Iyalya said she would date a bus driver and build with him but still have a prenuptial agreement. Who gon tell her that building isn't resting in her femininity. I love how this question never gets asks by other races of women. They are taught to practice hypergamy because the men are already well established before they enter the women's lives.
40% of American women earn more than their male counterparts. What are you talking about? 🤔 Y'all spend to much time insulting Black men Y'all don't even know what's going on outside of your front door. "Economically unattractive men are leading to a downturn in marriage." Written by a white woman primarily speaking about white men. Ladies you wanted equality, what did you think was going to come with it? 🤔 If you are like Eboni and you are a 40 year old millionaire, you occupy the provider role. Go find a 28 - 32 year old very attractive, less accomplished man and make him a house husband. That is what men in Eboni's position do. This is what a egalitarian system looks like. What did Y'all expect?
Though she's entitled to date who she wants, I really wish we would stop putting other groups of people on such a high pedestal. The majority of women from other races are not marrying successful well established men. Majority of men are average regardless of race.
Iyanla has learned and grown over the years and realizes that her boss bitch mentality ruined her children. You call that goofy because you enjoy the Chad Tyrone's pookies and Ray Ray's.
Eboni is a well educated, wealthy Black woman. She did not single out Black men yet they are the ones screaming from the mountain top saying she's wrong for not embracing their mediocrity. Black men want to act like breadwinners on women's dime and that's annoying. Other cultures do this all the time in wanting their children to marry into families that are equally yoked. Y'all bullying her into dating mediocrity is embarrassing.
You're wrong. 40% of women in America earn more than their male counterparts. Do women/Black women want equality or don't they? You can't have one foot in patriarchy and one foot in a egalitarian society. Choose one. This is what comes with equality.
But she did single out black men. Working class black men. She defines one without high status and high income as mediocrity and suffering from the bigotry of low expectations. That was an insult and a singling out of working class black men I got no problem with what she said originally. Date who you want to date, your preference…But don’t put down everyone who doesn’t have the status and money to date you. Her response to the backlash tells me she’s a horrible person. I have my preferences in woman. You don’t see me going on air to trash every woman who doesn’t meet those preferences. Curious, What do you think would happen if a high status black man trashed working class black woman or black single mothers? Called them mediocrity and suffering from the bigotry of low expectations? You’re gonna BS me so I’ll just tell you. You ladies would be up in arms
@@joshuad7953 she was responding to the Black men who were in her comments. Other races of men said nothing. Clearly you were not present for the Kevin Samuels era when so called high value men were ganging up on black women. We were told by black men that we needed to hear the truth despite us not asking for their opinion.
@@Melanin-richh Ok so by responding to the black men in her comments, she managed to expose her true feelings about all black working class men. It doesn’t make it better. Second, what Kevin Samuels said does not justify what she said, just as her opinion would not have justified Kevin Samuels. What you’re doing is making a “what aboutism” argument.
@@Melanin-richh Third….Let’s talk about the truth. I am in no way bragging but telling you this just to make a point….I own my own trucking company with over 50 Semi’s in my fleet and roughly 100 employees. I live fairly comfortably. I would run from a woman ebony’s mentality. Let me tell you why My father was a truck driver for FedEx. A through and through working class man and the best man I have ever known. He held our family down, particularly after our mother died when I was 8, my sister 10. Sacrificed so much to raise us right and ALL my success I owe to that man. From my morality, to how to be a man, even my success in the trucking industry and starting my own company, I owe to him. What you don’t seem to get is that most of us black men who are at the level ebony would want to date were raised by working class black men. For a woman not to see the value in a man like my father who is literally the best man I’ve ever known is a MAJOR turn off. And frankly if that’s what attract you to me, my money and my status, it’s a sign of a lack of loyalty. Because what happens if my business takes a turn for the worst and the money and status goes away? The woman leaves with it. The men ebony thinks are worthy of her would run from her the moment they found out what her ideology is.
Honestly, would anyone actually think a female lawyer would date a bus driver? I'm a blue collar union worker and wouldn't even bother asking a female judge, doctor or lawyer out on a date. Unpopular comment I know 🤷🤷🤷
But if you are a good man, you should! Many of them are available, because they have spent more time in school than they have on relationships. There are absolutely exceptions.
no they don't. are you not aware that we are not only the aproachers but also proposers and buyer$ of expen$ive ring$? we decide if you deserve thi$ not you. if you want that to change then you can $tart buying the ring$.
Eboni is a lawyer. She has every right to date a man who matches her ambition. Could she meet a good dude who isn't as successful as her? Sure, but it's only a matter of time before their differences affect the relationship. Scenario: Eboni has been invited to a gala with her peers. She brings him (bus driver) along as her date. As always, the question of "death" is asked, "What do you do for a living?" He's surrounded by lawyers and other highly-educated men and women. He has always been comfortable with what he does because it's an honest living. However, his ego and pride take a hit because he's not among his peers and people will judge him. That is what happens with mismatched couples. You can't just be okay together behind closed doors. You have to be compatible in all areas of your lives.
lol no thats not true you dont have to be compatible in every aspects both parties just need to know there role and do it happily and the relationship will work out believe it or not a marriage is a business and your product is kids how succesful your business is depends on how happy and willing to do the work your team is. Most women have a fairy tale dream of meeting someone you match with perfectly but let me say this i have yet to meet a woman who has any of the same interest as me and if i found one she probably be a dude in a dress and if a woman found a man they were 100 percent compatible with he probably be a trans man we different simple
1) struggle? She is a lawyer. She already make a lot o money, she wouldn't struggle regardless who she is dating. It also implies that all blu collars jobs make pennies, and it is clearly not true. 2) do you really think that insulting people's job would get her anywhere?
@BossDante46 That's not true. If she dates down as often most BW do when dating BM , it is a struggle because, more often than not, resentment builds either by him or by both.
She was not saying that women should not want a better life or lifestyle. She is saying that our drive to do and be should not come from external motivators whether prompted by fear, necessity, or greed. We should tap more into the essence of womanhood from our creator. If we approach life in this manner, we will attract those things we desire because it is from a place of authenticity rather than hustle mentality. Thus saying she would date a bus driver and have a prenup to protect what she’s built. It’s a healthy balance to allow him the space and freedom to be a provider and protector without losing herself in the relationship.
so you're telling me Ebony should work hard her entire life building character, get good grades, build a successful career and then marry a bus driver who used to idle in class, never pushed himself, cant even express himself, possibly have character flaws and they would be compatible?
Does a bus driver mean they idled in class though? Or have an undesirable character??? My grandfather was very educated and worked in the mailroom for over 30 years yet provided for 7 kids and owned a home. Now it’s a new day no one needs to go to college or have top titles to generate wealth. It DAMN SURE doesn’t correlate to character. You know how many ppl who don’t have a degree and make more than me and I’m a doctor. I also know many of my peers who suck ass in character money management and forward thinking. We cannot equate position to intelligence.
@@cyyrious intelligence doesn’t pay the bills. He chose to have 7 kids. He chose his lane. She shouldn't do a got damn thing. She should enjoy her journey to becoming a single black mother and if it's a nonbinary boy child 😅it can be her husband. Ebony has more problems than this. This crazy lady literally asked Iyanla what can parents do to help a boy/girl or nonbinary child. You knees grows allow any body to talk this crazy talk and support it😅
I wonder if Iyanla would have asked this question to a white woman? We catch the absolute most flack when we have built a whole empire for ourselves outside of a man. What’s wrong with wanting someone to meet you where you are? Eboni was asked a question and she simply answered and was criticized for her wanting more like most people do who think your standards are unattainable. I understand the point Iyanla was trying to make but mother’s point of view is not always law. If Eboni was braggadocios about her perspective or demeaning it would be different. Stand on what you said Eboni.
White women are literally dealing with the same thing. There are articles with titles like "Economically unattractive men are leading to a downturn in marriage" written by white women. So many are so quick to speak about how Black men are lacking that they miss what's going on in the world around them. Also Eboni occupies the provider role as a 40 year old millionaire. And just like the men would just find a attractive 28- 32 year old less accomplished woman to marry them, the women like Eboni might have to do the same with a younger less accomplished man. Eboni occupies the provider role. Ladies you can't have both. Either you want feminism or you want patriarchy. If you don't know what's happening abound the world than what are you talking about? 40% of American women earn more than their male counterparts so this is not exclusive to the Black community. I honestly feel Ms. Williams did not think before she spoke. It happens. And her answer is her truth. Unfortunately, the question was a loaded one. Dr. Vanzant challenged her with this question. As simple as it was, there are many components that go into the answer. Ms. Williams spoke her truth and that's fine. However, her truth on this platform with this guest held no weight to the depth of the answer. It was very shallow to say the least. And it portrayed her as such. There are many wonderful men out here that are blue collar workers. The majority of our fathers and grandfathers were blue collar workers, and provided for and protected their families. They are the reasons many of us are able to go to college or even dreamt of degrees and "Not being without", as Ms. Williams stated so assertively in the interview with Dr. Vanzant. Those men were pillars of our community, and the core of our family structures. And regardless of the job, or title, they ALWAYS showed up. So to discredit a man that's a "bus driver" in my opinion is ignorant. That same man may be retired from another job and is sitting on a GOLD mine! But he enjoys driving a bus. And has the integrity to prove it by being in a position of service to others. Moral of the story, think before you speak. And understand WHO you are speaking to and about. This video in response to the interview really wasn't needed. As Ms. Williams already showed her hand during the Iyanla interview. Damage control just caused more damage. So there's that.
God bless you my dear sister and your well thought out, eloquently, brilliantly written comment. While other black women are speaking out of emotions and some from the hate they have for black men. None took the time to analyze the original interview and this so called "clap-back". As you well put, "damage control". This is all lip service and word salad. She said what she said and now she's trying to spin it. We are NOT stupid, we heard exactly what she said. Even her demeanor with Iyanla spoke volume on how she feels about blue collar black men. It had absolutely NOTHING to do with what she's claiming now. NONE! Anyways, as a brother that owns a small business with blue collar black men working for me, I THANK YOU for shinning a light on her BS respond. Nothing but resect. Stay safe.
I really hope she(Ms.Williams) reads your comment! Well said. I’m sorry that materialism is a true measure of success and a false sense of happiness for many in our society men and women alike. Funny how money is the precursor that most relationships are built off not a person’s morals or values in today’s world.
Right! She missed the whole point. One of the reasons why she will always keep being left at the bus stop by the bus owner. Iyanla was talking about learning how to better yourself mentally and emotionally so you can learn how to give and accept love. She lied is this clip that it wasn't about finances when most of the things she was talking about was finances to Iyanla lol.
Iyanla offered a different and much needed perspective. She asked for advice as a "successful", yet single 40 year woman who has "done them all" and failed. The answer was simply to see your potential mate as your special person and PARTNER. How he earns his money in this capitalistic society and the title they have attached to his labor should not dictate the unity especially if he is loving, providing and leading like you desire. You mate might be in 99% instead of the 1%🤷🏾♂️.
@@mekichey129 And you know that because she shamelessly shared it. That's her story. So what! We all have one. And Eboni disclosed having left a man because he quarantined with HIS kids 🙄. I really don't get what the problem is. She has worked her way up the ladder and has earned a great career and financial security. She has the absolute right to say she wants someone in her financial bracket or near it. The same way someone that works out every day can say they want a partner that also works out every day. Now, if she was broke saying she didn't want a bus driver, ya'll can be mad. If she was morbidly obese, saying she wanted someone with a nice body, y'all could go in. The overwhelming majority of black men aren’t telling black women to settle not accept mediocrity. @@dccarsonmusic Your 100% correct. And let me clarify that Iyanla Vanzant said nothing wrong. She is correct in a general sense. There's nothing wrong with a bus driver. And, personally i don't mind women playing carrot and saying, on the surface, they want their men to compete and achieve to the highest degree. As long as it's in good faith.
It’s interesting in Eboni’s response she assumes this hypothetical bus driver is black when the original question never mentioned that; only that he was a moral hard working person. She’s using race to deflect from her controversial perspectives.
She said what she said, and here is what she said: “some of us feel the men available to us; I'm talking about across the color spectrum, across the age spectrum-Trust me, I've done them all, they are not positioned to protect nor provide.” Nothing about black men specifically. Her grandfather as a bus driver is not the same as this generation of young adults choosing to be bus drivers. Especially if they are capable of more. The elders did the best they could with what they had. That’s excellence, but too many young male adults settle for comfort and complacency. Women aren’t the only ones who can adjust their crown. Yes, we can create with a bus driver with aspirations for more. But, what about the bus driver who feels that’s “good enough”? Should she adjust her 7 figure lifestyle to meet his income? Should change to provide for the man even though she wants a man who can provide for her? Why is that more right? If a woman is going to stand in her femininity she needs a man that stands in his as well. It can be hard to see that when as a woman you are providing for your man. By saying that she’d rather date a bus “owner” versus a bus “driver”. There was a implicit class distinction made there which most people immediately recognize and attach to 6 figure salaries, high intelligence, greater character values, quality of personality, etc., to. Which is why she received that kind of visceral response. I think the ivanya [sic] lady she had on earlier provided valuable information and insight. I think we should heed what the elder was saying. But let that woman ebony go, if she only wants to entertain men who are at her social status or higher, let her. She has money, a successful career, and is doing her own thing, but she’s not in the lower class of Americans. I know that’s tough to hear but that’s why she doesn’t see it that way, like she didn’t say anything wrong. Her circle has money also, her family and network of friends that help reinforce these narratives and modes of feminine desires just don’t grow congruently with how the dating world is shaped today. At least for most people. I think this is a great development, I think what we are starting to see is a growing divide between what masculinity and femininity means separately across the different class divisions in American society, just because ebony is black doesn’t mean she has the same prospective and prospects as the 28 yr, mom of two, that’s a manager at Wendy’s making under $40k.

The crazy part is they both would make the same amount of money once you deduct the cost to run that bus and taxes. One bus ain't gonna do anything for you.

I respect her honesty. Nothing wrong with a woman wanting a man with a high income if she also earns a high income. I’m not saying a bus driver isn’t a high income earner but the median black income is $46K. If a female attorney earns $120K, why shouldn’t she prefer a man that earns the same or more?
Exactly. Anyone saying anything else is literally telling her to lower her standards. Nobody tells any other group of women this. Nobody tells men this
Her preference just may not want her. She's an unhappy soul, and there's not enough money and beauty to fill the void she has within herself. These type of women are usually a turn off to the men they desire to date. She needs some Jesus!! . High incomes does not equate to genuine love. It's your attitude Sis. It's your attitude. And it's your tone. Plus, in the moment of "if he owns the bus" was your opportunity to IMMEDIATELY go into Black ownership and how moving goal posts get in the way of our possible business development and ownership. Also, that was time to insert resources to help the Black community learn more about the goal post locations. We both know ownership, especially in the transportation industry, is not a simple 123 for most folks be they White or Black. The attitude, micro-facial expressions, pursed lips, oh no she didn't just ask me that type of hesitation, is what many White and Black folks noticed. Iysnla's point spoke to your fact that women are outpacing men. Therefore, we need to acknowledge that, factor it into our dating choices, and without the look of disdain toward those we may not want, choose accordingly. It's not what you say if you want to make certain points. It's how you say it and the supporting facts you immediately bring to the conversation while saying it. Words and receipts matter. Emotional based response is actually a reaction and can cause us to miss wonderful opportunity to clearly express ourselves (both men and women) in real-time. Doing so after the fact is oftentimes too late. It was your attitude that was visibly fueled by your instantly released emotion that caused all the stir. I understand and appreciate your intent as well as I understand and appreciate Iyanla's intent. Both have place at the table for emotionally controlled discussion.
This, right here. Moving the Goalpost. This conversation was about Provision and Protection, it had nothing to do with black ownership, being held down by the man, or any of that other stuff. The idiocy that your bloviating is beyond repugnant. But I'll humor you with the response. Yes, she said what she said and she's a moron for it. Black American households are dead last for household income because the women chose the government over the men. Men are not getting mad at this female for being delusional. They're just calling her out on her delusion. You're talking about raising the bar, when most of these black men are being raised by women with your mindset. Again, you chose the government over the men and you are the primary educators of these men. This is your guys's creation. Don't be mad at the men, be mad at the women that are raising them. Yes, women have excelled in education. But they also excelled at being the most debt ridden group in America. You have also excelled at being the main group that gets a career that doesn't align with the degree they went after in college. Making their degree completely obsolete. Expecting something above average when your average yourself is what's damaging our community. Having unreasonably high expectations and a skewed sense of logic is what is damaging our community. Following a movement that has never supported your community, is what has been damaging our community. Average is average for a reason. It's because most people fall into the average category. Thinking you're above average, for doing average things is what has females like you believing that you deserve above average, for your mediocre averageness. You are average, I am average, and 90% of this country is average. But your delusional thought process has you believing that you are above average for mundane accomplishments. Women consider themselves models for taking selfies and posting them on Twitter. Women consider themselves entrepreneurs for starting a failed business. Women claim to be bosses while having no employees. Women claim to be queens while having no king to give them that title. Get your head from out of your crust covered cheeks and join the real world. Talk to women that have your thought process and explain to them how they are wrong and how they need to grow up and grow past this unrealistic expectation of life. This isn't a Disney movie. Most people don't have a happy ending. Marriage isn't about love. It's about respect and responsibility. Kids are not tools, they are your future legacy. Your job is not a bargaining tool to get a man that's out of your market value. You're not a man. Your job doesn't mean nothing to men. While we are at it, let's shame Disney for always making the heroines always marry a prince. Let her marry the blacksmith or the milkman or the carriage driver. Let's make all the super heroes poor. Let Batman be a bus driver or with some menial job like Spiderman. Take away the kingdoms of all the MCU characters and make them broke. Let's see how you guys would enjoy that.
Disney is much of the reason why so many XX chromosomes are confused about being in the breadwinner role when they are in that position. Eboni is a legit 40 year old millionaire. Its time for her to find a highly attractive 27 year old man and make him a house husband. Iyanla tried to tell Eboni what the environment is but Eboni ain't hearing it... Oh and this isn't exclusive to Black women, successful women over 40 just find it difficult to find men because they still want to date and marry up. Unfortunately they occupy such a small slice of income earners that they price themselves out... as evidenced by Eboni's current love life.
IT IS A DOUBLE STANDARD. BLACK MEN HAVE BEEN CHEERING KEVIN SAMUEL'S VIEWS ON A HIGH VALUE MAN. HE'S LAID OUT A BUNCH OF RULES FOR A WOMAN WHO WANTS TO BE MARRIED TO A HIGH VALUE MAN. SHE HAS TO BE A CERTAIN DRESS SIZE, COOKING, CLEANING, CATERING TO HIS EVERY NEED BUT WHEN A WOMAN SAYS SHE'S A HIGH VALUE WOMAN AND DESIRES A HIGH VALUE MAN THAT EARNS A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF MONEY, ONE WHO PROTECTS AND NURTURE. ALL OF THEM START TO BUCK AND IS OFFENDED. THE IRONY IS THEY DON'T WANT TO EARN OR DON'T KNOW HOW TO EARN THAT KIND OF MONEY AND WOMEN DON'T WANT TO BE FORCED TO LOSE WEIGHT AND BE STUCK IN THE HOUSE AS A DEPENDANT. THIS GENERATION ESPECIALLY WANTS THE CAREER THEY'VE ALWAYS DESIRED, THEY WANT TO TRAVEL AND SEE THE WORLD, THEY WANT TO BE OUTSIDE ❗AND THEN MAYBE HAVE KIDS WHEN IT IS OUT OF THEIR SYSTEMS.
I have demands too. She wouldn't date a bus driver, and I wouldn't date a black woman that perms her hair straight like a white woman. She is ashamed of herself. A self hating, pocket watching, lonely hoe.
This is the modern woman, failure in it's flesh. She is putting on full display of the very attitude and disposition that's caused her failure at relationships. Instead of humility, you get defiance. Ladies you wanted equality, what did you think was going to come with it? 🤔
If you are like Eboni and you are a 40 year old millionaire, you occupy the provider role.
Because the war on black folk included boys and men. And the lack of family business and black pride, leads to this.
That was an insult and a singling out of working class black men
I got no problem with what she said originally. Date who you want to date, your preference…But don’t put down everyone who doesn’t have the status and money to date you. Her response to the backlash tells me she’s a horrible person.

My father was a truck driver for FedEx.

The overwhelming majority of black men aren’t telling black women to settle not accept mediocrity. What we are saying is that when you start adding up all your preferences, the probability of finding all of them in one person exponentially decreases. Many of the preferences are wants, not needs. You can want what you want, but there’s probably a good reason why you’re not finding what you want. Next, you still have to understand what your preferences prefers. If you want the well educated, great job, financially sound, attractive, sexually proficient, emotionally intelligent man, what does that man want? The answer to that is going to be extremely uncomfortable. I believe we need to create safe, not hate spaces for our sisters. But we gotta kill these comfortable lies and start addressing some uncomfortable truths!

@@dccarsonmusic how can black woman claim to be the most educated, but yet cannot grasp simple logic?
@@dccarsonmusic Your 100% correct. And let me clarify that Iyanla Vanzant said nothing wrong. She is correct in a general sense. There's nothing wrong with a bus driver. But Eboni's answer appeals to me more because it should allow men like myself to take focus away from women and onto themselves and what they have to offer. Not necessarily to women, but as someone's work that's validated by himself under God. Everything else (women included) should fall under that order.
Great point
The conversation was about Black men and women...
Most of the comments were from black people, specifically black men. She addressed the audience that took offense.
She said what she said, and here is what she said:
“some of us feel the men available to us; I'm talking about across the color spectrum, across the age spectrum-Trust me, I've done them all, they are not positioned to protect nor provide.”
Nothing about black men specifically. This is the statement that prompted the bus driver question. The question was designed to tease out what she values in any man regardless of race since she’s “done them all” and still can’t find a good one.

Again, her grandfather as a bus driver “providing” for her to go to law school is not the same as her as a lawyer/public figure/influencer providing for her man who is a bus driver. Context is everything!

SHE DID NOT COWER TO BLACKISTAN!!! SOOOO PROUD OF A BLACK WOMAN WITH UNCOMPROMISING STANDARDS!!!!
Well, when she asked you that question i knew there would be trouble whichever way you answered. The truth of the matter as an African, a lady who is a lawyer in Africa would answer the same way and it would be no issue because in Africa someone with a degree is usually but not always seeking someone with a degree too. The funny thing is some will still seek a man with less money but better educated because that is just what they valiue whereas in the US it seems making X amount of dollars is what gives worth.
When you said only of he owns it, i laughed hard. It was comical even though it also made sense. I am with you, if you inspire more black boys to be bus owners rather than just bus drivers that is great. We still need bus drivers and they play a key role in any economy. I wish she had just asked you if you would date someone that earns say X amount of dollars that would have been more general that how it came across that she was suggesting at least that bus drivers were somhow less than. There is not a problem with a person wanting what they want as long as they are willing to accept the outcomes that come along with those choices. My problem with the original interview is the dishonesty through omission. The data used did not tell whole story so it did not properly support the point. Most importantly, the Pew Research data was specifically talking about the below 30 age group. It did not include the age group where men are typically at their earning peak.

She doesn’t want that
I don't see a bus driver and a teacher being equivalent in terms of value added to society. A teacher feeds the minds of children who will be future contributors to society. While bus drivers are needed in our society primarily for convenience, I wouldn't say that job carries as much weight as a teacher, paramedic, or fire fighter for example.
