    • How To Remove Rust Fro...
    Metal Rescue® works by utilizing a water-based, safe synthetic molecule that is attracted specifically to iron oxide (i.e. rust). Metal Rescue removes the iron oxide and holds it in solution, leaving the base part and other materials safely unaffected. Rusted parts can be restored in 5 minutes to 24 hours, depending upon the amount of rust, type of metal (iron and steel), and temperature of the solution. Dry Coat™ Rust Preventative is a water-based liquid that dries to the touch leaving a clear protective coating on the surface of ferrous metals. Dry Coat™ does not attract dirt or dust and provides indoor protection for up to one year.
    Please keep these tips in mind when using Metal Rescue® on your painted item. Metal Rescue will not remove or harm the vast majority of paint coatings. However, if there is a layer of rust under the paint some of the paint coating will be lost as Metal Rescue removes the rust. Also, some paints (and inks) may use iron oxide pigments (usually orange or red). Since Metal Rescue has been engineered to remove iron oxide, it may dissolve the pigment in these types of paints. It is always best to test on a small section or hidden area prior to use.

      Here is a challenge for you.
      I have a 1913 S&W Auto that is Frozen with rust. Here is some pics from another one on auction: www.gunbroker.com/item/710566796
      If you look at picture 11, that is where the mainspring and dial safety are housed. its pretty much frozen on mine and its also machine tight tolerances in that area.(hard for liquid to penetrate into)
      Picture 4 shows a tiny flat blade screw directly left of the top of the wooden grip. That is also frozen on mine.

    This may be perfect for removing rust, but if you want to keep the blueing, boil your gun it water for about an hour, and brush of Surface rust with brush, cloth, or degreased steal wool (do not use a wire brush) and your gun will be good as new, just make sure the gun is completely dry. The rust will covert back to blueing, and will save its value. I’d only recommend using rust remover if you want to remove blueing and rust for refinishing, or if you want a gun in the white.

    I just picked up an 1873 Winchester 32 that was in a storage unit for over 30 years. It reminds me of Jimmy Stuarts movie 1873. It looks so cool but with rust and is froze up. Excellent. My primary question was the impact on the bluing. I did order some gel for my wheel hubs and the rust on my trailer hitch frame within the bumper. I suspect this will work great for those projects. But, for a gun, be careful with any chemical you put on it unless you plan to reblue. Of course, I would probably wire wheel the metal and sand until the finish was smooth. Then reblue and have a new looking gun.

    I use vinegar from the $1 store. It takes 4 hours with a piece of steel wool or an SOS pad. Wash all the parts off in water when your done to remove the acid from the vinegar. You still have to file and sand all the pitting when the rust is gone. I make sure to oil my gun down and also wax the metal parts after I re blue it so the rust will never come back. Looks like an old Stevens.

    The gun you’re working on is a New England, Firearms, Harrington and Richardson style shotgun. Now send me my free gallon of rust remover. 😮

    I think u devalue the guns by doing this. It removes the original gluing?! Does it also remove the nickel plating? Most collectors really like to see original finishes. I think there's another better products out there that will dissolve rust not damage the finish.

    • @BlasterProducts
      @BlasterProducts  6 лет назад +3

      You are correct. Metal Rescue will remove oxide coating such as bluing which will devalue some old guns. Please keep that in mind before using Metal Rescue. That's a great point Da Barboza!

      I might use this stuff specifically to remove the old finish from a gun and redo it with duracoat.

    • @ididthisforthecomments.5893
      @ididthisforthecomments.5893 6 лет назад

      Taylor Pinkham you can duracoat over any finish, just wipe all the oil off the surface. it’s actually better to keep bluing under the duracoat so that when it inevitably scrapes of it won’t rust in those spots so fast.

    • @BlasterProducts

      Hi Jody, Metal Rescue is safe on all metals except for magnesium and magnesium alloy. Keep in mind that Metal Rescue will remove oxide coatings like bluing from your gun. Thanks for the question, please let us know if you have any others.

    What about the pitting on the metal surface ? Any solution to that problem

    • @peteloomis8456
      @peteloomis8456 3 года назад +1

      The only thing you can do about the pitting is to get yourself a sanding block & use some 60 grit emery cloth with water & soap to level out the surface start at the 60 then go 80 -120 & so on to smoothen out the scratches ending up with a 600 & finally 800 at the end . I did this on a old 1930s 16 gauge double barrel shotgun I bought years ago that was kept in the trunk of a car a friend had with no case on it & paid 25.00 for it. I got lucky because the bores were in nice shape yet but it had rust issues on the outside of it on the receiver & barrels so I spent a few hours each day sanding until everything looked & felt straight with no pitts or scratches on it . Once I did that I just re blued the receiver & barrel & it looked like new after . I had a friend of mine strip the stocks & stain & seal them as well & it looked like a new gun. I used it for years bird hunting then eventually sold it unfortunately but did sell it for quite a bit more than the price of the gun & materials to restore it but now wish I still had it .
