@@SkunkieDesignsElectronics Being old, When I was a child it was common to have “toy” record players the played kids records so records are ingrained in us old folks. This is not that but a 12/13 year old could benefit from learning about anti-skate etc and play some music whether it is this or something else. It is not as important now, but we had two choices as a general matter, records and radio. The cassette was invented in 1962 but we did not use them in the 60s. Turntables for the masses back in the day were crude compared to this but that was what we had and we enjoyed them.
Hi Steph , that ring is gonna sing ...........😊 A cork mat may help for little money, .......as well as a relative basic and good quality cartridge like a MP110 ( Nagaoka) This is not a TT up to your standard of musicality and your amplifiers ...it may be for someone that wants to play records only for the convenience of being able to listen to records as is without any aspiration for a better sound ...some people do not have more aspirations of better quality music reproduction .
Pitch control to “adjust the speed for more natural and smooth music”? Huh? Wha? That makes absolutely zero sense. 😂 Still looks ok for someone just getting into the vinyl thing. Thanks, Stephe.
A steel platter concerns me because the magnets inside the cartridge will pull toward it, not just because it rings like a bell. A thick (3-5 mm) rubber mat will help.
The weight is okay. Under 3 grams the tracking is not good and cause distortion. Enjoy it with 3 grams and be happy, because the Rega Carbon is the same stylus for 3 times the price.
If you really want to enjoy vinyl, it is best to go for the old (MKV, MKVII.. modified, with Rega tonearm, rewired...) or new direct drive Technics 1200.
i'm not expecting much from this one :P you can get refurbished technics 1200s from japan for cheap. i can't see recommending any of these newer budget tables to friends. maybe the AT- LP120, but even those went up in price to around the price of a used 1200.
I recommend a Pioneer PLX1000 for $699. I bought one and added a Denon 103 mc cartridge ($350). Read Herb Reichert's review in the Stereophile archives.
Meh. It's a record player. Ok if your favourite albums haven't been digitally remastered that well onto CD. But then again it has a cheap cartridge which kinda cancels out that justification doesn't it! I much prefer the 100dB dynamic range of CD's. Plus I can turn em up nice n loud without having to hold up my bodyweight on the turntable lid, or yell at the grandkids for running in the house, to stop the acoustic feedback. My little 7W (1W?) tube amp can give much louder average volume from records, with their low 35dB dynamic range. It runs into clipping real quick with CD's though! I have 2 stereos. My Toshiba BD turntable with a Stanton 'something something 55' cartridge connected to myself-built ETI series 5000 preamp with its inbuilt you-beaut RIAA phono stage, driving my little self built valve amp. Then I have my playstation, CD player, preamp, tuner, & bluetooth receiver all connected to my self built 'SiliconChip' magazine 135W/ch Ultra-LD MkIV amp. I have a heavy duty switch-over box between the 2 amps & my self-built Majestic speakers. Mostly I use my s.s. amp, but I sometimes play a record & bathe in the warmth & amber 'lighting' of my valve amp. It's much more attractive to look at with its woodgrain, stainless steel, & the shiny black painted transformers. The Ultra-LD MkIV is just a semi-gloss black box!
Steph~ Never read the marketing BS that's for Noobs / Sheep!!! Let's see what you think and then I'll comment or not... I will say even on the higher price tables that use the "fishing line and sinker" they are a pain in the Toukus and not very accurate!! I personally recommend these tables for buying thrift LP's as even after cleaning they can be scrap (frisbees)...
Did you watch the video? I did try a better cart, as well as a much better stylus and honestly didn't do much for this table. I believe this tonearm will limit what this table is capable of resolving.
From afar that thing looks the part 👍. Couple that with some true wireless speakers like the Morel Biggies (ca. 600/pair) and you have a neat little system with no cabling headaches.
I would not be surprised if it performed to a point of usefulness
Looking forward to the next video on this one
Just listened to it and that describes it well.

That cartridge is a little gem for that price, great sound for little money. Check out LP gear and their eliptical stylus for this cartridge.

One could use Bitumen that is used to dampen auto , to dampen the steel platter.
Yup!
You could probably only but it around the insde of the lip of the platter as it would likely foul the motor

Fun little video👍
I am a bit skeptical about this unit. I think a Fluance or Project would be money better spent

Yes, definitely needs a rubber mat. They don't cost much!
That steel platter is an Achilles heel. The company should provide a cast zinc platter instead. Still cheap and rings less!

speed control is good for records mastered a bit too fast or too slow. ive come across it a few times. not sure why but it happens.
Sometimes the tape machine is a bit off speed.
It might sound crap but I'm still impressed that this is only $180 or less.
Yeah, no idea how it's made to this price point.
The Fluance RT80 sells for $200. If that's all you can spend, you can do better than the Angels' Horn.

Obviously higher priced units are gonna be built to a higher standard. The next video will go into: is this too low end to really enjoy vinyl with?
@@SkunkieDesignsElectronicsyes. This is too low end.

There's a zillion factors that make the difference between a good turntable and an inadequate turntable. This one?

A better cartridge will make a difference - Grado Prestige $89.

An arcrilic platter will dampen it properly!
Well that's not really an option and not worth doing to this table.
Well...🙄First!!
