This is pretty fun from a physics perspective. I mean technically you can throw a disc with just one leg... Either one lol. But to be efficient you need both.
Here is more of a focus on the transfer of energy. The slingshot guy has a focus on generating energy. His big flaw is he forgets about this thing called an x-step or run-up that generates plenty of momentum. You don't have to have this huge push off your back leg.
He always demonstrates with this stand still side to side shuffle and exclaims how difficult and tiring it is. Well yeah, you're trying to accelerate a 200lb stationary object. I suppose his technique is great for standstills. 😅
Try doing a full sprint and instantaneously stop yourself with your plant leg. You can't. Your body has too much inertia. Point being, you shouldn't generate more energy than your plant leg can transfer. It will be wasted energy.
I totally agree there are too many online coaches that just simply don't understand what they are teaching. You can't just watch a video and know what's happening. You can see the general motion of the throw, but what you can't see is what muscles are firing in which sequence with what percent of energy. Movements that are simply consequences of other actions incorrectly become a focal point in teaching.
Long story short, in my opinion, the Spin Doc knows the way.

Got to say, I bought the slinghsot course, it has some great points with getting body into position but I kept on rotating my hips too early. The feeling of putting weight on the front planted leg NEEDS to be emphasized to develop a real throw. Spin Doc has spelled this out in several videos and it has completely transformed my throw. Thank you!

Hey dude, about a month ago I posted on your video about focusing on the arm asking a question. After that, I watched all your Great One-on-One videos. Then I immediately bought a net and recorded myself throwing into it for one session, watching myself back each time in slow motion. Before I ever found your videos I had set a goal for 2023 to reach 350 feet. My max was 300, maybe 310 only once. After your videos, the training session with the net and watching it in slow mo and adjusting little by little, my next few rounds on the course I began noticing a change, but I wasn't quite sure. All I knew is throws were feeling easier, smoother, and with less effort. This past Sunday after a round I was feeling good and decided to let one rip in the field nearby since I hadn't measured anything for a while. I threw 362 feet, achieving my goal comfortably! Yesterday I went out for another field work session and hit 371 feet! Of course in only about a month I still need to get the consistency. However, my shortest throws yesterday were still 330+ feet which is more than my best throw with my old bad form. I threw about ten more 350+ feet shots, a couple of 360+ and of course the 371! All of these new distances were accurate as well by the way. My next step (before trying for 400) is to hit the 350 every time, which I know will come with keeping up the practice. But in about 3-4 weeks everything drastically changed for me thanks to your videos.
You were so right when you said there is a ton of bad information on RUclips making viewers focus on all the wrong things. I know because I went down the same rabbit hole myself many times.
Thanks for cutting out all the BS from your instructions and getting right to the point.
Just for a frame of reference for anyone else that might read this, I'm 36, in okay shape (pretty much just pullups, weighted pushups, and leg raises only 3-4 times a week so nothing crazy) and my flexibility sucks. So if it's possible for me I think many others out there can benefit from these straight-forward videos.
    Thanks again!

This is a terrific video. You picked some odd examples though, as Dave Feldberg, like James Conrad, has a very pronounced forward lean toward the target, which dramatically changes his spine orientation through the shot. These are very much throw off the front legs guys for sure. IMHO, much better examples of throwing around a spine that doesn't lean toward the target are Paul Macbeth, Drew Gibson and Simon Lizotte. These players are behind their lead leg until well after the disc is ejected.
I like your point at 2:40. I added 75-100 feet of distance in my 50s, getting over 500 feet, by adding a push off my back leg. But it comes from the ball of the foot/toes, and it is not a lateral drift, rather it is the turning of the leg to initiate the hip turn. Power comes from the ground up: ankle, knee, hips, shoulders, elbow, wrist, in that order, but the more speed you can generate, the more compressed and stacked the sequence becomes, until it starts to feel synchronized. I like to think of the power flowing through the body to maintain relaxation.
That sequence comes from Billy "Landhammer" Lund, here in Tulsa, who I've seen throw over 600 feet on multiple occasions.
The push off the back leg is subtle, but important. I like to feel like any effort I am exerting comes as late as possible, through the ejection of the disc.
So in that way I strongly agree with you, if you exerted and went for it from the back leg, you would be decelerating at the point you eject the disc.
Back leg disc golf is subtle and takes a ton of practice, but it got me to throwing accurate, repeatable 425 foot drives with a slow, relaxed 3 step walk-up. I can throw 500+ feet max power, but I can't place the disc where I want it, so max power is almost never useful for me in a round of disc golf.

I have followed closely your videos on bracing and coil. I got my first chance to work it in during some field work yesterday and today. I didn't get the timing precisely yesterday, but still my average drives were at the upper end of my usual drives with less effort.
Today I was finally able to click in on the timing on 6 or 7 of my last 20 shots, including the last 3. Two of them were at least 25 feet beyond the upper end of my previous best and the final throw more than 50 feet further. I am convinced I can add even more distance as I continue working on other tips I have gleaned from your videos.
You don't necessarily teach anything different that some of the other coaching videos I've seen. I think they were trying to get to the same place. But, for me, you have been the easiest to follow precisely what the objective is and how to get there. Thank you!

I wise instructor once told me to study the plant of javelin throwers. Sure, their speed on the approach is important, but its the plants ability to transfer that energy violently into the mechanism created by the throwers body that makes the magic happen. So many of us are doing a sort of modified strong arm of the disc, attempting to add power with might, while any extra power is not captured by the plant an subsequent transfer, and in most cases the "try to throw hard" approach leads to tension in the transmission of the power and imbalance as well.

My journey as a player is done at this point. I don't care about playing or improving as a disc golfer anymore. I peaked 10 years ago, and honestly don't have that mentality to climb up anymore. There are comments saying I'm just an amateur who knows nothing. Well, if 23 years of competitive discgolf, dozens of rounds +1000 rated and countless of hours of actual coaching in person is being an amateur, then I fit the description.
I only want my viewers and clients improve their game, and being a better teacher and communicator of knowledge. I will also make mistakes, have made many in the past, and sometimes choose a wrong or misleading wording and also see things that are not there. That is also a part of being a teacher. My success is not depending on the amount of birdies I make, or how my rating improves, or how much distance I gain. My success is depending on how much YOU improve.

Now stick your right arm straight out in front of you keep it there and turn your shoulders as much as you can (can help to think of it as rightr shoulder forward, left shoulder back) The arm will move but don't move the arm. Don't move the feet, don't lean; remain balanced. Now just drop the heel and feel the brace send everything through. =)

One thing in the whole backleg frontleg "debate" that is quite interesting is that muscles by design are much stronger when breaking. You need a lot of effort trying to jump up one meter in the air. Landning i effortless although you need to build up the same force. Having such a hard time here, I may be getting it, but it doesn't feel like it. Hell my back leg wants to pirouette around me . I've felt the full force once and it seemed to shock my entire system, it seems that is what I want to feel, so that it's like a real brace, all forward momentum is forced to stop, sending all that energy up through my throw (again, I've felt that once and no idea how to do it). I'm losing a lot of power somewhere. I can force myself not to Pirouette, but it doesn't seem to change anything. I understand the concept of sliding across the floor and putting your weight on the right foot , I understand trying to push against the wall/fence, but pros have their bodies fairly back and away from that brace
(you don't want your body over the brace, that is putting yourself to far forward) and again it seems to me they are feeling what I felt that "one" time, where my body was forced to stop and all that energy travelled up, I need to get that feeling back, or someone needs to tell me that's a bad feeling and you are going to wreck your knee, so stop chasing it :)

Something that might help you is planting a bit farther away or making sure your upper fires off after your planted and had time to shift your weight to your centre.

It only matters to see the coaches follow their exploration of the game.
There is no one way and the optimal form is an integration of multiple teachers’ methods.
Support those who are exploring and documenting the journey, we need all of them, and each of them has a unique viewpoint and some value to lend.

He also emphasized that weight is initially loaded on the back foot, but your core should be positioned between your feet - same as slingshot.

I found that the more I pushed the more power i get, another option is to run really fast like James Conrado. American baseball pictures can throw 95 mph on flat ground, from a standstill, no run up. That is 10mph better than the best disc distance thrower, with a run up. Pictures drive off the back leg and brace with the front leg. It takes many years of strength, mobility, and technique training.
It isn't wrong, it is just very hard to do well.
Page Pierce definitely pushes hard off her back leg, and she has the mobility to keep pushing throughout a long stride, right into her brace.
She says engaging her glute of the back leg is key.

@@vennauer I wouldn't say a picturer can throw 95 mph on flat ground, unless it is so. There are youtube videos capturing this. Off a mound, pictures can throw over 100mph.
The BH isn't as different as you think. Both keep the head and trunk behind the hips until the throw. Both maximize disassociation in the coil, and finish with high disassociation in the opposite direction. Both rely on the front leg to brace and send energy up the kinesthetic chain.
Or think of swinging a bat. That looks like a backhand. Yet, the player pushes hard off the back leg and pumps the hip from that leg forward to finish powering the swing. No run up for a batter, yet generates plenty of forward and rotational energy.

@Harrison Swanson They (McBeth, Wiggins Jr. or Gurthie) absolutely do not kick off their back leg. Lookup Seabass22 videos "Crush the can." Each of them are in those videos. They settle into their brace and rotate their core. The hips swivel and the back knee drops with the rear leg acting as counterbalance. This is the byproduct of a properly timed weight/pressure shift + core rotation.
