This is the first cornhole build that actually made me want to build one. The ending was well shot and lots of fun.
Same here. I want to build some right now.

This is a valuable addition to my woodwork collection ruclips.net/user/postUgkxbnOKZBE4evMO5V2vroHeCjq6d_MV6wJO I still will rate this woodwork plan as the best in my reference library. It always seem to stand out from the rest whenever you go through the library. This is a masterpiece.
As a guy that used to work at Lowe's, don't buy the precut ply wood unless you have to. Two precut 2*4 sheets costs as much as a whole sheet. It's literally twice as much. Can even ask them to cut it for you at the store. And cool project turned out nice! And thank you for your service 🇺🇲
I’ve heard people say they don’t cut the wood right? Can you confirm
@@_Ranger01_ You have to watch them do it. Sometimes it's just a guy whose task is to cut a bunch of 4x8 sheets down to 4x4 - by the way the saw kerf removes at least 1/8" so it's not a true 4x4 once they cut it - but the dude isn't always perfect. It just depends on how bad you really accuracy. If you buy the full sheet and watch them cut it you can be your own quality control.
Awesome set of corn hole boards! Love the dramatic cinematic ending between you and Utz! Best Corn hole video on RUclips so far! I've made a few and used the kreg jig for the pocket holes on the frame, I found that works really well and you can dismember them if you ever need to!
Great video!! Awesome job!!! My head is spinning with ideas for Plywood, LED Strips and Resin.
Very nice. You should make a video on how you wired the led’s up and how you used a remote to turn them on.
Agreed
lol
That would be a great help
I am getting ready to build some cornhole boards from a buddy and this is what I needed to see. thank you for sharing. Love the pup and they always end up being the champ.
That's a sweet idea w/ the LEDs - many a night we've had cornhole tournaments, but it's super hard when there isn't much light! Hilarious video too.
Just amazing 👏🏻. There's a few corn hole diy's out there but by far this one's the best!! Love!!
Thanks Janie! That means a lot!
This is a great tutorial! I've made 2 sets of these now, learning a bunch each time. Here's what I learned the hard way! I routed my channels for the led's to be 1 inch wide for looks, and 1/2 inch deep. On 2 boards, I used a solid gallon of epoxy. On the second set, I kept my channels at 1/2 wide by 1/2 inch deep and cut my epoxy use in half. To secure my side boards, I used hot glue instead of silicone and screws, and this worked out fine - no screw holes to fill later. I also used hot glue to secure the led strip lights instead of super glue, and the hot glue let go in a couple of spots after the epoxy was poured. The strips turned sideways in a few spots, but still looks ok, and was only a problem in 1 of 4 boards. More hot glue would've helped. Standard 1 gallon windshield washer jugs also work to seal the center hole, but remove the labels. I overlooked this and was left with the paper label stuck to the inside of 2 holes. Removing the excess epoxy overflow with sandpaper is tiresome. A cheap oscillating multi-tool with a flex scraper works great for the high spots and a hand plane gets the rest before finally sanding it smooth. I didn't have the white pearlescence to die my epoxy, so I sanded the top with 220 grit and this gave a cool "hazy" look and hides the details of the led strips without sacrificing too much light. Finally, after routing the led channels, I used wood glue and a 15 gauge nail gun to build the frame and secure the top. Screws worked great too, but the nails leave a much smaller hole to fill when done and are much faster than drilling, countersinking, and driving screws a couple dozen times. I hope this helps someone else on this adventure!
This video doesn’t say how thick the plywood was. I’m assuming since you did 1/2 depth for the lights you bought 3/4 inch ply ?
@@salvadorgonzalez1448 yeah, 3/4 plywood
How do I make the epoxy
Thanks for these lessons learned. Could you have gotten away with quarter inch deep channels for the LEDs?
@@leafinitup1 it'll work, but having the led strip so close to the surface wouldn't look as good in my opinion.
In my humble opinion the best plans. Just bought them, I have to build 3 sets for a charity auction at my sons school, thank you so much
Love it! Outside the box creative projects is what sets you apart on this platform. I always leave these videos inspired. Nice work sir!
You know a video is well done when you watch it a second time months later for the hell of it.
Sweet job. The battle for corn hole superiority was epic. Utz has a flawless technique. Well done 👍🏼
I love your content. I always feel like I can run right out and build whatever you just made a video on, and that's a nice feeling for a new woodworker. Keep up the great work!
Premium level! This is way beyond next level. Epoxy LED is amazing!!
Awesome video! These things look super awesome and have a very finished look to them! A quick suggestion, if you ever want to make more, try out the led strips they have for backlighting a TV. They have a USB plug and you can then use a portable phone charger to power them. Keep up the great job! 👍🤘
I've thought about adding some LEDs to a cornhole board and I think you nailed it!!! I might be borrowing an idea or two from you. Good job and keep up the great work!!!
Ok so I thought I was going above & beyond with the set of cornhole boards I'm building but that set with the embedded lights . . . hats off, great idea.
Great job on the boards as well as the video. I also use the Kreg jig for assembling the frame, but rather than screws I use an air nailer and glue for the top. Thanks for sharing your video.
Just found your channel. What an awesome project. Love the game with the dog.LOL
A couple years ago I made some mini golfing platforms for my son to use that have an led strip hooked up to an arduino and a sensor in the hole. When you get the ball in the hole it lights a pattern on the strip and plays a little melody. I've had trouble keeping the led strip attached to the platform, but your design makes me want to try this again using epoxy instead of just glue. Thanks.
Nicely done, informative, quick, simple, no boring overkill and entertaining! I also appreciate Lowe's Veteran discount.
I love cornhole. And have an LED lights in them as such an awesome idea. Great job and a great video. Thanks a bunch.
I dig the LEDs, and that ending was epic! I was going to unsub if Utz didn't win, glad he didn't disappoint.
Utz doesn’t mess around. I should have known
Utz doesn’t mess around. I should have known better
Utz don’t mess around...
@@ThirdCoastCraftsman can I just glue and nail two plywoods together then use the router to rout for the leds or does it meet to be this way for it to work?
Awesome video and build!! Very nice videography, as well! Utz, you rule!
Thanks so much and yes Utz rules!
That is the most awesome corn hole board I have ever seen. We play a lot of corn hole and that would be so cool in our backyard. We have a lot of solar decor in our backyard. Fantastic job. Thanks so much for sharing.
OMG. I wanna make some boards for my hubby as a belated Father's day gift and now I wanna do this! Never done half the stuff in this video, but I don't even care! I wanna do it!
Duuuuude lolol that was hilarious at the end 😂🤣😂🤣
That was a great video and funnier than hell with the dog! That was hilarious and good content!
Thank you for your service! Awesome cornhole boards and idea, with great craftsmanship! Keep doing what you do brother!
From a guy that has made almost 50 sets of cornhole boards himself these are awesome.
Those inlayed LEDS are an awesome idea! Great job man. Thanks for sharing
You have quite considerable cornhole experience!
Dude, I just found your channel and subscribed after 2 minutes of this video! Your LED Cornhole is just brilliant. Very entertaining, well edited and a little bit of humor! Nice work, and thanks for sharing.
Thanks so much man!
Thanks so much man!
I agree 100%. I hope mine turn out as good as yours.
Pro Tip:
Install a hinged, drop down ramp under the hole so the bean bags slide to the back and are easy to retrieve.
Cause it's hard to reach in a hole.
Just messing with you. Good tip.
Really like the LED idea! Makes me want to build some cornhole boards again!
Dude the entertainment value to this video was worth watching a few times. Thanks for posting it. Keep up the good work. When us guys play the winner always gets something for the effort. I'm thinking you need to hook your little friend up with a treat. ;)
I spy a scout in the background hell yea !!
How did you string the led lights to the underside and power them so that they are hidden
This was so cool. I learned so much from 1 video and think I could actually do this. Thank you for the time you put into putting this together for us.
A great build and video. The leds and expo y finish looks superb. I loved the cornhole match at the end too. 👍😎🇦🇺
That dog is a ringer.. Winner winner get the dog a chicken dinner. Btw.. super job on your cornhole boxes
Love the boards! it inspired me to make my own and I am currently in the middle of my build. I have a couple questions; How many feet of LED lighting did both boards require? Also, when you used the 6" plastic vinegar bottle to contain the resin for the center hole did you use silicon to create a seal and if so, was the silicon easy to remove from the resin after curing and hardening? Thanks!
Just played corn hole for the first time last weekend. I was thinking I needed to make set for the family to use. This video will likely get me to go out and make it this weekend. Oh, and I play about as well as you did during the day. :)
Best cornhole build video! Amazing job Chris!
The edit from the dog throwing the bags was amazing 😂
Awesome Build ! LOVIT !
What was the ratio of pearlescent per Oz of Epoxy ? I want to build one for Xmas present and have the Epoxy coming just need to know approximately how much Epoxy you used and grams of pearlescent !
Thx’s Again ! LOVIT Well Done !
thank you so much for this amazing video! I will definitely be making my own now! this video was very clean, great explanations and made it seem very simple (like is should be unlike other videos I watched) 👍👍
AWESOME build!!! I LOVED both set of boards...BUT Those MSU ones are AMAZING!!!! Looks like Basketball court very well done!! GO GREEN!!! I'll have to make a set like that, thanks for the inspiration.
doggone .... Got your butt beat.
Add a arduino and a trip sensor ..... make the led's blink when ya get one in.
Why stop there? Why not connect it to a refrigerator that gives you a new beer when you make one ;)
Howdy, watched the video, do you have a link you could share to show how to power/wire up the LED strips with a trip sensor and arduino that you mentioned? Sounds like that would be an awesome tweak to this setup. Thanks.
well. Nevermind, the Googler had some RUclipss on it ;)
Thats funny
You sir, just upped this idea for me seriously. My girlfriend loves cornhole and I may do this. I might add a bounce trip as well. I'll have to think on this.
Great vid.. although, i was really looking forward to seeing how you gave the LEDs electricity. Assumed that you wouldn't have a cord accross your lawn. That whole thing is still a mystery since it wasn't included :/
If you look at 8:47 you can see the power converter plugged into the lights. This is a type of lights that requires it to be plugged into an outlet. You can however buy battery powered ones as well.
If you buy 12volt led strips, you can buy 12v battery packs that use AA batteries on amazon or ebay that have a 2.1mm power end, and this is a perfect fit for the led controller. If you haven't used led strip lights before, the 12v lights come with a 12v adapter that plugs into the wall. The battery pack will replace this.
Use 11.1 lithium battery. Perfect for light emitting diodes. Power of lithium and long lasting
Amazing job and a great LED idea on the boards. Also, great job on the vid. Clear and concise without too much info. Saving this vid for sure.
Amazing build! So cool to see how you made a nice simple version and a way more badass version too...and that ending though!
You should do something like this again with the LEDs but have a arduino or raspberry pi connected with a motion sensor that makes it light up if you get the bag in the hole.
I'm going to have to do that lol
You could also possible add a scoreboard as well with a pressure sensitive plate or something like that but it would probably get a bit complicated since you’d have to figure out how to get around registered shots that hit the board but didn’t stay on
@@maxwellstephens140 time delay pressure sensitivity.
Unless I missed it. You may want to add how you wired your LEDs and power source. But was a awesome video
A very key point.
@@bookooc5605 so how are the led's powered? 9Volt underneath?

@@willp942 thank you. This helps alot
That is completely awesome. Thanks for posting that. More importantly, thank you for your service, sir.
Nice craftsmanship. What a touch from your pup.
Love this idea. I play a lot of cornhole with my family over the summer. Just wondering, how do you power the LEDs??
Most of these LED strips run on 12v.
Battery powered...the lights I order from Amazon take 3 AA batteries
Red Earth Resources do you have a link to that?
Christian Rodriguez yes sir, I’ll post it ASAP
Third Coast Likes to Make Stuff? Got a little Clagett feel to this video. Great video though. No way my pointer would ever sit still for bags being thrown near him. Good boy, Utz.
Haha. Bob does a great job so I’m
Happy to hear I’m sounding like him
@@ThirdCoastCraftsman 100 percent a compliment.
Third Coast Craftsman do you have a list of supplies for the Epoxy how much and brand? I have never used it before?
Great build Chris! The juxtaposition of the LEDs and the hand plane was awesome, haha. The camera work and story at the end was really fun! Thanks for the great build, and way to go getting Lowes as a sponsor!
Great job! I loved your instructions and the competition between your dog and yourself was classic.
Those 4'x2' pieces of plywood often cost twice what you'd pay for a sheet. Buy a sheet and most stores will make simple cuts for you. Worst case is they whack you like $.50/cut. You'll spend half as much and have a 4'x4' piece of plywood left over.
can you buy them from homedepot and will they make the cuts for you?
Verzula HD does cut wood like Lowe’s does
Great job! But how did you run your power source? I would like to know
yes im wondering how he powered the leds as well
Amazing man! Thank you so much! Just finished my own led boards, they’re perfect! Only diff is I used a rechargeable usb pack to power the leds, totally wireless now! Thanks so much for the great idea!
Do you have a link to these leds? I would love to make one completely wireless
Fun. Cinematography on the ending was great. Glad you played the game, as this Brit had no idea what a cornhole was!
I wish you would have covered how you powered the LED strips. Is it battery powered or plugin ?
He most likely is using a USB powered light strip. With those all you need are 2 little portable charger power banks (one for each board) to power the lights. They're super convenient and eliminate the hassle of having to play near electrical outlets or use extension cables the DC powered light strips require.
Both light types are around the same price on Amazon just make sure you search 'USB powered LED light strip"
Hope that helps and good luck.
If you click the link you'd find they are plug ins.
How do you power the lights? If by battery how big and how long does it last? Later
Most LED light strips are powered by a 12v supply. You can convert them to battery pretty easily. Amazon sells AA battery packs configured in series to output 12 volts for a few bucks. Then all you need are some AA batteries and you're good to go.
Great video, awesome idea, and fantastic build! Thanks for sharing! Just came across your channel. Thank you for the wonderful ideas and for sharing all you do. Give others as myself something to aspire to create. Please keep it up.
Those are the most badass cornhole boards EVER!
Way to go Utz, showing your hooman who's king of cornhole!!
Nice vid, Chris! Congrats on your Lowes partnership! Way to go, Utz! :D
Thanks bud!!
Wish you could have spent more time explaining the routing and light connections. I really want to do this but am a little confused. I have never used a router and the routing of the hole was like 2 seconds of the video. Don't get me wrong it was a great video just wish it was a little more in depth
I've been wanting to make some cornhole boards and I have been looking around for some ideas. These are awesome and I'm going to try my hand at building a set of these!
Great video, I can make a few of these as gifts with the LEDs, great idea. I do love the dog wining, made me smile. Hilarious, especially that final look n tongue lick. Really, great job.
Nice....You didn't mention how /what tou used to power the lights.
They are plugin lights
So you have to be near an outlet?
@@mfasthorse32 yes or use an extension cord or sub it out for a battery powered string set
They are 12V DC. The wall plug in is just an AC adapter.
A AA BATTERY clip [8 of them] will add up to 12V. [One for each]. I highly suggest going rechargeable.
What I ended up doing was finding a small rechargable car jump pack for each board that had a DC out port. Mine happen to be voltage adjustable from 5 to 20 volts output I believe. It works pretty well with the only downside being I have to have the lights set pretty bright so that the pack detects the draw and doesn't shut off automatically. Reduces the battery life but still plenty enough for a whole weekend of play.
Edit: Now that I think about it though you can probably use a battery pack for a phone and splice a USB connector onto the power wires from the lights. That is if you don't need/want the lights super bright. Most of the time they're fixed at a 5V output.
Edit 2: If you were wondering, I got mine from Wal-Mart on sale a while back. EverStart Maxx 600A bundle
Great video...I love the LED add on
Imo the constant hitting of the the lights will prematurely disable them.
Thanks for sharing and thank you for your service to our country.
Very nicely done. I like the way you recessed the led's into the boards. Super cool
This is a REALLY Good Video But you Forgot one Thing. How Did you Wire up the L.E.D's ??? and How Did You Power Them Up ???
Yes. I really want to know this.
I found this repose below
"Third Coast Craftsman

Hi Rick yes I did buy 2 separate packs and I plugged them in to extension cords. I looked up battery packs that you can plug them into but just saved my money for now and used extension cords"
Just use 9 volt batteries
If you click the link to the led strip he uses it says they are plug in strips. So each strip is likely powered by an extension cord.
Dude, quit your job and just make custom lLED cornhole boards, you’ll make a fortune. Great vid.
That's not a joke! Those things have a strong market. You could literally get 450.00-600.00 for a set like that.
Awesome looking boards exspecially the ones with LEDs on them 👍👍
I love any video with a dog in it, hilarious--and both sets turned out great. I love the LED set!
Super sweet...this one earned you a new subscriber for sure. Yet another build added to my to-do-wishlist. Nice job!!
How were the Led connected? Batterie Pack? I checked your Website for plans but could find any
Nice build Gives me some ideas. Did you power the LED with batteries?
I have the same question about powering the LEDs. Hope he can do a follow video and explain.
They are plugged in to an extension cord but you could buy battery packs
Third Coast Craftsman Thanks. I can figure that out. Great project btw! The look cool.
Nice LED boards! Especially loved the "shoot out" at the end....! Well done.....keep up the great videos!
Before I saw this video I literally had no idea what a Cornhole board was. I wasn't sold on the LED version, then you showed the night shots and they look AWESOME! Good work.
haha thanks. who ever came up with the name cornhole needs to be shot too
i can't figure out how you plug in the led lights. lowes also does not carry them anymore. I was hoping to use a battery so i would not have to plug them in. i send you a dm as well
I used the same lights on my deck , under the rails. Found them on Wish. Very cheap, but took it took a month to get them. Be patient!
Chris!
What brand of epoxy resin did you use?
Fun project. I'll be making some soon myself so this was great info
This is very good! My cub scout crew will be doing this during our winter break...can't wait!
Surprised you found straight and dry lumber at Lowe's
rob baaahaha
I dont blame him for ignoring this comment. However I definitely don't blame you for saying it. I just made some cornhole boards and spent 20 minutes pulling and straightening only to find out they were also twisted.
lowes just resells stuff, it's not like they cut down the trees, ran them through the mill and kiln dried them. complain to the lumbercompany, their name is stamped on most plywood. in other words dont' kill the messenger, or in this case the reseller.
regardless of blame his point remains true.
PhotoBooth biz isn't that the case for all their products? They don't make anything. They just sell it. Doesn't excuse them from poor lumber quality at times.
you go to any lumber yard and there is warped lumber, give me a break, what a bunch of cry babies.
Shoulda made them Maize and Blue for that “friend” or yours...
Go Blue!
My favorite teams; UofM, MSU, and whoever is playing OSU! My uncle who lives in Lansing disagrees with that order :)
