Metal Rescue® works by utilizing a water-based, safe synthetic molecule that is attracted specifically to iron oxide (i.e. rust). Metal Rescue removes the iron oxide and holds it in solution, leaving the base part and other materials safely unaffected. Rusted parts can be restored in 5 minutes to 24 hours, depending upon the amount of rust, type of metal (iron and steel), and temperature of the solution. Dry Coat™ Rust Preventative is a water-based liquid that dries to the touch leaving a clear protective coating on the surface of ferrous metals. Dry Coat™ does not attract dirt or dust and provides indoor protection for up to one year.
Please keep these tips in mind when using Metal Rescue® on your painted item. Metal Rescue will not remove or harm the vast majority of paint coatings. However, if there is a layer of rust under the paint some of the paint coating will be lost as Metal Rescue removes the rust. Also, some paints (and inks) may use iron oxide pigments (usually orange or red). Since Metal Rescue has been engineered to remove iron oxide, it may dissolve the pigment in these types of paints. It is always best to test on a small section or hidden area prior to use. - Хобби

How long has this stuff been around? I've never heard of it before.
Hi Alvin, Metal Rescue has been around since the early 90's. Pick a jug up and try it out for yourself! Thanks for watching!
Here is a challenge for you.
I have a 1913 S&W Auto that is Frozen with rust. Here is some pics from another one on auction: www.gunbroker.com/item/710566796
If you look at picture 11, that is where the mainspring and dial safety are housed. its pretty much frozen on mine and its also machine tight tolerances in that area.(hard for liquid to penetrate into)
Picture 4 shows a tiny flat blade screw directly left of the top of the wooden grip. That is also frozen on mine.
Metal Rescue Rust Remover Bath from Workshop Hero I cannot find metal rescue in any of the Home Depot stores or AutoZone stores in Houston Texas and I want some
Hi David, can you give us the zip code of the Home Depot and AutoZones you went to. They should both have it on their shelves. Thanks!
This may be perfect for removing rust, but if you want to keep the blueing, boil your gun it water for about an hour, and brush of Surface rust with brush, cloth, or degreased steal wool (do not use a wire brush) and your gun will be good as new, just make sure the gun is completely dry. The rust will covert back to blueing, and will save its value. I’d only recommend using rust remover if you want to remove blueing and rust for refinishing, or if you want a gun in the white.
Boil it in water for about an hour, then use very fine steel wool. Rinse and repeat if necessary. It spares the original bluing
0000 steel wool won't remove the bluing but any other size can
Is that without the rust removal solution? Only water and rusted prts?
@@BrlU only water, boiling the parts and carding the loose oxide off will convert the red rust to an inert black oxide
Thank you for that bit of knowledge friend, I’m gonna try that.
How would you boil a barrel just curious? Just got a top slot iver johnskns 12 gauge I want to clean up
I've just inherited an old H&R here in England, they get about! No rust, a little bit of black pitting, shoots beautifully.
i use white vinegar myself and it works very good and it just cost $2.50 a gallon i use t on tools all the time with great results.
I just picked up an 1873 Winchester 32 that was in a storage unit for over 30 years. It reminds me of Jimmy Stuarts movie 1873. It looks so cool but with rust and is froze up. The stocks are perfect. He had it sitting against the wall in the unit. Everyone thinks I can bring it back to pretty good shape, I will have to try this in my Blacksmith/workshop. maybe I will film it.
How is it now
Nice I have one of these guns my grandpa just gave me was wondering how to do this.
That's crazy! I was looking how to remove rust from my grandfather's old rifle. And he is cleaning is the same one as my grandfather's.
Holy crap! Why haven’t I ever heard of this stuff?! I have to get some.
Hi Midwest Bodybuilding, pick some up at your local Home Depot or AutoZone. Or order directly through us! www.workshophero.com/store Thanks for watching!
Excellent. My primary question was the impact on the bluing. I did order some gel for my wheel hubs and the rust on my trailer hitch frame within the bumper. I suspect this will work great for those projects. But, for a gun, be careful with any chemical you put on it unless you plan to reblue. Of course, I would probably wire wheel the metal and sand until the finish was smooth. Then reblue and have a new looking gun.
Bluing is a form of rust -- this stripped it all.
We find treasure like this all the time!!! We use acid on rust. Great educational video.
How does this effect trying to finish the metal parts, say with quick blue or cerrocote?
I just looked at my Dad's gun as I recognized it. That is a Champion, Iver Johnson's Arms & Cycle works. Dad's is a 12 gauge. He has passed on, but used this in upstate New York at his home.
Awsome video!! Definitely going to be looking into that stuff!
Amie Leger Thank You! Please let us know if you have any questions!
How does it penetrate screwed in parts? I found a Winchester Model 69A .22lr that got absolutely fondled by the rust gods, the magazine tube withstood a lot of PB blaster amd WD40, impacts and tool assisted twisting.
That is super easy and safe
That looks like an Iver Johnson Champion.
Looks like my "the sportsman" by Cleveland 12ga
yeah the gun guys use them in your video is an old h&r 12 gauge shotgun on many of them as a kid that stuff is awesome really like The Prado
Iver Johnson Champion. I am cleaning one now. Fore grip trashed, filled with plastic putty. Putting in dowels.
That shotgun is an H&R "Topper" model 12 gauge i used to own one. Year that it is, i have no idea.
H&R 12 gauge. I got to get me some of this stuff is it sold at o Reilly's as well?
Hi Thomas, Metal Rescue Rust Remover Bath is only sold at Home Depot and AutoZone. Not at O'Reilly's. Thanks for the comment, stay tuned for the announcement of the winner.
well I got my metal rescue but I can't find that rycote that y'all mentioned in this video I need to bottle of dry coat or I can spray can of dry coat where can I get it at. Home Depot don't have it
That’s a “Topper” 12 Gauge made by H&R Harrington &Richardson in Drummondville Quebec. Thanks Johnny 🤠
Looks like an old Cooey 12 guage, my dad has one that I've been coveting for 50 years.
Is it a Harrington & Richardson model 1900 12 Ga.?
After seeing the butt plate, I agree.
This is good stuff, I will try to clean my STEVEN'S DOUBLE OUT SIDE HAMMER 12G. THANKS FOR THE VIDEO
You're welcome! Let us know if you have any questions!
It will take the blueing right off your gun. Bad idea.
Awesome looks like a Steven savage 20 gage
so does the stuff really work or is everyone fascinated by the gun
Last year we had a house fire but my dad got the contract to knock it down and clean it all up so we got to go through the house to find anything good and we took all the tools and guns out of there. The guns will never be good to fire but we still took them but I got to restore everything and this product does work but vinegar works just as good if not better and is way cheaper but it does have a strong smell that will stick to clothing
The H&R logo on the butt have it away. And you even panned on it for a couple seconds
Is it still ok to blue gun if you used dry coat or would you run into problems when you are going to blue the gun?
this will work great for ak parts kits
I need that in my life lol I have a really stubborn 1920 savage model 520 riot gun im trying to restore
Dont restore it those savage riot shotguns are the rarest of ww2 military shotguns

i want to know that too
Winchester Sure Shot break barrel 12 gauge (2 3/4") shell. My dad had one I hunted with and now my nephew uses it.
Nope. Wrong. Waaaay off!
Can it be used in an Ultrasonic Cleaner for possibly better resutls?
Iver johnson single barrel single shot 12 or 20 gauge
12 gauge
Definitely a Harrington & Richardson Arms Shot gun. I’m literally researching how to remove rust from my H&R .410-44 cal shot gun.
4years too late for the contest but still.
Right, i wanted to remove some rust from my great granpas m48 topper lol
Does this rust solvent remove the case hardening too? Does anything else remove rust but leave case hardening?
Never seen rusty wood buy I'll watch
What will it do to a chrome lined bore?
Hi, Metal Rescue is safe on chrome. It designed to only remove rust! Thanks for the question, please let us know if you have any others.
It is a Harrington & Richards 12 ga single shot break action shotgun.
I have a mod. D.D. 45 . It's know as the judge shot 64mm 410 or 45 .. it is a priceless gun to me my brother gave it to me and it is rusting somehow . So my question is . Is it ok not to take it apart before I soak it in the rust remover... Thanks
Early model Stevens 12 gauge single shot break open. It has the milled wedge on the right hand side to take the barrel off it doesn't have the screw to release the barrel I'm doing one right now.
pallmeto arms co. 12 gauge i have the same gun single barrel
That looks like a H&R Model 1908 Single Barrel Shotgun. Am I right?
Hi Ryan, Congratulations! You are the first person to get the answer correct! Please email us at info@workshophero.com to claim your Free gallon of Metal Rescue Rust Remover Bath! Thanks for watching!
I knew it too I have one needing rust removal too and my buddy showed me a link to your product..mine is a 10 guage H&R..

wow really? That is exactly the same gun as my Iver Johnson Champion.
Do you guys make any products like this that will remove light amounts of surface rust from a parkerized finish without removing the park brass finish, lol?
In the process you also removed the bluing. Similar to vinegar use.
Effectively destroying the value and protective finish.
This is actually a Glock model 1871 shotgun forged from leftover Excalibur metal shavings...Damn! How are there so many random answers on here yet everyone is sooo convincing😂 I'll read one answer like "hmmm maybe" then the next seems correct. Idk wtf it is but I have a few my father in-law left in our shop. If anyone is interested let me know

Seems just about every subject have the same situation. Sop many conflicting answers and they all sound convincing.
I have the same shotgun its a bridge.
ingl wud i have a new port like it that was my Great grand dads from early 1900/late 1800's i cant find much on single barrel newport 12g.i know they were not costly.but it was my great grandpa's
Its a hard gun to tell since there are like 50 guns that look like that
Is it safe to use on a chrome lined barrel?
Thanks
I'd say that you have a Stevens shotgun.
Looks like a j stevens arms or one of the other ten companies they worked under lol
I use that stuff on skin tags..
Works well...
can this product be used in an ultrasonic cleaner? would that speed up the process?
Looks like an 12Ga Eastern Arms / Single shot. Working on almost the same model.
Why on earth would you want to put something on your gun to remove rust that will remove the bluing? There has got be another way.
That is a Harrington and Richardson. I have a rusty one that looks exactly like it
Could it be a Hopkins & Allen?
It is a Harrington Richards shotgun
Looks like an old Ivory Johnson 12gage long tom
I use vinegar from the $1 store. It takes 4 hours with a piece of steel wool or an SOS pad. Wash all the parts off in water when your done to remove the acid from the vinegar. You still have to file and sand all the pitting when the rust is gone. I make sure to oil my gun down and also wax the metal parts after I re blue it so the rust will never come back. Looks like an old Stevens.
Did the vinegar remove the bluing??
@@uplift56 yes, everything that removes rust, will remove bluening. Bluening is simply transformed rust. Vinegar is no exception. One of the safe ways of deaing with rust is to boil the part. This will transform the rust to bluening. Use a very fine steel wool to carefully brush of the loose stuff after boiling. Then let it soak in oil.
@@sidekickbob7227 what type of oil? Husband got me a used lc9 that I kept in zippered pouch it came in. Never used it. Went to clean it & found it full of dust bunnies & half rusted. Trying to find best oil to put on it, to help keep it rust free. Thanx

Hey that looks like my uncles H&R 10g that I'm trying to fix from rust and other problems thx for the video bro.
Similar to my H&R 12g except mine does not have that style thumb break. I knew New England Arms had that style.
It's probably worth mentioning that some gun finishes are very similar to rust, so the will probably un-blue your old gun as well as removing rust
Hi Vincent, you are exactly right. Metal Rescue will remove oxide coatings such as bluing. Please test a small area first before submerging your entire gun in Metal Rescue if you are unsure.
He did mentioned it you don't listen
H&R, Harrington & Richardson. 1908 Shot gun, it's was my first shotgun. Good information and seems like a good product for as a rust cleaner. Tho rust cleaner ain't needed, As mine is already very well kept, The one you cleaning seems like someone was going fishing with the shotgun lol
Looking to use this on a really beat up and neglected Enfield No.4 Mk.1. If I plan on bluing it, I shouldn’t spray it with the rust preventative, correct?
Keep in mind that Dry Coat is a temporary rust preventative. It will wash off with soap and water but will protect it from the rust coming back for a year. You could spray it with Dry Coat, and before the bluing process, you could wash it off if it's going to sit for awhile. Thanks for watching, please let us know if you have any other questions.
1968 acquired. IvernJohnson 12 GA brake .could this be?
Definitely a H&R Model 1908 Single Barrel Shotgun.
It's a Steve model 1928-1929 12 gauge single shot
very good work congratulation!!! I have one same shotgun but I don not know the brand. I see your video and looks same, how can I found the brand?
Thanks! You can go here to purchase it online or in Home Depot or AutoZone in US. www.workshophero.com/buy/ Please let us know if you have any questions!
H&R Topper Model 48 is my guess. I have a Topper model 88 which has the thumb push down release instead of the side push. Very similar parts with my 88 otherwise
I have the H&R Topper Model 158
I have a gun like this that belonged to my great great grandfather. Thankfully mine is in a lot better condition 😀
Same! Just got it from my father. It’s in good shape but rusty
H&R before the topper came along
i say it's an Eastern Arms 12 Ga. got one like it but no rust just a broken stock.
Wards Hercules. Had one just like it as a kid.
That's a Champion 12ga made by Iver & Johnson Arms
correct
nope
Hirington richardson single shot break open 12g shotgun ! Or a clone !
I agree with you
Hello, Is the dry coat needed after submerging? Thanks!
I feel like you could just go straight to bluing the rifle after you’ve dried it off, the dry coat may be for people who don’t want to go through the bluing process
Hello
I think this shotgun is an old Crescent Arms Co. 12 guage.
Thanks
Glock with extended clipazines
Removes bluing? 😐
Hi Chris, yes it does, so keep that in mind when using Metal Rescue Rust Remover Bath. Thanks for the question, please let us know if you have any others!
buy a bluing kit or spray paint it.
Bluing is a type of controlled rusting.
I might use this stuff specifically to remove the old finish from a gun and redo it with duracoat.
Taylor Pinkham you can duracoat over any finish, just wipe all the oil off the surface. it’s actually better to keep bluing under the duracoat so that when it inevitably scrapes of it won’t rust in those spots so fast.
Hi, I was wondering would metal rescue hurt the rifling in a rifled barrel?
Hi Jody, Metal Rescue is safe on all metals except for magnesium and magnesium alloy. Keep in mind that Metal Rescue will remove oxide coatings like bluing from your gun. Thanks for the question, please let us know if you have any others.
Nitro Hunter, 12 ga, single shot, manufactured by one of three manufacturers (two in Connecticut and one in Massachusetts) and wholesaled to Belknap Hardware and Mfg. Company between the late 1800's to roughly the 1930's. Original cost was between $15 and $25.
looka like an H&R. probaly 12 guage
I think u devalue the guns by doing this. It removes the original gluing?! Does it also remove the nickel plating? Most collectors really like to see original finishes. I think there's another better products out there that will dissolve rust not damage the finish.
You are correct. Metal Rescue will remove oxide coating such as bluing which will devalue some old guns. Please keep that in mind before using Metal Rescue. That's a great point Da Barboza!
test it out!
Hello all, after doing this and removing the paint coat. will bluing restore the colour of the gun?
I guessed before seeing the butt plate what a dead give away
Would you recommend this method for an old Lee Enfield No4 mk1
Hi Captain, Metal Rescue is safe to use on all metals except for magnesium or magnesium alloy. Other than that, it's safe on everything except rust including wood, brass, aluminum, plastic, and to the touch!
Thanks for the comment, please let us know if you have any other questions!
Its a 1934 20 gauge springfield single shot right???
Can't tell for sure. It looks like the gun I had when I was a kid. Made by Diamond Arms Company.
I have a Stevens "backpack gun" interchangable barrel rifle. I only have 20 guage barrel currently. I also have a savage with 2 interchangable barrels 410 & 20 guage.
