    If I worked through 25% of the books I bought I'd be 2200

      And if I had read 5% of my chess library I would be 2700! So my friends say. I have more than 1000 chess books....:D

    Van Perlo's book is truly awesome! I've read Dvoretsky's endgame manual first and then I tried Van Perlo's book later on. There is some overlap as we should expect because VP's Endgame Tactic is a massive collection of endgames. However, the puzzles are well organized and are truly stunning. I highly, highly recommend this book to a club player or higher. Its a joy to go through this book whether doing active endgame training or simply enjoying a brilliant endgame after another.

    I'd really like you to review Mastering Endgame Strategy by Hellsten. I really believe it is under-appreciated!
    It combines sections on algorithms (there are 36 examples of basic rook endings, but also a section of 33 variations on creating an outside passed pawn via sacrifice in a section called "Breakthrough".
    My impression is that algorithm books show material balances, whereas MES shows themes like cutting of or intermediate checks or breakthroughs in different contexts. That's something that really valuable to me and I think makes the material accessible at lower ratings/experience levels.

    When he said that kids play the endings too fast, it almost felt like he was referring to me. Like... boss, how did you know?!

    Another very nice discussion about the quality content of chess books and in fact the most difficult part of the game: the finale. Thanks Master Kraai.. waiting for the next one.

    Jesse is right!! Now I remember enjoying this book but I found the Chessable idea of memorising arcane moves pointless, so stopped it.
    Now I'm enjoying the book again disabling reviews.
    With more Chessable experience, I realise some types of books are best read as informational.
    Getting very analytical having done move training on even popular strategy books can lead to disillusionment as you discover missed tactics and flaws in the annotations, not troubling to understand the losing sides play which in fact gave best practical chances if accurate moves had punished the winners innacuracies.

    Nice video. Looks awesome. You mentioned it is usefull for every player but you think there's kind of a minimum rating level difficulty wise?

    That encyclopaedia book seems to be available in Russian only, and it has lots of text?
    What are your thoughts on the endgame encyclopaedias by Chess Informant?

    • @ChessDojo
      @ChessDojo  2 года назад +1

      I've never been able to read the text :-) The grief really is that the book is so hard to get. I like the old encyclopedias less, and they are also hard/expensive to get.
