The "Steeler Way" and the Steeler Culture is Dead | The Standard is the Standard...

  • For years, legends and players, past and present, have spoken out about the lack of the Steeler Culture in the locker room and how the Steelers have stepped away from it. Most recently, Minkah Fitzpatrick called out his teammates for thinking they're entitled to wins because they wear the black and gold and Ben Roethlisberger on his podcast thinks the tradition of the Steelers is done. Both are correct! The Steeler Way and the Steeler Culture is DEAD! This is now the Standard of the Pittsburgh Steelers. You can thank Mike Tomlin and ownership for erasing that from the Steelers' illustrious reputation.

    At least 6 players on the defense are about the Steelers way: Watt, Minkah, Highsmith, Patrick P, Cam and Joey.
    On the offense, I don’t think you can watch Najee and Warren and think they don’t get it. I think Friermuth may get it. It’s not enough.
    Tomlin gets it. Tomlin is the culture.

    This season honestly made me lose all respect for Mike Tomlin. He has a track record of winning, but his record is a facade that hides the fact his teams in recent years haven't really been all that great. The amount of times Tomlin has relied on defense to be the difference between winning and losing by not hiring an adequate offensive coordinator that allows the offense to maximize its strengths is laughable. He knew Randy Fichner and Matt Canada were inadequate nfl coaches, and he chose to attempt to hide that by relying on TJ Watt, Alex Highsmith, and Minkah Fitzpatrick to carry the team on defense. The players can only do what they are told on offense and each and every one of them are angry about the entire situation in one way or another. It's only a matter of time before it gets completely out of control, and the Steelers are no longer a relevant team in the nfl. The Steelers are declining, not inclining. A new coach will cause an initial decline, but the incline to success in the future will be worth the wait instead of trying to compete with an outdated team philosophy that has yielded no playoff victories in nearly 7 years.

      Perfectly said. Also, look how Butler and Haley were pushed out for giving Tomlin pushback for being such an ego maniac about controlling everything. Butler even came out and said in an interview that Tomlin made it difficult for him to run the defense. Fitchner (not that great), but got pushed out because Tomlin wanted Canada in there. If you watch Tomlin's press conference about Canada being fired, you could see in Tomlin's reaction that it was like a kid that got in trouble for doing something wrong. We all know the decision came from higher-ups. His whole speech was written by a damn good P.R. rep.

    • @Hiddenshadow76
      @Hiddenshadow76 6 месяцев назад +1

      @@MrRstJR The Steelers should have not fired Haley but I think the reason they did that is he was too hard on Ben and caused problems off the field with his bar fight he had. Fichner, Canada, and Butler on the other hand were just poor hires that Mike Tomlin at this point seems to have used them as scapegoats for his own inability to do anything more then do the bare minimum to not get fired season after season. It's likely Tomlin is also currently using Teryl Austin and Eddie Faulkner as his scapegoats as well. It's pretty obvious what's going on. Tomlin is riding on some of his superstar defensive players and his runningbacks to attempt to bail out his inability to devise a good nfl gameplan. Honestly, if they keep Tomlin after this year, expect a 6-11 or 5-12 season next year. The schedule they got next year will do them absolutely no favors whatsoever. After that year, Tomlin will most assuredly be let go at that point if not after this season.

    It's good to finally see people coming around about Tomlin and his lack of coaching abilities. Culture has been deteriorating slowly every year since our last Super Bowl appearance and now has become evident. Tomlin might be a great guy in the locker room but his lack of preparation and inability to instill discipline has been the reason that a mediocre season is looked upon as a success to most people until now. Fire Tomlin and bring in someone who's not afraid to instill Steelers culture.

    • @dionellwalker9762
      @dionellwalker9762 6 месяцев назад +1

      I have to defend Tomlin even though he falls short in challenging calls but the culture is passed down from player to player,the culture is not established and continued through the head coach. A issue that I have with Tomlin is him allowing Austin to turn a perennial pro bowler like Minka Fitzpatrick into just a regular Joe as Minka has not one SPLASH play this season,but they continue to play Kazee in Minkas position and as the last game the Steelers played is a great example of his limitations when he gave up the touchdown pass to the Patriots TE, it's clear by the tape that Kazee doesn't have the range and instincts of Minka but he's allowed to defend the back end as the last line of defense. Austin is clearly stubborn or he's over his head as a DC. Teams and quaterbacks do not fear throwing at Kazee but teams and quarterbacks are aware of Minkas presence in the back end and know that he will make you pay if you slip up. Austin has the highest paid defense in the league and doesn't know how to use his personal. He drops TJ and Highsmith into pass coverage as if he's trying to trick offenses into making a mistake instead of forcing them to make mistakes by just lining up and challenging his players to win their assignments. I find fault in Tomlin with the assistants that he promotes,when you have the smallest coaching staff in the league you have to employ the best because alot of responsibilities are put on a few and when that few fall short in fulfilling their duties it shows in the preparation. Tomlin looses challenges more than he wins them because the Steelers don't delegate looking at plays to a particular coach to advise Tomlin, reason being the staff being small. If and when Tomlin is removed will his replacement insist on employing a full coaching staff to give this franchise the best chance at succeeding

You come from a successful team to what is supposed to be one of the most storied and successful franchises in the NFL, only to be underutilized. The dude is hungry. He has (no pun intended) The Eye Of The Tiger. Something many of the players on this team lacks. I think Minkah's comments were focused more towards F.A. veterans brought in to play but are just there collecting a paycheck.

    Long time Steeler fan. Unfortunately I not Excited on Sunday anymore for the game. Steeler football is not syeeler football anymore. Before you were excited to wacth the game because of past player giving their all in a game . I will always be a big fan of the team. Even got my grandson to be a steeler fan . Sometime I go back and wacth clips of the old games.

      You sound DUMB and I'm not going to be cordial addressing you because the most important position on the team is being led by a pedestrian quaterback that can't consistently throw for a meager two hundred yards a game or throw two touchdown passes in a game and his backup is a interception throwing machine and you make the stupidest comment I've ever read on RUclips to date by saying that Tomlin has the most talent. I would bet my life that Mitch throws to passes at least that should be ints this weekend and it just depends if the Colts defenders catch the ball because the ball will hit their hands and should be picks and this estimate is something I gather from the tape and it perplexes me that Tomlin doesn't have it because if he had seen it he wouldn't be starting Mitch and Mitch hasn't played a good game in a few seasons so why play him

    Last year I think it was
    Down 38-3 against the Bills and guys were laughing and joking on the sidelines
    Diontae acts like a total douchebag and what does Dumblin do
    He rewards him with more targets against the Cardinals and goes to him with the season on the line against the Patriots
    That’s clever give a spoilt child more leeway
    That’ll work

    Personally I believe since Lev Bell left was the beginning of losing touch with the Steeler identity. Shortly after the oline went shortly after that AB left, then the icing on the cake BB left. Munchak left, they went through a string of OCs and never recovered. This didn’t happen overnight. Good thing is if it is gone it can be recovered. Why? Because the Ravens and Browns acquired that same identity. And the Ravens refuse to let it go.

      Well people want to get paid what they’re worth, and nothing is wrong with that! Look at the running back situation in the NFL. The owners got together and decided they weren’t going to pay running backs top dollar for savings or whatever and they make billions and the cap is also the problem. I was also just identifying a timeline as well.

    The Steelers went twenty years between the glory of the seventies to another Superbowl, and several more years before they won another one. Look how many QBs they went through between Bradshaw and Big Ben! Winning at a high level in the NFL is hard. The stars have to align. There are 31 other teams trying to stop you every year. This isn't unique to the Steelers. Very good players go their entire careers without a ring. Look how many frustrating seasons even the best teams and coaches have had! Green Bay, one of the most storied franchises in the game! Hall of Fame QB for years. Look how long it's been since they have won a Superbowl. I am a lifelong Steeler fan, but Steeler fans need to stop feeling entitled. We will win again when all the pieces come together.

      Connor would get murdered with a center like Mason Cole blocking for him. Connor was a solid runningback and I respect his work ethic on the field but the guy was as injury prone as Kenny Pickett. I'd take a Najee Harris and Jaylen Warren combination any day over the James Connor and Jaylen Samuels duo back 4 years ago. Keep in my mind Harris and Warren are basically most of the Steelers offense because George Pickens practically carries the entire receiving core on offense.

      @@levidiaz3074 Fair enough about Connor being a leader I agree there and Dobbs was never given a shot and he could have been a leader on this team as well. But I feel like giving Mason Rudolph the longest tenured offensive player on the Steelers a shot at backing up Pickett could potentially breed new life into the offense. Mainly because most of the current Steelers players on offense haven't played much with Rudolph specifically except Diontae Johnson and Pat Freiermuth and Najee has only seen a little of Rudolph. I just feel like Mason at this point in his career needs one more opportunity to prove himself and maybe bring some veteran leadership to this young and frustrated offense. I have seen Rudolph complete some nice deep passes before that I just don't see Pickett and Trubisky doing and although I don't see Rudolph as a starter quarterback personally, I think he brings more leadership than the other quarterbacks on the roster and I think that's something they should at least try even if it fails.
