    👍thank you, good info. So that’s why our soy candles don’t give off much scent. We need to burn them hotter with dif wicks. We make them just for us & we burn them only in the kitchen sink for safety. We’ve reheated the leftover wax so many times it gets dirty looking so we add a few coffee beans & it looks like it’s on purpose plus smells good.

    Thank you for this video. I'm new to working with wax and I suck at it so far. I'm working with the GB 416 wax, because I'm making melts. Everything you don't want to happen has been happening. The hot throw is almost nonexistent, the tops are lumpy, it frosts horribly and it doesn't release from the clamshells without a struggle. I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. I'm adding my fragrance (10%) at about 183, stirring for 2 or 3 minutes and pouring between 135 and 165. I started pouring at 145 and I've adjusted up and down trying to find the right temp.My room temperature is always right around 72ish. I want so badly to figure this out, but man its a lot harder than I anticipated. Also I had no clue about the fragrance oil eating through things. I measured out and separated my oil into small dixie cups earlier and within just a couple minutes it was all over my counter. I was so confused, lol.

    I've been watching for awhile now. You explain things so clearly and complicated. I really enjoy watching your ideas over and over again. I have to ask a lot of people say to warm up the containers first. Will that name a big difference if I do or do not warm the containers.

      I don’t warm my jars. It can make a difference but not enough for me to overlook the extra time that it takes to warm them.

    Thanks for the great video. This is the best one I've seen. I want to try that wax now. I use a eco soy wax and that makes so much sense that adding the fragrance when it's too hot will burn it off. Can you recommend a pine scent? I tried making a candle with pine essential oil and even though I put a ton in the smell was extremely weak.

    • @StandleyHandcrafted
      @StandleyHandcrafted  5 лет назад

      Kimberly and Emylia 464 is a great wax. I’d go for the blue spruce or the fit scent from Candle a Science, they’re really nice and strong. You’ll never get super strong smelling candles from essential oils, they just don’t throw as strong as fragrance oils. 🙂

    Hey thanks so much for this informative and super helpful video! I had a question for you, with the ones that you used with the wood wick, did you find it burned well? My father recently passed and I am making candles for my family to burn in his memory. I want them to burn beautifully, and he used to buy woodwick candles so this is exactly what I’m hoping to recreate. Would love to hear how it worked for you (or anyone in the comments!). Thanks so much for helping this come to fruition. Much love.

    I'm just getting into candle making and I have the actual making process down to the T. It's the scents. I started with essential oils aromatherapy (BIG MISTAKE) I brought some strong scents which left my sinuses all messed up making my room feel stuffy as I couldn't breathe. I'm about to switch over to regular fragrance with a more softer smell.

    This video was so great! Thanks for all the tips. I am new to candle making, and I cant seem to get my soy candles to have any hot throw! I have been using C-3 soy wax from the flaming candle company which seems to handle great. I also have been using fragrance oils from new directions aromatics, which say they are good for candle use but don''t say soy specifically. I am unsure if it is the fragrance oil I am using or if I am not using the right ratio, I was wondering what your wax to fragrance ratio is typically, and if you have any tips for me?Thanks so so much in advance!!!

    Hi Jeff, thank you so much for your videos, they are great! I have a question, I am testing my jars to see how much exactly wax & FO to put in each jar. I did all the formula, and I came out for a 6 oz jar that hols 5.8oz of wax with 10%FO=15 gr of FO and 158gr of wax, but the jar doesn't get full. So, I keep trying to add a little bit of wax and now I just did 160 gr of wax but still not full at the line. What should I do? I am using the same jar you have in the video with the wooden wick ( I think it's the same, Candlescience,Medium Straight Jar. Thank you!!

    Hi, I have a quick question! I have watched most of your videos on different wax’s you have used and your reviews. You were right about the 100% soy wax. I have spent a lot of money and can’t see much progress in terms of hot throw. Since I live in England it difficult to get hold of paraffin coconut blend. The only ones that are available are 100% soy, soy coconut blend and soy paraffin blend. Which one can I use for best hot throw?

      They can, you always want to test things like that if you do end up making them. Any loose materials pose an added risk for fire with candles.

    Hi! Can this be done with silicone moulds? I’m planning of selling some on Etsy with fun little shapes. And also, can you put the wax in a plastic measuring container to melt it?
    Thanks!

    Hi, your videos are so informative
    Does it matter if you add your fragrances at a low temperature? Lets say at 130f? Will the fragrance blend in well with the wax?
    Also whenever i have made soy wax candles
    When they burn for 3 hours, the wax has all become liquidy and it doesnt really look nice when its in a clear jar. Is this supposed to happen with soy wax?

    Thank you so much for creating these videos! You've helped me make my own candle line! I'm wanting to sell in the fall, but hesitant because of insurance costs. Curious if you got insurance when you started selling candles?

      Colleen Wells I didn’t get insurance in the beginning and sold to friends, family and coworkers and even some smaller markets.

    thank you so much for sharing, I am a new sub to your channel, you are so clear on your instructions. I have the wooden wicks from Lone star, its definitly hit and miss when it cimes to the burn, love the crackle, but sometimes when just dont want to stay lit, have upsized and even douvble wicked, any suggestions? I also purchased wodden wicks from the wooden wick company and thought of trying the tube wick over the HTP.

      mamber1974 I really want to try the tube wicks.
      I haven’t had any issues with all of the wood wicks I buy from Lone Star. I did get those issues with wood wicks from Aztec. I found cutting them down more they tend to light easier.

    Out of all the parasoy waxes you have used this far, which one seems to give off the best hot throw in your trials? I would like to use straight soy wax but they seem to melt a bit while out at farmers markets in the southern heat. The parasoy was a good compromise for me.

    I just started watching your videos, great videos!! I have watched many videos and they suggest heating your containers before adding your wax. I am not happy with the appearance of the sides of my containers, i do add color. Could you please share your thoughts on this much frustrating subject?? I am using GB 444.

    • @StandleyHandcrafted
      @StandleyHandcrafted  6 лет назад +1

      I am not a fan of heating containers, I just pour at a lower temperature. The main reason people do this is to reduce wet spots (the air bubbles on the sides) in the candles once they're done. You can reduce and sometimes eliminate wet spots by pouring at the lowest possible temperature. They form from the wax shrinking or contracting when cooling. They're tough to get rid of completely and most candle makers just accept them as part of the process.
      For your next batch, I would pour at a lower temperature and see if that helps at all.

    Super helpful! Just ordered materials to start candle making this weekend. Can I use this wax to make pillar candles?

      Bianca Almedina No this does not make good pillar wax. It’s too soft. 🙂

    Hi There thanks for your video, I have been and advance user for 5 years - but see more and more us 464 - I have tested off and on and so far hate how the candle resets after burning, they set like the surface of Mars lumpy, I have been using 10%FO initial pour setting is fine. Any suggestions please.

    • @StandleyHandcrafted
      @StandleyHandcrafted  6 лет назад +1

      Ted Boyce I get the same thing with 464. The candle pours nice and flat and after you burn it it has holes everywhere. I haven’t found a good way to prevent it after burning either. I see it more with heavier oils, love spell, cinnamon, spices.

    Love this video, right to the point! I'm just starting to research candle making, and find your videos very informative. Out of curiosity, do you make Soy Pillar Candles as well?

      Thank you and I’m glad they’re helping.
      I don’t make any pillar style candles at the moment but may have to test some for videos.

      @@StandleyHandcrafted Sounds awesome man! I'm sorry to ask another question, but out of curiosity, how to do you choose a company to purchase fragrance oils from? Is it a lot of trial and error?

      @@rockyacrehomestead8825 No problem at all, ask away. I would always recommend the big candle company's and start testing for the ones you like. Candle Science, Natures Garden, Maple Street, Aztec

    Hi Stanley! If my jar has a diameter of 3.06 which wick would work (I use the same wax but i'm not sure what a size up is called on the website) thanks!
