I think Suleyman mourns the loss of his friend, not his death. Even when Ibrahim was still alive he wasn't the same loyal servant who would give his life for his "brother". If he was he wouldn't have doubted the sultan's authority and see himself above him. He became selfish, arrogant and hungry for power. Since he changed he wouldn't have been the same person Sulteyman grew up with, alive or not. The same thing happened in Hatice's case.
