you for motivating me 🥰
Yaaaaaassssss Travis!!!! So excited for you! Honestly, I don't even know anything anymore with covid lol. Everything is just so unusual, so I don't even know if places are hiring new stylists now or not. It seems like some people are still as busy as ever and thriving during this time, and then other places are barely staying afloat. I guess my best advice is to do some research and call around and try to find the busier salons if there are any in your area. Worst case scenario, if you have to put working as a stylist on hold, still continue to practice on family and friends until things go back to normal. :/
@@styledbysamvay I totally feel that. I live in a decent sized city and where I went to school is even bigger and about 30 mins away. Between here or there I should be able to find something. I am thinking of starting corporate simply because you get that dollar amount hourly. I did get offered by the manager of a more upscale aveda salon here in town to come in and do models, but I’m not sure of starting out at a place like that which is solely commission. I plan on possibly getting an “essential” job with a temp agency to keep me afloat while I start building clientele part time. Thanks so much for your advice 🥰🥰🥰 I’m so excited to start this next chapter
Oh this was so entertaining! I love your volgmas and admire your dedication to do what you promised but sweetie if you miss a day we will certainly understand. As for your no shows, I just think it might be a combination of lack of manners and these uncertain times we are living in. Annnd, if you do figure out the history of the property where your salon sits let us know! We are all ears🎄
I agree with listening to your body and limiting alcohol. It's not that I think it's so awful to have a drink occasionally but if it's not feeling right you're smart to listen to your inner voice. Im glad you got out of that building btw that's no bueno
Girl I’ve had 12 cancellations / no shows since December 1st so I now make clients for December pay 50% of their appointment 72 hours prior to coming in to guarantee some type of money if they no show me lol
I'm 27 now and drinking is DEFINITELY not what it used to be. I would say around 25 too, my body was like "NOPE". Alcohol gives me HORRIBLE heartburn now. Like it isn't even fun anymore lol

For real! I could never imagine doing that either.
Girl wait till your 38 a wine cooler will put you to sleep lol😂😂✌
Hahaha I can just imagine - I'm almost there now!
Me now at 27 lol
No call no show?! I make people prepay if they do that, IF I even decide to reschedule them after that.
Got no showed this morning! But we’ve had a ton of no shows/rescheduling/just plain slow weeks lately
Ok I'm not even kidding I got creeped out with the oh it's a puppy voice! Lol. I'm legit looking around making sure there's nothing around me lol!
I think I low key heard something when you played back the clip...
I really like your Vlogmas-questions, so here are some of mine:
That's what I was thinking too!!!
You should put up a motion sense camera. That would be very creepy if you see the ghost. I am scared to put a camera in my house because of what I might see.
Good tips Sam on saving money . Love your videos 😍 I am currently into cosmetology school ! & I can’t wait to be done & get a job in something I love
You need to tell it “ you need to leave, you are no longer welcomed here, go to the light” something along that line. We had very small activities happening in our house that was unexplainable for a couple of years and after getting fed up and us telling it to leave we no longer have anything happening anymore
Did you do honors work at Paul Mitchell? Do you think it is actually beneficial after graduation? I’m struggling with whether or not to take it on.
We all have that same issue. We get old and can’t drink as much as we used to when we were 22 😂 I also tried to come up with excuses like “I can’t drink cheap wine,” but nope. It’s just age haha
Hahaha yup that's the conclusion I've come to too!
Do you know the history behind the land or the area that the salon sits on? Because the house itself isn't that old...
I don't :/
I can’t hear anything in the video 😩😩😩 what’s the time stamp if anyone heard a voice???
6:25 if you close you eyes and focus I swear it sounds like a man talking in another room
From one stylist to another do you guys have a cancellation?? I agree it doesn’t matter though which sucks! Ever since covid I’ve noticed I’ve gotten more cause in NY it’s very strict with salons so sorry that happened to you, I always have a gut feeling too when it happens
Lol who’s hand is making a duck next you when you’re showing the audio at 24:25 in the video?
So I HATE being at my salon by myself. Ever since someone told me there’s a ghost in the shampoo room - I feel a weird ass energy in there. Freaky!
It's so weird how our bodies just change like that!
12-14 drinks 😩😩😩😩 when I was younger after four or five I was donezo 🤣
@@AlexiaM yeah I WAAAY overdid it. Had some issues back then that I’ve now overcome thank god 👏🏼
Agreed!!
What clarifying Shampoo do you recommend for at home use & isn’t so expensive?
Paul Mitchell Shampoo Two
I'm a hairstylist as well and thinking about starting vlogging. What camera would recommend for first starting out? Love your videos! ❤❤❤
Red wine does that to me. I skip being drunk or buzzed and go from totally sober to hungover and sick in one glass.
I worked in a haunted elementary school. One day, Lucy (my class named her), kept knocking on my classroom door. We kept answering the door to no one. The teacher in the classroom next to mine had the same problem that day.
Girl when u were in the salon I heard something too 😳👻👻
Be careful the stuff can follow you home ... so scary
it doesn’t matter whether 1 or 10. your time is precious
I agree with no call now shows are noooo excuse! We all have our phones and take one second to say your not showing up! Pisses me off!
@@travisluty7639 you definitely have to keep me updated!
@@styledbysamvay I definitely will! I DM’d you on Instagram
how many clients do you normally take on a busy day / do you still take lash clients?
The ghost made the appointment!!!!
As a fellow stylist I am right there with you! The no shows have been awful lately
Could it have been your Alexa? I saw it was lit up and active when you walked in. She’s scared me to death before.
Omg when you showed the wig in your closet lmao I would of freaked out too... thats so crazy tho about the salon!
